Criminal charges won't be filed after "Senior Assassin" game left teen on life support, police say
The North Texas teen who was critically injured while playing a viral game has died, according to a family member.
Isaac Leal, 17, had been on life support at an Arlington hospital for over a month and a half after falling off the back of a vehicle while playing "Senior Assassin."
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's report states he died from "blunt force injury" to his head on Monday morning.
The Arlington Police Department said Leal was riding on the back of a Jeep Wrangler through a residential neighborhood during the game on April 21. Shortly after the Jeep made a turn, Leal fell off the vehicle and was injured.
The driver of the Jeep reportedly called 911, and when EMS arrived, Leal was unconscious. The teen was transported to the hospital, where he was placed on life support.
A video of the incident shows the teen and the students showing the before and after of the fall.
APD said after an investigation, there was no evidence to support claims that the driver of the Jeep was driving recklessly at the time or intentionally was trying to hurt Leal. No charges will be filed in the case.
Leal's family was hopeful for a recovery
In May 2025, CBS News Texas spoke with Lael's family as he remained on life support. They said he showed signs of responsiveness.
"Our kid is a fighter," his father, Jose Leal, said.
He shared that his son moved his legs on command.
"We see certain characteristics, like a smile or we see tears coming down his eyes," he said. "You know, those are the things that we're looking at. That gives us hope."
Baseball team honors Leal's memory
Leal was a pitcher for the 2025 South Grand Prairie Baseball team, which shared a photo of Leal along with a message on social media Monday. "We are heartbroken," the post said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and teammates. #7Strong | "

Source: Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz placed on leave due to MLB betting investigation
CHICAGO — Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz has been placed on 'non-disciplinary paid leave' through the end of the All-Star break as a result of an MLB investigation, with multiple sources telling The Athletic that the probe is related to gambling. The league announced that Ortiz would be placed on leave Thursday morning; MLB said in a statement it would not comment further until the conclusion of the investigation. Advertisement Ortiz had been scheduled to start for the Guardians on Thursday night against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Joey Cantillo was promoted from Triple-A Columbus to start instead. The Guardians released the following statement: 'The Guardians have been notified by Major League Baseball that Luis Ortiz has been placed on leave per an agreement with the Players Association due to an ongoing league investigation. The Guardians are not permitted to comment further at this time, and will respect the league's confidential investigative process.' In 2024, MLB banned San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano for life for betting on his own team. The league also suspended four other players for a year for betting on baseball. MLB umpire Pat Hoberg was also fired earlier this year after it was learned that he shared sports betting accounts with a friend who bet on baseball games. Ortiz, acquired in a trade with the Pirates in November, owns a 4.36 ERA in 16 starts this year. The 26-year-old played for Pittsburgh from 2022-24.

15-year-old bicyclist killed after being rear-ended in hit-and-run crash in Crystal Lake, Illinois
A 15-year-old bicyclist was killed after being hit by a vehicle Wednesday night in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office said shortly after 9:30 p.m., members from the office and the Crystal Lake Fire Protection District responded to the crash on Terra Cotta Road near the intersection of Deering Oaks Lane. Initial reports said two 15-year-old bicyclists were heading southbound on Terra Cotta Road when an unknown vehicle rear-ended one of them. The victim was taken to Northwestern Medicine Hospital McHenry, where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff's office said the driver did not stop to aid the victim and left the scene. The teen also had a red activated taillight. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner's Office are continuing to investigate the crash.
