PM's Pariksha Pe Charcha enters Guinness World Record for most registrations in a month

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Pariksha Pe Charcha initiative has entered the Guinness World Record for "most people registered on a citizen engagement platform in one month", the Ministry of Education (MoE) announced on Monday. According to officials, 3.53 crore valid registrations were received during the eighth edition of the programme. Prime Minister Modi directly interacts with students, teachers, and parents as part of the Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC) initiative, which aims to transform the examination season "into a festival of positivity, preparation, and purposeful learning", making exams a time for encouragement rather than stress. "Pariksha Pe Charcha has been redefined as a national approach to examinations by turning stress into a festival of learning. The eighth edition of PPC recorded a total of over 21 crore viewership across all media platforms in 2025," Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said at an event where the Guinness World Record certificate was formally presented. "The overwhelming participation in PPC 2025 is seen as a reflection of the country's collective commitment to holistic and inclusive education and alignment with the vision of a Viksit Bharat," he said. While addressing the occasion, Ashwini Vaishnaw called Pariksha Pe Charcha a unique initiative that brings together students, parents, and teachers to promote well-being and stress-free learning. PPC is an annual event in which Modi interacts with students appearing for board examinations. During the event, he also answers students' queries related to exam stress and other issues. The first edition of the prime minister's interactive programme with school and college students was held at the Talkatora Stadium in February 2018. Its seventh edition was held in a town hall format at the Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, engaging participants from across the country and overseas.

Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a letter to the CM on Monday, Pradhan also called for the implementation of guidelines under the Prime Minister Poshan Abhiyaan scheme. The move follows a recent meeting in Delhi where leaders of the Telangana midday meal cooks' association met with Pradhan and Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay. During the meeting, the association submitted a petition seeking an increase in wages and other benefits for the cooks. When the issue of pending central funds was raised, Pradhan clarified that all dues had already been cleared by the Centre. He assured the delegation that he would take up the matter with the state govt to ensure approval of any pending bills. The association also demanded that the monthly honorarium for midday meal cooks be increased to ₹17,000, and that they be brought under social security coverage, including ESI and PF benefits under labour laws. Pradhan said these requests would be taken into consideration and, as a first step, wrote to the CM stressing the importance of improving wages and welfare for the cooks.

Congress to observe Aug 5 as 'black day', demand J-K statehood restoration

The Congress will observe August 5 as a "black day" against the downgrading of Jammu and Kashmir from a state to a Union territory six years ago and will sit on a dharna to press for the restoration of statehood. On August 5, 2019, the Centre scrapped J&K's special status and bifurcated the state into two Union territories. The Congress is backed by the other members of the All Parties United Morcha, which was created with the aim of restoring statehood, for the protest on Wednesday. "The Congress party shall observe August 5 as a black day against the downgrading of the historical J&K state into a Union territory. All constituent members are fully supporting it together," chief spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, Ravinder Sharma, told reporters here. He said that a peaceful sit-in will be organised by the Congress supported by All Parties United Morcha near the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh at Tawi bridge in Jammu to press for the early restoration of full statehood to J-K. Sharma appealed to all people and organisations of Jammu to support the dharna in a bid to force the BJP-led central government to grant statehood to J-K. "The Government of India should bring a bill in this session of Parliament, pass the bill, and restore statehood. This is the demand of all of us," he said. Blaming New Delhi for running the region with a "remote control", he said that the denial of statehood was weakening the democratic setup, and people are witnessing the "treatment" by the elected chief minister and the lieutenant governor's administration. The government had promised the people of Jammu and Kashmir the restoration of statehood, and they should fulfil it, the Congress leader said. The Supreme Court has also called for the restoration of statehood, he said, adding that the BJP and its government in New Delhi are "deceiving" people here. All district units of the Congress will also organise similar dharnas at their respective district headquarters and observe "black day" on Wednesday as part of "Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq", he said.
