Elton John and unlikely pal voted top duo by fans after he ends decades-long feud with Madonna
BRITS have revealed their favourite unlikely duos – with Elton John friendship with a US rapper coming out on top following their joint Grammy performance in 2001.
A poll of 2,000 adults found other improbable but loved friendships, both real and fictional, include GK Barry and Rev Richard Coles – as well as Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett's close bond also made the top 15 alongside Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks.
Yet it was 78-year-old Elton 's connection with US rapper Eminem, 52, which came out top, after the Rocket Man singer forged a connection with the chart star when he became his AA sponsor.
The Detroit born rapper and actor reached out to pop legend Elton who came to his rescue.
"As a fellow musical superstar with nearly 30 years of sobriety under his belt, Elton John was the perfect mentor to help guide Marshall," wrote author Anthony Bozza in his book Not Afraid: The Evolution of Eminem.
"The two started on a program of weekly check-ins and grew very close."
The popularity of Elton's friendship with the Stan rapper, real name Marshall Mathers, comes after he made amends with Madonna, ending their years-long feud.
While looking at the list of the nation's traditional favourite duos, the survey also stated how Laurel and Hardy (42 per cent), Ant and Dec (31 per cent) and Paul McCartney and John Lennon (29 per cent) came out on top.
The research was commissioned by Twix, which has partnered with TV personality Pete Wicks, 37, featuring his famous friendly other half, Sam Thompson, 32, to celebrate its campaign Two is more than one.
The pair emulate the likes of 'Spiedi, 'Brangelina' and 'Bennifer' as they announce their own duo nickname 'Sam and Pete Twix' - merging their surnames to take their duo status up a new notch.
Pete said: 'We couldn't be any more different, and that just works, so we (or more so Sam) jumped at the chance of combining our names.

'He's gutted he didn't think of it first, though jokes aside, the best thing about our duo is we always have each other's backs – and you can't ask for more than that.'
The research also found other iconic duos included comedians French and Saunders (25 per cent), rock legends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (16 per cent), as well as Noel and Liam Gallagher (12 per cent).
When quizzed on what makes a pairing iconic, 56 per cent say it's about bringing out the best in each other.
Meanwhile, 24 per cent believe it's because they are total opposite, but it works - and another 24 per cent reckon a key sign is everyone talking about them.

More than two thirds (66 per cent) think the phrase 'opposites attract' is true in real life connections, and 37 per cent claim they have experienced their own unlikely friendship.
It emerged 52 per cent have bonded with someone who seemed completely different to them at first, with one in 10 stating they are now best friends with that person.
Nearly a quarter say their BFF knows them better than anyone else, and 25 per cent even admit they confide more in them than they do their own partner.
According to 32 per cent of the OnePoll.com respondents, knowing each other's families is what indicates 'best friend status' the most.
As well as spending all day together and still having things to talk about (31 per cent), knowing each other's favourite things (28 per cent), and speaking your own language (15 per cent).
Lauren Godfrey, senior brand manager for the chocolate brand, which has also created a quiz where users can answer a series of questions to see which famous duo their favourite friendship is most like, added: 'We've always believed the world is more fun in twos – and our research shows we're a nation of duos.
'Whilst none of us can understand the true bond of a pair, it's been fun to take a peep behind the iconic duo that is Pete Wicks and Sam Thompson – or as we like to call them, Sam and Pete Twix.'

