Jasprit Bumrah fit, call on his workload soon: India coach on Oval Test availability
As part of a pre-planned workload management strategy, Bumrah was expected to feature in only three of the five Tests. With four matches completed and the fast bowler having bowled only one innings in Manchester, team management may be tempted to include him in the series finale, especially with India needing a win to level the series 2-2.The squad travelled to London from Manchester on Monday evening and resumed training on Tuesday. While Bumrah is medically fit, the decision on whether he will play is expected to come down to a fitness and workload evaluation led by the medical staff and team leadership. Head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that all pacers in the squad are currently fit and "high on confidence" heading into what he called a "new game"."If he feels fully fit and available, it would be a big boost for us," said vice-captain Shubman Gill on BBC's Test Match Special. There is, however, a strong case for caution. With a packed international calendar ahead - including a home series against the West Indies - the team may opt to manage Bumrah's workload carefully to avoid long-term injury risks. The pacer could be rested after the England tour, particularly if he plays in the upcoming Oval Test.Bumrah has missed just one match in the series - a game India won.- EndsTune InYou May Also Like

Don't know why the curator would not allow us to examine the surface: Gill
There have been several intense moments between India and England in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. However, India captain Shubman Gill made it clear that there was no animosity between the players off the field. While Gill got into an argument with Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley at Lord's, Ben Stokes extended a handshake to Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to end the Old Trafford game in a draw when they were inching closer to their centuries. Things spiced up further on Tuesday as India head coach Gautam Gambhir had a heated exchange with The Oval chief curator Lee Fortis. While Gill supported Gambhir, he downplayed the other incidents. Gill's comments came in the wake of Stokes' statement that England had moved on from the handshake episode. 'These are three very separate moments, not correlated at all. I have already explained what happened at Lord's and even regarding the last match. What happened yesterday [Tuesday] was absolutely unnecessary. It's not the first time that we have had a look at the wicket. A coach has every right to be able to go close quarters and have a look at the square. And I didn't think that there was anything wrong with that,' Gill said. 'I actually don't know why the curator would not allow us to go examine the surface. A pitch creator asking to look at the wicket from three metres behind has not happened to us before. 'We have been playing cricket for such a long time, and as long as you are wearing rubber spikes or you are barefoot, you are allowed to look at the wicket from close quarters. And that is the job of the coach and the captain,' Gill added.

Shubman Gill All But Confirms 26-Year-Old's Debut For 5th Test; Gives Huge Hint On Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah
Shubman Gill, Indian cricket team captain, has all but confirmed that 26-year-old Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer from Punjab, will play the fifth Test against England starting in London on Thursday. While Arshdeep Singh has played 63 T20Is (99 wickets) and nine ODIs (14 wickets), he is yet to play in the Test format. Come Thursday, Arshdeep is most likely to have his Test debut. Most probably, Anshul Kamboj will make way for Arshdeep in the XI. Gill also hinted that Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar will be the two front-line spinners, which means Kuldeep Yadav will most likely sit out of the fifth Test also. When asked whether Arshdeep Singh will debut and the fact that England have not gone with their front line spinner Liam Dawson for the fifth Test, the following was Shubman Gill's reply. "Arshdeep Singh has been asked to get ready but we will take a call on the Playing XI after looking at the pitch, by this evening. England haven't gone with a frontline spinner. Jacob Bethell and Joe Root - I think they are going to have their spinning options with them. We have Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, who have such a good job with the ball and the bat. On their front, it's a no-brainer for us," Gill said in the pre-match press conference on Wednesday. When asked why India have not gone with a specialist bowler and a batting line up that goes deep till No. 8, Gill said: "Washington, he is someone who has given us so much control with the bowling. His batting has been a really big plus for us. We are fortunate to have players like him in the team, who can prevent a collapse. With him we have improved that area." On Jasprit Bumrah, Gill did not conform whether the pacer is ruled out or not. "We will take a decision tomorrow, wicket looks very green. So let's see," he said. "2-2 will be very significant for this team. Every match we have played, it was difficult to decide the winner after first four days. Series has been a great learning curve. Somethings you can learn from experience, hopefully finish on a high!" "All the matches in this series have gone till the last session of the fifth day. I don't remember any such series." India trail England 1-2 going into the final match of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy.

Ben Stokes "Obviously Disappointed" After Being Ruled Out Of Oval Test vs India Due To Injury
Ahead of the fifth and final Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy starting from July 31 against India, England skipper Ben Stokes reveals he has a muscle tear, due to which he will be out of the playing 11 for the series decider. Stokes has been ruled out of the England squad for the fifth and final Test against India due to an injury, with Ollie Pope set to lead the side in his absence. Stokes also said he gave himself every chance to play just as a batter in the final Test. In this ongoing series with the bat, Stokes has made 304 runs in seven innings at an average of 43.42, with a century to his name. "I am obviously disappointed, I have got a decent tear in one of the muscles I can't pronounce. We took as long as we could to make the decision around that. Obviously, there is a bit of emotion that goes into this stuff when you find out what you have done. I came down here this morning to give myself every chance to play just as a batter," Ben Stokes told the media as quoted from Sky Sports. Stokes said it was a collective decision-making process after consulting with the medical team and then having a discussion with the coach, Brendon McCullum. "I think you need that time chatting with the medical team, Baz (McCullum), then 20 minutes with me to really be clear around the decision that we made. It is one of those weighing up the risk and reward, and the risk was way too high for the damage," Stokes added. "I wouldn't expect to put any of my players at risk with an injury like this, so I will start rehabbing now and focus on what we have got coming up in the winter. Once the series was done, I was feet up anyway, so it doesn't make too much difference from what I had at the end of the series until the winter anyway," he added. With a ball in hand, Stokes has been merciless, relentless, producing miracles effortlessly. He is the leading wicket-taker in the series with 17 scalps at an average of 25.23, with best figures of 5/72 and has also taken a four-fer. He has also won two Player of the Match awards. The fifth and final Test of the series will take place from Thursday onwards, with the series in favour of England by 2-1 following a hard-fought draw by India at Old Trafford in Manchester. India would not be able to win the series in England, something they last did back in 2007, but they have a chance to bow out with their heads held high and series levelled. England line-up.
