LIMA to be further improved to make it a prestigious biennial event
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin expressed satisfaction with this year's edition, particularly as it received praise and positive feedback from international participants.
'They commended the organisation of the 17th edition of LIMA, noting that LIMA 2025 was better coordinated, smoother and more organised. They also appreciated receiving earlier, clearer and more structured information,' he said in his speech at the closing of LIMA'25 here today.
He said LIMA is more than just an exhibition and display of defence assets, it carries a broader, deeper significance and objective.
LIMA is an arena that fosters national pride and serves as a symbol of the country's capability host an international-class exhibition, he added.
Apart from that, he said, LIMA serves as an important platform for the government and the nation to stay abreast of developments in the defence sector, which in turn contributes to enhancing the country's overall defence readiness.
'LIMA is also an opportunity for us to engage with the public. When people attend and witness the exhibitions, it fosters a sense of appreciation, support and understanding that the freedom, peace and security that we enjoy today is the result of the unwavering commitment of our armed forces and security personnel,' he said.
He also said that LIMA provides a valuable avenue to showcase the significance and advancement of defence technology.
'LIMA also acts as an instrument of defence diplomacy, offering us the opportunity to meet with other nations, friendly countries that want to build closer and more meaningful relations with us,' he said
Concluding his speech, Mohamed Khaled expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all parties involved in making this year's LIMA a success, particularly for ensuring that the event ran smoothly and achieved its objectives.

The auditor-general urged the defence ministry to recover all outstanding penalties and discontinue the practice of splitting contracts. PETALING JAYA : The army has been flagged for failing to collect RM162.75 million in penalties from a defence contractor that delivered armoured vehicles late, according to a new government audit. The 2025 Auditor-General's Report Series 2 revealed that the vehicles were to be delivered under five contracts signed between 2011 and 2014, but were delivered behind schedule. In addition, penalties totalling RM1.42 million for delays in repair work and spare part deliveries between 2020 and 2023 were never imposed, according to the report, tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today. The report also found that maintenance and repair contracts worth RM107.54 million had been split into 86 smaller jobs. This allowed the contracts to be awarded through direct negotiations and quotations instead of open tenders. The practice, known as 'pecah kontrak', is often used to bypass stricter procurement regulations and has been flagged by the auditor-general as a serious lapse in oversight. In response, the army said it had taken note of the audit findings and was working to address the issues. 'We are improving coordination between departments to ensure that procedures are properly followed,' it said in the report. The auditor-general also urged the defence ministry to recover all outstanding penalties and discontinue the practice of splitting contracts. A total of five audits involving seven ministries were conducted, covering programmes, activities, and projects worth RM48.873 billion. A total of 22 audit recommendations were submitted to the ministries, departments, and companies involved.

Defence white paper mid-term review to be presented to select committee soon, says Mohamed Khaled
KUALA LUMPUR: The mid-term review of the defence white paper is set to be presented to the Parliament Special Select Committee on Defence, announced Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. The review, previously tabled in the Cabinet on June 25, focuses on enhancing Malaysia's self-defence capabilities. "The ministry firmly believes that self-reliant defence capability is the cornerstone of national sovereignty, security, and freedom, especially in the face of an increasingly challenging geopolitical landscape," Mohamed Khaled stated in Parliament on Monday (July 21). Responding to a query from Kamal Ashaari (PN- Kuala Krau) regarding the government's efforts in developing self-defence capabilities, Mohamed Khaled outlined the ministry's strategy, which includes developing technology, weapon systems, maintenance infrastructure, and strengthening local human capital. These efforts aim to reduce dependence on foreign powers and improve responses to threats. Key initiatives include empowering the Defence Science and Technology Research Institute (Stride) as a centre of excellence in Southeast Asia and restructuring the Malaysian Industry Council for Defence Enforcement & Security (MIDES) into the Defence Industry Strategic Council to enhance governance. The ministry is also developing a comprehensive policy for the defence sector's Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) and establishing a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) to strengthen industrial development linkages within the local defence ecosystem. To further boost self-reliance and innovation in defence technology, the ministry is finalising the National Defence Industry Policy, set to be presented to the Cabinet in August. Mohamed Khaled added that the government is considering research and development collaborations with partner countries, such as Turkiye, in the defence sector.
