Lions player ratings v Australia: Hugo Keenan and Tom Curry the best from a disappointing third Test
The nightmare scenario for a full-back was the Sydney weather forecast. Keenan, the hero of the hour last week, had to do all the unglamorous stuff in trying to keep hold of a bar of soap. Did well enough and kept at it. 6
Tommy Freeman
Unfulfilled. It has not been the most accomplished tour for all sorts of reasons for the England wing who has come nowhere near his Six Nations form. Slightly shaky in defence and ended unceremoniously with a half-time HIA. 4
Huw Jones
Rejigged to the wing but had been unable to get into the game prior to the shuffle of resources. It was not a night for shovelling the ball down the line although the Wallabies did seem to manage it well enough. Made a right hash of one lovely chance created by Finn Russell. 4.5

Bundee Aki
Didn't miss a beat to the PA karaoke at the stadium in the lightning break but was off-key out where it mattered. It ought to have been the burly centre's sort of occasion but he was unable to make an impression and his hands let him down with several fumbles. 4

Blair Kinghorn
Not a night for taking a last shot at glory. Kinghorn earned his starting place as one of two changes but the Scot was living off scraps for the entire evening. Did what he could in a losing cause. 5.5
Finn Russell
On the back foot. For the first time in a long time, Russell looked shaky and more flustered than usual. The Scotland fly-half was not able to find territory in the conditions but couldn't find anything in his box of tricks. No rabbit, no magic. 5.5
Jamison Gibson-Park
Had to play second fiddle to his chirpy opposite number, Nic White. Gibson-Park didn't manage to get his forwards thumping forward in the same manner. Kept his composure and energy levels high with one late intervention in the tackle. 5.5
Andrew Porter
Under the cosh and was unable to guarantee a stable foundation for the scrummage as the Wallabies heavyweights got stuck into the Lions. Gave way to Genge early in the second-half to bring an end to what had been a decent tour for him. 5

As it happened: Australia salvage some pride against the Lions in heavily delayed third Test
Dan Sheehan
A lucky boy and off the mark with his line-out throwing, Sheehan was fortunate to escape a card for his clear-out on Wallaby fly-half Tom Lynagh who was forced off just before half-time. Could have been red. Sheehan then had to step up to lead the side. His darts were way below his normal level with five losses. 4
Tadhg Furlong
The History Man. Furlong may have notched up a significant landmark with his ninth successive start for the Lions but the Leinster tighthead knew that stats mean little without substance on the field and the Lions scrum had a difficult night of it. 5
Maro Itoje (capt)
Brought down to earth. Poor old Maro, feted the length and breadth of these isles but forced out of the series after 28 minutes with an HIA. It was an unsatisfactory feeling. The highs and lows of sport. 4.5
James Ryan
Another in the wars. Ryan felled when making contact with a Wallaby knee, a typical action of his in a fierce, close-quarters game. Ryan had been in the thick of it as he tried to quell the considerable force-field that is Will Skelton. 5.5

Tadhg Beirne
Had to graft and graft to make an impact. The Lions were second best at the breakdown in the first half, ceding six turnovers to two as the Wallabies brought their most abrasive game to fever pitch. 5.5
Tom Curry
Never flagged, chasing hard and scragging in his usual manner but the Lions had a torrid time of it in the battering stakes at the breakdown. Even the seemingly indomitable Curry had eventually to wave the white flag as he was led from the field looking entirely spent. 6
Jack Conan
As honest as ever but the Lions back-row was nearly always on the back foot and Conan could do little except to scrap away as the green and gold forwards thundered forward. 5.5
Replacements
Just couldn't make the desired impact. The bench was right in the thick of it as three players were off by early in the second-half with Ollie Chessum, Owen Farrell and Jac Morgan all called to arms.
Ellis Genge was also on the field within minutes of the re-start and immediately made an impact as the Lions won a penalty at the scrum. Morgan, too, was conspicuous, helping to win a turnover after a hefty upfield clatter from Wallaby no.8, Harry Wilson, and then getting on the scoresheet once again.
We might have expected that Owen Farrell's kicking would have been influential but it never came to that. Ronan Kelleher had no chance to affect the skewed lineout as he was soon in the sin-bin.
Ben Earl scampered well but the Lions were on the back foot and simply couldn't get into it. 5.

