Four men deny murder of grandmother
Jacqueline Rutter, 53, was shot in the chest in in Moreton, Wirral Merseyside, at about 1am on October 30 2022.
Simon Allen, 54, of no fixed address, James Byrne, 23, of no fixed address, Barrie Glynn, 46, of Westway in Heswall, and David Harrison, 58, of Old Meadow Road in Pensby, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday.
All four, appearing over videolink from three different prisons, pleaded not guilty to murder.
The defendants also denied possession of a nine millimetre pistol and ammunition with intent to endanger life and the arson of a stolen Vauxhall Insignia.
Anna McGinn, 26, of Frankby, Wirral, appeared in the dock and pleaded not guilty to two counts of assisting an offender.
According to the charges, she is alleged to have driven Byrne and a second man, Preston Connolly, from Heswall to their home addresses on October 30 2022.
Judge David Aubrey KC adjourned the case until a pre-trial hearing on September 8.
A trial will take place on October 6, the court heard.
Ms Rutter was one of four female victims of gun crime in Merseyside in 2022, with nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel, Ashley Dale, 28, and Elle Edwards, 26, who was shot outside a pub in Wirral on Christmas Eve.

Combs' lawyers had asked U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian on July 29 to release Combs on a $50 million bond, arguing conditions at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn were dangerous and that defendants convicted in the past of prostitution-related charges that were similar to Combs' were usually released before their sentencing. Prosecutors with the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's office countered in an August 1 court filing that staffing levels, medical services, and facility conditions at the MDC had improved since Combs was arrested in September 2024. They also said evidence of Combs' physical violence presented at trial showed he was a danger to the community. In a written ruling on Monday, Subramanian said Combs' arguments "might have traction in a case that didn't involve evidence of violence, coercion or subjugation in connection with the acts of prostitution at issue, but the record here contains evidence of all three." Combs' lawyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

REPAIR Shop star Jay Blades has been charged with two counts of rape. Police confirmed the allegations against the 55-year-old dad of three from Shropshire. 4 4 Blades fronted the hit BBC show for seven years before stepping back last year. King Charles appeared alongside him on a special episode in 2022. West Mercia Police confirmed charges against the dad of three, with a magistrates' court date set for next Wednesday. A spokesperson said: 'Jason Blades, 55, of Claverley in Shropshire, has been charged with two counts of rape. "He is due to appear at Telford magistrates' court on 13 August 2025.' Blades was awarded an MBE in 2022 for services to craft while King Charles appeared on the Repair Shop the same year. The TV star is currently awaiting trial on a separate charge of controlling and coercive behaviour against estranged wife Lisa-Marie Zbozen, which he has denied.
