EC rebuts Rahul Gandhis Lok Sabha poll rigged claim
New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) The Election Commission on Saturday rejected claims of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that the 2024 Lok polls were rigged, saying it appears that these 'unfounded allegations" are intended to exert undue pressure on the election machinery and even threaten poll officials.
Addressing a Congress event here, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha cited data collected by the Congress from an assembly constituency in Karnataka where the party checked the photographs and names of electors physically and reportedly found out that 1.5 lakh votes were 'fake" out of a total of 6.5 lakh voters.
'The election system in India is dead," he said, adding that the Lok Sabha elections were rigged.
In a fact-check post on X, the poll authority said Gandhi's statements are 'misleading and baseless." It said during the preparation of the electoral roll for LS-2024, both the Draft and Final Electoral lists were shared with all political parties, including the Congress, and were appealable under provisions of the Representation of the People Act.
'Hardly any appeals were filed across all 36 states and Union territories by the Indian National Congress," it said.
The poll body pointed out that in the 2024 parliamentary polls, only eight election petitions were filed by the losing Congress candidates under Section 80 of the RP Act 1951.
'Shri Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly made unsubstantiated and misleading allegations, including baseless claims such as 'vote chori', and has threatened lakhs and lakhs of hardworking election officials across the country.
'It appears that these unfounded allegations are intended to discredit their impartial and transparent hard work, attempt to exert undue pressure on the election machinery, and even threaten them without even filing an appeal against the electoral roll or even an election petition against the conduct of elections as per law," it said.
The EC said it had extended an invitation to Gandhi for an interaction on June 12, 2025, 'there has been no response from him so far." PTI NAB RT RT

Our women, especially those working with SHGs, will defeat Priyanka Gandhi in every sphere. She won't even be in the contest," Sarma said. The CM added that Assamese women were far more advanced and were experts in preparing traditional delicacies like laroo and pitha, and transplanting paddy, besides taking care of the education of their children. Last time, she went to Dhubri and promised people there that she will come again, if Congress wins (in the Lok Sabha election)," Gogoi added. While Congress managed to win three out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, Congress's Rakibul Hussain won in Dhubri by a huge margin of over 10 lakh votes.

‘Punjab has sent no proposal for solar parks under central scheme in last 5 yrs'
Bathinda: Even as 18 solar parks were developed in several states under the central scheme of 'development of solar parks and ultra-mega solar power projects', the Punjab govt did not send any proposal for the development of a solar park under the scheme in the last five years. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This was revealed by Union minister of state for new and renewable energy and power, Shripad Yesso Naik, in a written reply in Lok Sabha on Wednesday in response to a question by Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. The development of solar parks and ultra-mega solar power projects aims to accelerate large-scale solar power generation by facilitating the development of solar parks and ultra-mega solar power projects. These parks provide a platform for developers to set up solar projects with shared infrastructure, including land, transmission lines, and other necessary facilities, reducing costs and speeding up project completion. The country in the past increased maximum renewable energy under solar energy to achieve its target of 450 GW renewable energy by 2030 as per its nationally determined contributions (NDC) under the Paris Agreement. After the scheme was launched in Dec 2014 to accelerate large-scale solar power generation and support the country's renewable energy goals, 50 solar parks with a total capacity of 37,990 MW were sanctioned across 12 states, while 18 with 10,856 MW were developed. As per the minister, 18 projects were developed in nine states with a capacity of 10,856 MW, with a maximum of four projects each in MP and Rajasthan. Under the project, central financial assistance (CFA) of Rs 3,661.93 crore was released to various states in the last five years under the 'development of solar parks and ultra-mega solar power projects', with a maximum of Rs 1,116.4 crore to Gujarat, even as only one solar park with 700 MW was developed there. Congress to stage protest outside Assembly against slum demolitions
The Congress's Delhi unit on Sunday said it will stage a protest outside the Assembly on the first day of the Monsoon Session on Monday, primarily against the demolition drives carried out in slum clusters across the city. The party said it will raise other issues such as the 'deteriorating law and order' situation, the 'false promise' of ₹2,500 per month to the women, and waterlogging. It will also protest against the school education Bill for being 'anti-parent and anti-education'. Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav said party members met slum dwellers, who he said are living in 'constant fear of being displaced'. 'The BJP government, since it came to power, has already displaced 15,000 families,' the Delhi Congress chief said, adding that slum dwellers should not be displaced without alternative arrangements even if there is a need to relocate them. 'After Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of demolition of JJ Clusters in the Lok Sabha, the Chief Minister of Delhi [Rekha Gupta], under pressure, said that not a single slum in Delhi will be demolished, but on the other hand, asserted that the slums along the railway lines cannot be saved. He [Rahul Gandhi] urged the Delhi government to clarify its intentions towards the slum dwellers, instead of playing with the lives of the poor people,' Mr. Yadav said. Alleging that the Arvind Kejriwal government has locked thousands of flats constructed by the Congress under the Rajiv Rattan Housing Scheme, aimed at providing better living conditions for the poor, for 11 years, Mr. Yadav said, 'Those houses should be repaired and allotted soon to the residents of slums.' Meanwhile, on Saturday, Ms. Gupta inspected government flats built for economically weaker sections (EWS) in 2011 in Sultanpuri, which are in a dilapidated condition. She said that the government is working to meet the demand for one million houses.