Lions star Bundee Aki reveals he missed arrival of his daughter during Australia tour after wife gave birth in a CAR
Aki admitted he played poorly in the defeat to Australia YOU'RE KIDDING Lions star Bundee Aki reveals he missed arrival of his daughter during Australia tour after wife gave birth in a CAR BUNDEE AKI has revealed he became a dad again during the Lions' series win in Australia — with his wife giving birth in a car. The Irish centre held his hands up on his shocker in Sydney on Saturday in a 22-12 defeat, which saw the tourists miss the chance of a Wallaby whitewash. 3 Bundee Aki's wife has given birth to a daughter Credit: Instagram 3 Aki now has five children Credit: Instagram After the Lions failed to clinch a series clean sweep, Aki then announced he had become a father for the fifth time two weeks ago. The 35-year-old has yet to meet new daughter Aine, who was born in the build-up to the opening Test win in Brisbane. Wife Kayla was in New Zealand with family when she got in touch to say she was ready to give birth before he helped the Lions to a 27-19 triumph. Aki recalled: 'Credit to my wife. She's a powerful woman. I was in the hotel in Brisbane and I knew we were overdue. 'Ten minutes later, she video calls me and I was like, 'S**t, what's going on?' I saw a baby on the video call, so she had it in the car. 'They're both healthy. But their old man admitted he put in nothing close to an A-star performance in Sydney as the Lions were mauled in a monsoon. The game was suspended after half-time for 38 minutes due to lightning, with the Aussies 8-0 up through Dylan Pietsch's try and a penalty. Finn Russell was spotted in the dressing room flicking through his phone and Aki had his feet up on a bean bag before play resumed. But the Wallabies struck twice after the delay to get the victory. Aki had his worst game in an international shirt but fronted up. He said: 'I wasn't great. It was a poor game but you have those days and you have to live with it. 'We won the series and that's all we came for. 'Now, I want to enjoy my break. I haven't seen my family for eight weeks. I have a newborn child I haven't met yet.' Australia got it over the line thanks to a turbo-charged display from lock Will Skelton, who was on the wind-up all match, and second-half tries from Max Jorgensen and Tate McDermott. Jac Morgan and Will Stuart crossed to give the Lions some consolation — but Skelton had shown the Aussies the way. Wallabies scrum-half Nic White said: 'For once, someone stood up to them.'

