It was confirmed by police that a 15-year-old boy had died at the scene. He was later named as Israel Iyabor.
Last night (July 21) a coach of the junior football team at Hyde United, where Israel had been a player, posted a moving tribute to him on social media.
"R.I.P Israel - totally heartbroken to have lost one of our own in such tragic circumstances," wrote Dan Bollington on Facebook.
"Israel was an influential part of the Hyde Utd family and it was my honour to have coached and got to know him.
"A true heartbeat and popular member of the team, a true inspiration who had his whole life ahead of him.
"Never did anybody see what was to come. Gone but never to be forgotten, RIP Israel.
At the end of the post, he added: "If anybody is ever struggling, please speak out. I will always be here and so will so many others to help you through any difficulties you may have."
Tens of cards and floral tributes have been left at the scene close to where the tragedy took place. Football shirts of the clubs where Israel is understood to have played - Hyde United and Manchester Panthers in Moston - have also been left in tribute.
Hyde United itself later put out a statement in tribute, saying on their website: "The club is devastated to hear the tragic news that Israel Iyabor, a cherished member of our junior football family, has sadly passed away.
"Israel was more than just a talented young footballer — he was an influential, bubbly character whose energy, smile, and love for the game lit up every training session and matchday.
"His coaches describe him as an absolute joy to coach and a privilege to watch on the pitch.
"Hyde United sends its deepest condolences to Israel's family, friends, teammates, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by all at the club."
Posts on social media have been flooded with condolences. Under Dan's post, Kristy Nuttall wrote: "So sad, he was a lovely young man and a very talented footballer who will be missed. Sending love to all his family and friends."
Others in the local football community also paid tribute. Joddie Dearden wrote: "So so sad, from all of us at Dukinfield Town FC we pass on our sincere condolences."
Lesley Hadfield wrote: "From everyone at AFC Stanley, our thoughts go to all his friends, family and everyone who knew him. Heart-breaking."

On This Day: Southend United creates 'Rose West' stand in renaming blunder
On this day in 2022, Southend United found themselves in an unfortunate situation after a deal with one of their sponsors meant their stadium now had a "Gilbert & Rose West Stand". The stand at Roots Hall had been sponsored by local estate agent Gilbert & Rose, but an unfortunate juxtaposition meant its name now inadvertently included that of notorious serial killer Rose West. The news sparked considerable activity on social media, prompting the club to address the unintended reference. At the time, a spokesman for the club revealed they were likely to hold talks with Gilbert & Rose to "come up with different arrangement of words". They added: "They are a fantastic local estate agent, and we look forward to working with them during this partnership, which will include a number of community projects." Rose West was sentenced to life imprisonment in November 1995 for the murders of ten young women and girls. At the time, reactions from fans varied, with Gary Jackets, 52, expressing disbelief at the oversight. He said: "In 45 years of trials and tribulations I thought I had seen and heard of everything from the home of football. "Sadly not, this is the best one yet. Either a bit of PR or a massive error of judgment." [From the Essex Echo of August 3, 2022]

Five young North Texas women killed in fiery crash near Austin during birthday trip: "They were inseparable"
Five women from the Dallas area were killed in a horrific crash last week while traveling to celebrate a birthday. CBS News Texas has learned the victims were all in their early 20s. The group was on a weekend trip to the Central Texas community of Kingsland to celebrate Thalia Salinas' 23rd birthday. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the head-on collision happened in Burnet County on U.S. 281 near Park Road. Investigators say a truck pulling a livestock trailer veered into oncoming traffic, striking several vehicles. The car carrying the five women flipped and caught fire. The victims have been identified as Thalia Salinas, Ruby Cruz, Brianna Valadez, Desiree Cervantez, and Jacqueline Velazco. Thalia's family said the five were like sisters and had been friends since middle school. "They were inseparable," a family member said. "They grew up together and did everything together." In a statement, Thalia's family said: "Words can't describe how devastated we are. We were en route to celebrate Thalia's birthday in Kingsland, Texas, at her favorite place—on the lake—with all her favorite people. Then we got news of the girls passing away in the worst accident we could ever imagine. We will never recover from losing Thalia, Brianna, Ruby, Jackie and Desi." DPS says the crash remains under investigation. No further details about the truck driver or potential charges have been released. GoFundMe accounts have been established for each of the five families.
