Browns QB Kenny Pickett predicted to enter training camp as QB1

Yahoo5 hours ago
The Cleveland Browns' quarterback battle is about to begin with the start of 2025 training camp on July 23rd. Rookies and veterans have officially reported to Berea, and to kick things off, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com predicts that Kenny Pickett will have the upper hand early in camp.
'My guess is that Kenny Pickett still has a slight edge in terms of being No. 1 on the depth chart heading into training camp, but that could quickly change,' Mary Kay said in the latest edition of 'Hey Mary Kay!'
She also broke down the unique circumstances surrounding the Browns' quarterback situation. With four quarterbacks competing for playing time this season, it's shaping up to be a different kind of training camp for the team:
'It might not be easy to determine where the QBs fall on the imaginary depth chart in the first two weeks of camp, because the Browns will continue two-spotting—or splitting—the four QBs on two different fields to maximize their reps,'
Many fans will argue and speculate about Joe Flacco not getting starting quarterback reps in camp, but his experience in the NFL and with the team speaks louder than practice reps. Head coach Kevin Stefanski and the organization know what Flacco can provide if they choose to start him at the beginning of the regular season.
There's no question that the quarterback room will be a major storyline throughout training camp. While it's unlikely that rookies Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel will start in Week 1, they'll still have plenty of opportunities behind their veteran competition on the roster.

Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen pulls out of the US Open after elbow surgery

NEW YORK (AP) — Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen withdrew from the U.S. Open on Monday, two days after announcing she had arthroscopic surgery on her right elbow because of 'persistent pain.' The sixth-ranked Zheng was coming off a first-round loss at Wimbledon last month. 'Over the past months, I've been dealing with persistent pain in my right elbow during training and matches,' the right-handed 22-year-old from China said on social media Saturday. 'Despite trying various treatments to manage it, the discomfort never fully went away.' Zheng said she anticipated her recovery would take months, so the exit from the year's last Grand Slam tournament was not a surprise. The U.S. Open begins Aug. 24. She was replaced in the field by France's Leolia Jeanjean. ___ AP tennis:

'All in all I've truly been on bed rest for four weeks… Towards the end of two weeks of being really sick, I got a subchorionic hematoma, which is basically a blood clot in my uterus and I was bleeding everywhere. 'So at this point, I was so exhausted, like two weeks of just not being able to move and then all of a sudden just purging. It was a lot. It was heavy… I went to the doctor and it was really exciting to see that there was still a heartbeat.' 3 Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey announced the arrival of their first child with a joint Instagram post on July 13, 2025 including a carousel of black and white photos showing the family of three in the hospital. Browns CB Denzel Ward earns acclaim from NFL personnel

As long-time Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward prepares to start his eighth NFL season, he still finds himself viewed as one of the NFL's very best. On Thursday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrapped up his annual positional top ten lists, compiled from polling the opinions of the league's coaches, executives, and scouts, and the final installment ranking the NFL's cornerbacks featured a pleasant surprise with Ward landing at No. 3. The high ranking is a strong endorsement for Ward, as he ranked only behind reigning Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II and Houston Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., who was given a record-setting extension in March. Even as the Browns' defense took a step back last season from the phenomenal highs the unit displayed in 2023, Ward maintained his usual high level of play and earned the fourth Pro Bowl selection of his career. Here is what one NFL defensive coach had to say about Ward: "Really good feet, smooth, comfortable with the ball in the air… he's been good for a long time. Has God-given talent that you can't really match." 2025 marks the sixth straight year that Ward has ranked within the top ten of Fowler's survey, a testament to how consistent the former fourth-overall pick has been for the Browns defense.