Lizzo proudly displayed her reduced frame on Friday - a week after she finally admitted to briefly using Ozempic to aid in her dramatic weight loss. Firing up her Instagram page, the 37-year-old singer posted an album of herself in a high cut one-piece swimsuit that left little to the imagination. The Detroit-born pop act was headed out to the upscale West Hollywood eatery Craig's, which has established itself as a local favorite among celebrities. She opted for a notably sheer dress that was cut off at mid-thigh, teamed with matching heels and a dazzling necklace. The Truth Hurts singer dropped her Ozempic bombshell last week during an episode of Trisha Paytas' Just Trish podcast. The Grammy winner explained that she started to take the drug at the beginning of her weight loss journey in 2023, but soon came to the conclusion that GLP-1 medication wouldn't help her in the long term. 'I tried everything. Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full.' Lizzo then added, 'But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same thing.' When it came to the star achieving her weight loss goal, the performer explained that her change in diet was the major factor. Lizzo had been following a plant-based diet for many years - including only consuming vegan foods from 2020 through 2023. 'What did it for me is, it was not being vegan,' she told Trisha. 'Because when I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats. 'I was eating a lot of bread, I was eating a lot of rice and I had to eat a lot of it to stay full. But really I was consuming 3,000-5,000 calories a day.' The songstress also talked about how some food products - even if they are small in size - can be packed with 'fake sugar' that can leave you still feeling hungry. 'So for me, when I started actually eating whole foods and eating like beef, and chicken, and fish. Like, I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of fake things in there that wasn't actually filling me up.' While the star made the choice to stop taking Ozempic early on, she stated that she didn't see it as 'cheating' for those that have taken the medication to help with losing weight. 'It's not easy. It's a drug to help somebody with something they're struggling with,' the performer expressed. 'I think their way of being fat phobic when you're telling someone they're cheating.' It was previously revealed back in January that Lizzo lost 16% of her body fat and reduced her body mass by 10.5. When it comes to how she feels now after dropping the weight, Lizzo explained, 'I feel like I worked really really hard and it was intentional with what I did with my body. 'So when I get compliments, I go, "Thanks b***h." Like I really receive it because I need to receive that. I don't take it any weird way because I tried to do this.' Sir Elton John and Rod Stewart have kept up one of the longest running fallouts in showbusiness. Despite the veteran rockers having known each other for over 50 years, they have been locked in a hostile feud that's morphed from childish pranks to full blown character assassinations. The catty pair have been handbags at dawn over the years and made some spectacular digs at each other in a seemingly never-ending war of words. As Rod prepares to follow in Elton John's footsteps with a performance on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage,we take a look back at one of showbiz royalty's wildest ever feuds. After launching music careers in the swinging sixties, Elton and Rod went from chart rivals to pals before amusing fans with a series of escalating pranks. Rod once said he looked on Elton as a 'fierce enemy' in the music biz but said their public put-downs started out on just a 'playful' level before things really turned sour. When Rod launched his Blondes 'ave More Fun Tour back in the 1970s, Elton arranged for billboards with his own face were plastered on the opposite side of the street reading: 'But Brunettes make more money'. In another incident, Elton hired a sniper to shoot down blimps Rod hired to promote his music from the sky. "We had the worst row, like a married couple. It went on forever," Rod previously admitted. Elton told readers their disdain for one another reached boiling point when Rod slated him during a TV appearance. The crooner said Elton's epic 300 date Farewell Yellow Brick Road retirement tour was 'dishonest' and 'stunk of selling tickets.' Rod added that he would never dream of announcing his retirement from music so publicly as it was not very 'rock and roll.' The public dig left Elton reeling for months and he exacted his revenge some time later in his no holds-barred autobiography. Putting pen to paper, he scathed: "I certainly didn't feel like I needed a lecture on the feral spirit of rock and roll from someone who'd spent most of the last decade crooning his way through the Great American Songbook and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas." And he didn't stop there... "He was accusing me of being dishonest about one of the biggest decisions of my life," fumed the hitmaker. "What's more, I thought he had a f***ing cheek, complaining about me promoting a tour while he was sat on a TV show promoting his own tour." When the book came out Rod made an apology... of sorts. "She (Elton) doesn't like me at the moment. I was bang out of order. Correct, but bang out of order," he told reporters. Rod blamed his loose tongue on TV producers plying him with too booze before the show. "Four big shots of neat vodka and with me being a butch man, I knocked them all back. 