The session hosted Azzan Qassim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Tourism at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, along with ministry officials, to discuss strategies for enhancing job localisation in the tourism sector and the establishment of integrated tourism cities and service stations for mobile homes.
Al-Harthy welcomed the ministry representatives, highlighting the value of direct engagement with government bodies to exchange ideas and advance the tourism sector—one of Oman's key pillars for economic diversification under Vision 2040.
The Undersecretary gave a detailed presentation on the tourism sector's latest performance indicators, including its contribution to GDP, growth in local and foreign investments, and the expansion of hospitality infrastructure.
He also outlined future development plans, ongoing inter-agency coordination efforts, and challenges facing the sector.

They stressed the need for phased Omanisation targets in the hospitality sector that preserve service quality.
Discussions also touched on establishing integrated service stations for mobile homes to support adventure and desert tourism, ensuring high standards of safety and accessibility. The concept of fully integrated tourism cities—with hotels, entertainment, retail, and services—was also explored as a means of attracting domestic and foreign investment.
The committee praised the ministry's efforts in promoting tourism and local employment. It underscored the importance of cross-sector coordination, leveraging global best practices, and maximising Oman's unique cultural, natural, and heritage assets to strengthen the country's regional and international tourism competitiveness.

Environment Authority implements Metal Compass Project at Samhan Mountain summit in Dhofar
Salalah: The Environment Authority in Dhofar Governorate, in cooperation with the National Survey Authority and the Royal Air Force of Oman, today implemented the Metal Compass Project at the summit of Samhan Mountain. The project aims to document the highest elevation point in Dhofar Governorate and transform it into a prominent environmental landmark on Oman's tourism and environmental map. Implemented within the Samhan Mountain Nature Reserve, the project provides valuable data about the reserve's characteristics to enhance environmental, tourism, and cultural awareness. A concrete monument topped with a metal compass structure marking the four cardinal directions and nearby environmental/tourism landmarks has been installed at "Moden" summit to highlight the reserve's cultural and natural identity. Standing at 1,757.6 meters above sea level, Moden summit represents one of Oman's most distinctive natural locations and the country's second-highest mountain peak. Engineer Zahran Ahmed Al Abdulsalam, Director General of Environment in Dhofar Governorate, stated: "This project establishes Samhan Mountain summit as a promising environmental, tourism and cultural landmark offering unique experiences for both visitors and local communities." The project enhances the reserve's status as a premier ecotourism destination while preserving its rich natural resources and authentic cultural values. Al Abdulsalam added that it invites enthusiasts to explore the reserve's natural, geological and biological aspects, which will expand fundamental knowledge for deeper understanding of its unique ecosystem and guide conservation efforts. Notably, the Samhan Mountain Compass Project incorporates scientific, environmental, tourism and cultural dimensions. It provides crucial data about various aspects of the reserve's ecosystem, encourages preservation of natural resources, and boosts the tourism appeal of Samhan Mountain and its nature reserve.

Dreamliners are safe, says Oman Air CEO after India crash
Muscat: In the wake of a recent Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash in India that killed nearly 300 people and raised fresh questions about aircraft safety, Oman Air CEO Con Korfiatis has firmly reassured the public that the airline's Dreamliner fleet remains fully safe and operational, following a thorough internal review and close engagement with aircraft manufacturer Boeing. 'The Dreamliner is a highly credible aircraft that has been flying safely for many years,' he said. 'We've been in contact with Boeing and, while no definitive findings have been released from the crash investigation, there is no evidence at this time suggesting a fleet-wide concern.' Speaking during a media briefing in Muscat to announce Oman Air's official entry into the oneworld alliance, Korfiatis addressed the growing attention around wide-body aircraft safety, particularly the 787 series used by many global carriers, including Oman Air. 'Safety isn't just a priority — it's the foundation of everything we do,' he said. 'Following the incident in India, we conducted our own internal safety review. That's standard practice for us — and we do it with or without an external event triggering it.' He added that Oman Air's systems are routinely audited, both internally and by national and international regulators, and that the industry responds with exceptional speed and coordination when incidents occur. 'This is a tightly regulated, globally connected industry. When something like this happens, the entire ecosystem — from regulators to airlines to manufacturers — works in real-time to assess and act,' Korfiatis said. 'If there had been any actionable concerns, rest assured, they would have been addressed.' Oman Air's Boeing 787 Dreamliners serve as the cornerstone of its long-haul network. Korfiatis closed with a clear message for passengers: 'Our Dreamliners are safe, and our commitment to operating at the highest safety standards remains absolute.'