Hopefully I will be back – Lewis Hamilton dejected after Hungaroring nightmare
A dejected Lewis Hamilton said he will 'hopefully' return for Formula One's next race – after he cryptically claimed 'there is a lot going on in the background that is not great' following the Hungarian Grand Prix. A day after Hamilton described himself as 'absolutely useless', and called on his own Ferrari team to replace him, the seven-time world champion started 12th and finished in the same position at the Hungaroring, a lap behind winner Lando Norris. Charles Leclerc was fourth in the other Ferrari. Fronting up to TV cameras after the conclusion of the 14th race of his Ferrari career which has so far failed to live up to its pre-season hype, Hamilton was asked to reflect on his post-qualifying comments. Lewis Hamilton started 12th and finished 12th at Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix (Bradley Collyer/PA) 'When you have a feeling, you have a feeling,' he told Sky Sports. 'There is a lot going on in the background that is not great.' Asked if he had fallen out of love with racing, Hamilton replied: 'No, I still love the team.' Hamilton then headed for his session with the print media. Quizzed on how he felt a day on from being eliminated in Q2 – a performance made all the more harrowing after Leclerc took pole position, he replied: 'Same.' Put to him that his remarks suggesting that Ferrari 'need a new driver' would worry his fans, the British driver again replied: 'Same.' Asked if he had anything else to say other than 'the same', Hamilton said: 'I have got nothing else to say.' Lewis Hamilton doubles down on 'change the driver' Ferrari comment 😔 — Sky Sports F1 (@SkySportsF1) August 3, 2025 The sport now breaks for three weeks for its mid-season shutdown. The next race takes place in the Netherlands on August 31. 'Very much so,' said Hamilton, who was then asked if he was looking forward to the summer break. Quizzed as to whether he will definitely be driving at the next round in Zandvoort, Hamilton replied: 'I look forward to coming back… Hopefully I will be back, yeah.' Hamilton has won a record eight times at the Hungaroring but this has been an alarming weekend for the 40-year-old. Hamilton stood largely on his own for the drivers' parade, which takes place before every race, and was later accompanied by Italian rookie Kimi Antonelli. By the end of the first lap, he dropped behind Carlos Sainz and Antonelli and was 14th. At the end of the eighth lap, he was 20 seconds behind Leclerc, then leading, in the other Ferrari, and at the end of lap 14 he trailed his team-mate by half a minute. When he left the pits on lap 43 for his sole change of tyres, Hamilton was a lap down on the leaders. Hamilton fought back past Alpine's Pierre Gasly and then Sainz to cross the line in 12th. However, he is 42 points behind Leclerc, has been out-qualified by his team-mate at 10 of the 14 rounds, beaten him in only two races, at Imola and Silverstone, and is still awaiting his first podium in Ferrari colours. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff threw his support behind Lewis Hamilton (Bradley Collyer/PA) But Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, who oversaw six of Hamilton's record-equalling seven titles, said: 'Lewis is wearing his heart on his sleeve. 'It was very raw what he said. He was hard on himself. We have seen it before when he felt he had not met his own expectations. He's been that emotionally transparent since he was a young adult. 'But he is the GOAT. He will always be the GOAT. And nobody is going to take it away for any single weekends or a race season that hasn't gone to plan. That is something he always needs to remember – that he is the greatest of all time.' Hamilton's Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur added: 'I don't need to motivate him (Hamilton). He is frustrated but not demotivated, that is a different story. I can perfectly understand the situation.'

Irish rugby star's new child was born in a car moments before big match
Bundee Aki has revealed that his newest member of the family was born in a car two weeks ago - just moments before the rugby star lined out for the British and Irish Lions. The Ireland centre played for the Lions in Saturday's third Test against Australia, but he is now rushing to New Zealand to meet his new daughter, Aine, for the first time. Aki, who is now the father of five children with his wife Kayla, said: "If you only knew the story of what happened, it's a funny story in itself. "I was in the hotel. I knew we were overdue. "The missus calls me and she's like, 'Water hasn't broke but I'm going to the hospital, I'm feeling contractions.' "She goes to the hospital, we're getting ready for the team meeting pre-match, and then she calls me and says she's on the way to the hospital, so I said, 'Fine, be safe.' "Five minutes later, she sends a photo, her water broke. I was like, 'Cool, OK, are you almost there?' "This is like 30 or 40 minutes away from the hospital, so I said, 'You'll be alright, Mum is there.' "Ten minutes later, she video calls me and I was like, 'Shit, what's going on?'. "I saw a baby on the video call, so she had it in the car on the way to the hospital." After getting the shock news, Aki had to compose himself for the Lions' opening Test against Australia in Brisbane. The 35-year-old came on in the second half of the match as the Lions won 27-19 to cap off a wild day for the Connacht centre and his family. "I knew it was good Juju. So I knew we were going to have a good day. "All my kids start with A. So my wife loved the name Aine. That's five As in the family. Armani, Adrianna, Andronicus, Ailbhe, Aine." New Zealand born Aki moved to Galway in 2014 and has since earned 65 caps for Ireland, as well as being involved on the last two Lions tours. But, while some of his Lions teammates were prolonging their stay in Australia to wind down, he flew straight to New Zealand to see his wife and newborn child. He added: "They're both strong and healthy, so happy days. "Credit to my wife. She's a powerful woman, a strong woman."