'I said that 300 dates in three years sounded a bit money-grabbing to me. Look, I know where's he's coming from. "He's just got two kids very, very late in life but I'm planning my tours around my kids. I think he'll miss it. I can't wait for the next show.' Rod made a plea for peace by inviting Elton's young sons to play football on his personal pitch, an olive branch the Rocketman singer flatly declined. In November 2020, a small thaw began to show in Elton's grudge as he said he hoped to put an end to the disagreement with his old pal in time for Christmas. He promised to send Rod a card and give him a "big hug" but later admitted: "In the end I just sent an email to his assistant. "It said: 'I wanted to be p****d at first but we've known each other for so long it's water under the bridge. Who cares? Good luck with your new album'." Any hopes for a face to face chat were swiftly dissolved when Rod retorted that he would now only speak to Elton in interviews. "I put something out there and it will be in the evening papers and he'll say something in our morning papers. That is how we fight our battles," he explained. Elton said he did try to speak to Rod personally to smooth things over but received a message from Rod's manager that he was on 'constant vocal rest' between his shows and unable to talk. Glastonbury viewers fume as The Searchers' final gig 'snubbed' by BBC
The Searchers ended nearly 70 years of touring with their debut at Glastonbury Festival on Friday - but their final performance was not shown on BBC iPlayer BBC fans were left feeling let down as The Searchers' live performance failed to reach TV screens. The Liverpool legends wrapped up an astonishing 70 years of touring with a landmark debut at Glastonbury Festival today. Kicking off on Wednesday, June 25, the Worthy Farm festival will thrill music lovers until Sunday, June 29, boasting performances from a glittering array of musical talent. The top-billed superstars gracing this year's stages include The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo, and Neil Young, alongside other big names such as Charli XCX, Grammy-award victor Doechii, Rod Stewart, and The Prodigy. Spotted in the company of John McNally and Frank Allen from The Searchers was none other than Sir Paul McCartney, all ahead of the band's final bow. Fans had their hopes dashed when they tuned in on Friday evening from 8pm to 9pm for the Acoustic Stage event only to find it absent from BBC iPlayer. Despite the plethora of live content streaming across platforms, including stalwarts like the Pyramid Stage and newcomers such as Woodsies Stage – to name but a few – the omission of the Acoustic Stage did not go unnoticed. Disgruntled viewers took to social media, with one fan posting: "Surely The Searchers should be on one of the feeds live, last ever show." With roots stretching back to the '60s and having started their incredible journey at the iconic Cavern Club amidst peers like The Beatles, Gerry and The Pacemakers, and The Swinging Blue Jeans, The Searchers' farewell performance symbolised a fitting tribute to their remarkable impact on the music world. In a heartfelt sign-off, The Cavern Club bid their "bittersweet farewell" to a legendary group that's been synonymous with Liverpool for over 60 years. They said: "We know they'll take the same energy, warmth, and timeless tunes to the Glastonbury stage as they have to every gig over the years - from the cellar of The Cavern Club to the bright lights of international fame. "While this may be their final show, their legacy will echo on - in their records, in the countless musicians they've influenced, and of course, here at The Cavern Club, where it all began. We'll be cheering them on at Glastonbury - and we know the whole of Liverpool will be too." One of the original band members, John McNally, spoke with a buzz to the BBC about his unprecedented debut: "A Glastonbury debut at 83-can anyone top that? I don't think life gets any better, does it? "There will be a few nerves, but in a good way, and we'll be nicely warmed up from our shows in June. We can't wait to see our fans again for this incredible final farewell." Frank Allen gave a nod to his incredible six-decade stint with the band: "I have played shows across the world with The Searchers for over 60 years; Glastonbury has always been an ambition that has eluded us – until now. "The Searchers are finally performing at the greatest music festival of them all. What a way to round off a tour and a career. I can't wait to get up on stage and give our fans one final blast."
