Bala Town FC manager resigns after 22-year spell with club
Caton was described as 'an unbelievable servant' of the club, which he had been associated with since 2003.
He was praised for having 'transformed us from a team languishing at a low level in Tier 3 to the very top of Welsh domestic football'.
A club statement read: 'The club have had a hugely difficult and challenging 12 months, and the culmination of this has resulted in Colin facing an almost impossible task to continue in his position.
'The issues which we, as a small club within the JD Cymru Premier League, (face) have been widely discussed, but there has been no assistance or resolution regarding the concerns raised.'
Last month, Bala Town made the 'difficult' decision to withdraw from the Football Association of Wales' (FAW) National Academi programme.
The club said it is no longer able to sustain a full player development pathway into its first team as a result of new academy licensing changes.
In March 2023, Bala Town was awarded a category C license under the leadership of then-head of academy, Carwyn Edwards.
But the club said this decision led to the 'immediate withdrawal of all financial support from the FAW over the past two years'.
Bala Town said it has since had to self-fund its academy's continued operation.
'The challenges have had a personal effect on many involved in our club, but we remain resolute in our determination to continue our journey at the very highest level of domestic football in Wales.
'He leaves after 880 matches at the helm and an encyclopaedia of achievements: promotion in his first season to the Cymru Alliance, then three NEWFA Challenge Cup and three Cymru Alliance League Cup wins, then promotion at last after five seasons into the Welsh Premier League in 2009, and then 16 years consecutively in the Cymru Premier.
'The club will be forever grateful to Colin for his outstanding service, his complete commitment to the position, his dedication, his enthusiasm, his determination, his professionalism and his outstanding achievements.
'His resignation will not affect the bond of friendship and family which he has with so many within the club.
'His resignation will never lessen the wonderful memories and his resignation will certainly never dim the admiration, the respect and the gratitude which Bala Town holds for Colin.'
Bala Town added that it will now 'take the necessary steps to safeguard the future' of the club.

Ammanford girl competes at British Gymnastics Championships
Anni Maloney, from Ammanford, attended the 2025 Trampoline, Tumbling & DMT Inter Regional Final at the Utility Arena in Birmingham from Friday, July 11 to Sunday, July 13. She started at the age of six years old at Carmarthenshire School of Gymnastics in Cross Hands. 'She competed in the Welsh Championships at Cardiff Metropolitan University and finished in the top two which meant that she was able to compete in the British Championships. It was a lot of fun for her to compete at international level, and she really enjoyed the competition. 'Anni never went into gymnastics for that reason. We took her to her first classes and then we have just taken it from there. She has taken it in her stride but there are lots of opportunities and she can progress.' Craig continued: 'Her brother, who is three years older than her, is chuffed that she represented Wales. He plays football, rugby and cricket and now he has extra motivation to try to compete at an international level as well. 'We are a local family in Ammanford that have played sport our whole life. So, seeing our children do the same has been very pleasing for us and it's something we hope to continue. 'We come from a sporting background, and we are passionate about it. It's important for kids to get into sport. It gives you that sense of discipline and enjoyment. You meet people and you learn skills that you can use for the rest of your life.' Launching this September, the new section will feature a dedicated podcast series and email newsletter, providing an independent, authoritative platform to explore the increasingly vital role of sport within the Welsh economy, a sector that contributes over £1 billion annually to Wales' GDP. While the cultural and social impact of sport is widely recognised, its contribution to economic development, employment, tourism, education, infrastructure investment, and community regeneration remains underrepresented within economic policy. The Welsh independent publisher's editorial expansion into Wales' sports ecosystem will explore the strategic influence of sport on economic outcomes. Jack Conan reveals video from Katie Taylor inspired Lions before second Test win
Taylor, an Olympic gold medal winner and current undisputed world super lightweight champion, sent the good luck message to Andy Farrell's squad in the build-up to Saturday's second Test at Melbourne Cricket Club. The 39-year-old's words on the ability to dig deep turned out to be prophetic as the Lions emerged 29-26 winners after fighting back from an 18-point deficit. It spoke about being prepared to win with skill, but also being ready to win by will,' said Ireland number eight Conan, who like Taylor hails from Bray in County Wicklow.
