OPEN// PM starts tour at Ain Sokhna port to follow up importing natural gas
CAIRO, June 21 (MENA) - Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli asserted on Saturday that the Egyptian government is actively working to secure the country's natural gas needs by enhancing the infrastructure required to receive imported liquefied natural gas (LNG).
This move aims at boosting the efficiency and flexibility of Egypt's gas supply system to meet the growing domestic demand, particularly during the high-consumption summer months, he added.
This came during an inspection tour on Saturday at Ain Sokhna port where Madbouli emphasized that these efforts are part of a broader, integrated package of measures being implemented by various ministries to ensure the stability of the national electricity grid.
He particularly highlighted the importance of energy security in light of recent regional developments, notably the Israeli military operation in Iran.
During the visit, Madbouli inspected the LNG regasification vessel Energos Eskimo, reflecting the government's commitment to strengthening energy security and ensuring the sustainability of gas supplies.
He was accompanied by Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi.
Madbouli revealed that Egypt is set to operate three regasification vessels starting from July.
He also announced that a fourth regasification vessel would be held in reserve as a contingency measure to ensure continued availability of petroleum products and enhance national energy security. (MENA)

Israeli airstrikes kill at least 49 in Gaza as ceasefire talks show some progress - War on Gaza
Israeli airstrikes killed at least 49 Palestinians across Gaza from Friday night into Saturday, as ceasefire talks showed some progress amid ongoing attacks on homes and shelters. Twelve people were killed near the Palestine Stadium in Gaza City, which had been sheltering families forced from their homes. Eight more were killed in their apartments, according to staff at Shifa hospital. Over 20 bodies were taken to Nasser hospital in Khan Younis, health officials said. The latest attacks came as US President Donald Trump said on Friday that a ceasefire deal could be reached 'within the next week.' Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer is expected in Washington early next week for talks on Gaza, Iran, and regional escalation, according to a US official. The US brokered a temporary ceasefire during the final days of Joe Biden's presidency, with involvement from Trump's incoming administration. That agreement collapsed in March when Israel resumed its war on Gaza, launching widespread air and ground attacks that killed more than 400 people in the first days alone. The renewed bombardment has intensified what humanitarian agencies describe as a man-made catastrophe, with entire neighborhoods flattened and access to food and medical aid repeatedly obstructed. Since 18 March, Israeli forces have killed 6,008 Palestinians and wounded 20,591, according to Gaza's health ministry. The total death toll since the war began on 7 October 2023 stands at 56,331, with 132,632 wounded. Most of those killed have been women and children. Around 50 captives remain in Gaza, fewer than half believed to be alive. Hamas has said it is prepared to release all remaining captives in exchange for an end to the war. Israel has refused, demanding Hamas's disarmament and exile—conditions the group rejects. Israel continues to impose a blockade that has pushed much of Gaza's population to the brink of famine. After cutting off all food and supplies for more than two months, it began allowing limited aid deliveries in mid-May through the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The mechanism has been widely condemned by rights groups and UN agencies. More than 500 Palestinians have been killed near aid sites since late May, most shot while attempting to reach food, according to Gaza's health ministry. Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) has described the system as 'slaughter masquerading as humanitarian aid.' Witnesses say Israeli forces have opened fire on civilians approaching convoys.
