Should Rams make a play for Micah Parsons after Cowboys star requests a trade?
Micah Parsons made headlines on Friday when he officially requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys due to their ongoing contract dispute. The two sides are reportedly far apart on a potential deal and Parsons made it clear he no longer wants to play for the team that drafted him.
Is this a golden opportunity for the Los Angeles Rams to swoop in with one of their patented big splashes?
It's the type of move Les Snead has never been afraid to make. The Rams traded for Von Miller during the 2021 season and he springboarded them to a Super Bowl ring. They also traded for Jalen Ramsey in 2019, signed Odell Beckham Jr. in 2021 and acquired Brandin Cooks in 2018.
Parsons is in a class of his own as a trade chip, being one of the best defenders anywhere in the league. He's a legitimate game-changer, someone offenses have to account for on every snap – just as they did with Aaron Donald each week.
Not to mention, he's only 26 years old and entering the prime of his career. Every season, he's one of the favorites to win Defensive Player of the Year and seems destined to win it at some point in the near future.
For a team like the Rams that already has the pieces to win a Super Bowl, Parsons would put them over the top. It would just take a lot to pry him from the Cowboys, who are reportedly not interested in trading him (obviously).
The starting point in trade negotiations would be at least a first- and second-round pick. After that, the Rams could include a player or two, or potentially another first-rounder. That's a high price to pay for a player in the final year of his contract, but that's what it takes to acquire proven pass rushers in today's NFL – especially ones as young as Parsons.
The biggest hurdle would be a contract extension. Parsons is on the books for $24 million this year alone and he likely wants to be the highest-paid pass rusher in the league on his next deal. T.J. Watt holds that crown at $41 million per year, a number Parsons will target in negotiations.
The problem for the Rams is they have core players to pay in the coming years. Kyren Williams, Cobie Durant and Quentin Lake will be free agents next offseason. Puka Nacua, Steve Avila, Kobie Turner and Byron Young are all eligible for extensions after this season and could be seeking new deals, too. The next year, it could be Jared Verse and Braden Fiske's turn.
As it stands right now, the Rams probably won't be able to pay all of those players. Add Parsons to the mix and it becomes nearly impossible. One way they could make it work is by potentially dealing one or two of those players to lighten the load salary cap-wise, but the Rams may not want to part with their young talent.
It's a long shot for the Rams to acquire Parsons but with Snead, nothing can be ruled out.

Former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Eric Allen was officially enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday afternoon, alongside Jared Allen, Sterling Sharpe and Antonio Gates. His 34 interceptions with the Eagles are tied for the most in franchise history. Allen also holds the Eagles' franchise record for the most pick-sixes with 5. Allen's career was also bookended with a couple of iconic NFL games, including the 1988 NFC divisional playoff game between the Eagles and Bears, also known as The Fog Bowl. As well as the Tuck Rule Game, a controversial 2001 playoff matchup between the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots. Allen was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 2011. After 19 years of eligibility, Allen was named a Hall of Fame finalist for the first time in 2024, though he wasn't selected that year. He was a semifinalist five times before being elected to the Hall of Fame days before the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately I no longer want to be here. "I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me." Parsons then provided some insight on his negotiations with the Cowboys. "Up until today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract. Not one demand has been made by my agent about money years or anything else. Still I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally." Unsurprisingly, the NFL world had a lot to say about the latest twist in this saga between Parsons and the Cowboys. Most fans are blaming Jerry Jones for this trade request. "Jerry Jones really messed around and pushed Micah Parsons out of Dallas — Their undisputed best player!!! Can't make this up," one fan said. "No Cowboys fan should be upset with Micah on this decision. We don't blame him one bit. MVP leader Napheesa Collier injures ankle in Lynx's 53-point win over Aces
The Minnesota Lynx's dominance was on display Saturday with a 111-58 victory over the Las Vegas Aces, but the historic win was mitigated by forward Napheesa Collier leaving the game with a right ankle injury. Collier twisted her ankle after inadvertently colliding with teammate Alanna Smith under the basket on a rebound attempt with 10.8 seconds remaining in the third quarter and the Lynx up by 43 points. An emotional Collier remained down on the floor at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas and was surrounded by players from both teams before unsuccessfully attempting to stand on her own. Collier was able to walk off the court with assistance and went to the locker room. She was ruled out the remainder of the game with a right ankle injury, finishing with 18 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals in the largest road win in WNBA history. Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve said it's "just way too early" to provide an injury update for Collier following the win, but noted that the five-time All-Star will undergo imaging and evaluations per team protocol. Reeve added, "We'll worry until we know more." Collier scored 14 of her 18 points in the third quarter before she got injured. The Lynx had amassed such a large lead that Aces coach Becky Hammon pulled her starters with 5:22 seconds remaining in the third as the Aces trailed by 33 points. When asked if Lynx starter should have been pulled earlier in the game, Reeve said, "No." "It's the third quarter of a game on someone else's floor. I don't think the game is over. I don't think like that. (Collier) had a sub there and she wasn't going to play the fourth quarter. Sometimes these things happen," Reeve said postgame. "I get it. People are going to rail on me and that's part of sitting in the seat that I'm sitting in. We did what we think was right. Sometimes these things happen and it's unfortunate and hopefully she will be OK." Minnesota win by 53 points is the second biggest blowout in WNBA history, second only to the Lynx's 59-point victory over the Indiana Fever on Aug. 18, 2017. Kayla McBride finished with a team-high 24 points after starting 8-of-8 from 3-point range. Minnesota finished with a franchise-high 17 3-pointers in the win, with two coming from Collier. "You hate to see anyone go down, especially your MVP," McBride said. "When we see Phee go down, we see Phee the person before the basketball player. Just wishing the best for her. Speedy recovery. We just want her to be healthy. She's had such an amazing season and she's just so impactful for us on both ends of the floor." McBride said Collier was "in good spirits" in the locker room. Collier is the MVP frontrunner. She's averaging a career-high and league-leading 23.8 points through 25 games. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year also ranks among the top five in the league in steals (1.8 per game) and blocks (1.7 per game).
