Rs 143 cr spent on infrastructure facilities in social welfare hostels
On Wednesday, Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy along with Minister for Women and Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare Gummadi Sandhya Rani handed over cash awards, mementoes and merit certificates to 315 talented students, who achieved excellent results in SSC and Intermediate examinations. The two Ministers were the chief guests for the cash awards distribution programme held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram.
Addressing the students, teachers and parents, Veeranjaneya Swamy said that doctors will be appointed in hostels to take care of the students staying in Gurukula schools.
He said the government is providing facility to stay in the hostels during summer to those students, who do not have guardians. He urged teachers to work with the objective of achieving 100 per cent results in Gurukula and hostels run by social welfare departments.
Minister G Sandhya Rani said that she was delighted to hand over the merit certificates and cash prizes to the talented tribal students on the death anniversary of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju.
She said 34 merit students got cash prizes, with first prize is Rs 20,000, second prize Rs 15,000 and third prize is Rs 10,000. She said the tribal students are reaching greater heights with the financial assistance given by the government and infrastructure facilities in the hostels and schools. She reminded that it was former CM NT Rama Rao, who laid foundation for the development of Gurukula schools. She informed that 2.36 lakh students are studying in 551 Ashram schools, 1,958 tribal primary schools, 199 residential schools across the State.
The Ministers have felicitated 36 teachers and staff for their services in the social welfare and tribal welfare departments.
Principal Secretary of social welfare and tribal welfare department MM Naik, social welfare secretary V Prasanna Venkatesh, director Lavanya Veni, tribal welfare department secretary G Gautami and officials, staff, parents and students attended the programme.

'I challenge LoP Rahul Gandhi — if the Congress truly cares about the Backward Classes, SCs, and STs — let him declare Mallikarjun Kharge as the Prime Ministerial candidate. But they won't. The Gandhi family won't allow it. Neither Rahul Gandhi nor Sonia Gandhi will approve it,' Vijayendra claimed. He alleged that the agenda of the OBC meeting was not the uplift or development of OBCs, but rather electoral gains in Bihar. 'This is the real agenda. 'Can a party that treated SCs, STs, OBCs, and minorities as slaves of the Gandhi family now claim to deliver justice to them? Why has the Congress suddenly formed an OBC panel? All eyes on Srikalahasti Devasthanam chairman post
Tirupati: The appointment of the chairman for the Srikalahasti Devasthanam Trust Board, which has been lying vacant since March 2024, has emerged as a flashpoint of political competition within the ruling NDA alliance, as key leaders intensify efforts to secure control over the influential temple body. Despite assuming office in June 2024, the NDA coalition has left the temple post unfilled for over a year, even as several nominated positions across the state were swiftly occupied. With mounting pressure from alliance partners and local party units, sources say the government is now poised to finalise the appointment, possibly in the next couple of days. TDP leader Rangineni Chenchaiah Naidu of Yerpedu mandal has emerged as the frontrunner, backed firmly by Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Sudhir Reddy. A former Market Committee chairman and longstanding TDP loyalist, Chenchaiah is also closely associated with the Bojjala political family. During the YSRCP government, he reportedly faced political harassment, including multiple police cases. While the BJP and Jana Sena initially sought to stake a claim, their prospects appear to have waned. BJP state secretary Kola Anand, who once held the same post under the Congress government led by Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, is said to be lobbying for the position either for himself or a close relative. However, the BJP's case reportedly lacks momentum in the current equation. Jana Sena's bid effectively collapsed following the arrest of former constituency in-charge K Vinutha and her husband in a murder case. Although Vinutha had proposed a nominee from her family earlier, her expulsion from the party closed all avenues in this regard. Intra-party competition within TDP has also surfaced. Senior leaders Reddyvari Gurava Reddy and Dasharadhachari have directly conveyed their interest to the party high command. Former MLA S C V Naidu has reportedly been lobbying for the candidature of S Praveen, son of ex-legislator Satravada Muniramaiah. Amid competing claims, the NDA leadership is believed to have conducted an IVRS-based public and cadre opinion survey in the Srikalahasti constituency to assess local sentiment and narrow down options. As one of the six Category-C temples in the State, Srikalahasti sees a daily footfall of thousands and generates over Rs 1 crore in daily revenues. The chairman wields considerable influence over appointments, contracts, and temple development works, making the role a powerful position in both religious and political terms.

Student outfits demand clarity on proposed 161 per cent of polytechnic fee hike
HYDERABAD: With the state government indicating that it plans to revise the annual fee for all diploma courses offered by private polytechnic colleges from Rs 14,900 to Rs 39,000, a whopping 161% increase, several student organisations submitted a memorandum on Wednesday, demanding clarity on the fee structure and an explanation on how the reimbursement will be done. Some polytechnic aspirants said that the government, which cited unconfirmed fees as the reason for delaying seat allotments, must provide clarity on the same. Just a day earlier, the first phase of seat allotment was conducted, in which 80,949 students had appeared, and only 28,996 seats were allotted. The government had earlier announced that full fee reimbursement would be provided only to students with ranks below 1,000, while others would need to pay Rs 24,100. This move could effectively deter economically weaker students from pursuing vocational education, yet there has been no official clarification so far. The Students' Federation of India (SFI) questioned how students could continue their education if such a steep fee hike is implemented. They argued that if the government bears approximately Rs 70 crore annually, all students could have access to education. Although a GO was issued last year proposing the fee hike, no clarity has since been given on whether the new structure will be implemented. It would be better if the state government provided clarity immediately; otherwise, the SFI is prepared to launch a statewide agitation, said S Rajnikanth, state president, SFI.
