I tried on 13 Reitmans dresses on sale for under $75 — if you're in your 40s or 50s, these styles are seriously good
If you're Canadian, you might be familiar with Reitmans. The brand is known for their smart, sophisticated clothing that doesn't break the bank — but until recently, I'd never actually stepped foot in a store before. As a busy mom of two, I'm usually ordering clothes online from Amazon, but during a recent emergency trip to Walmart (where I also snapped up this stunning wicker chair — on sale!), I stumbled into a Reitmans in the same plaza — and I was blown away.
I ended up trying on more than a dozen dresses, and was surprised how well they fit my 48-year-old body. For me, aging isn't just about gaining weight; it's more about weight shifting (thanks, menopause!). That stubborn mom pooch won't budge no matter what I do. But the way these dresses fit and fall made me feel like the best version of myself. Even better? They're all currently on sale, and they come in a wide range of sizes from XXS to 3X.
Check out some of my favourite Reitmans dresses for summer 2025 (and beyond!) below.
Split-Neck Shift Dress
$36 $60 at Reitmans
I love the playfulness of this striped dress. Its non-stretch woven fabric feels like linen, and those short flutter sleeves provide just the right amount of coverage. It's such a cute dress that you can easily pair with casual flip-flops or dressier wedge sandals, taking you from day to night in a pinch. However. one reviewer mentioned that the dress is "very see-through," so definitely keep that in mind when choosing your undergarments.
Puffy-Elbow-Sleeve Dress with Split Neckline
$22 $75 at Reitmans
This chic shirt dress is so easy to style, and features a removable sash, so I'm also looking forward to pairing it with a thicker leather belt. The dress runs big — I'm wearing an XXS, and it was still a bit loose — so keep that in mind when deciding on sizing.
Sleeveless Square-Neck Midi Dress
$42 $70 at Reitmans
The moment I slipped into this vintage-inspired dress, I was all set for a fun day out with the girls. The midi length is perfect, and the bodice hugs my curves for a super-flattering fit.
Sleeveless V-Neck Maxi Dress
$41 $100 at Reitmans
This was my favourite dress of the bunch. The longer length and V-neckline fit my smaller frame so comfortably, and the high elastic waistband showcased my curves in the best way possible. Plus, I really appreciated the support from the thicker straps, making it a fantastic option for a variety of bust sizes.
Cap-Sleeve Mini Dress with Square Neckline
$22 $75 at Reitmans
One reviewer called this dress a "summer must-have" — and I couldn't agree more. The capped sleeves and self-tie back give it such a unique style. Plus, the waistline falls a little higher, keeping it from landing right on my mom pooch.
T-Shirt Dress
$30 $60 at Reitmans
I'm obsessed with T-shirt dresses — they're so casual, cute and comfy. I tried this on in a small, but I'd probably size down to an XS for a less oversized fit. You can cuff the sleeves for a quick coffee run or throw it on over your bathing suit for a fun day at the beach. And hey, if I'm too tired to change at the end of the day? It doubles as a cute sleep shirt.
Short-Sleeve Buttoned-Down Dress with Shirt Collar
$42 $70 at Reitmans
This "super soft" collared button-down shirt dress is the very definition of low-maintenance style. I can wear it with sneakers, sandals or even heels! Come fall, I'd pair it with tights and cowboy boots.
Sleeveless Fit-and-Flare Dress
$26 $80 at Reitmans
The crochet bodice of this fit-and-flare dress is a total showstopper. I also appreciated the 100 per cent cotton lining, and who doesn't love a sweetheart neckline? While I loved the look of the adjustable knit straps with buttons, I noticed the buttonholes got a bit stretched out, causing the straps to loosen. For that reason, I'd recommend sizing down to prevent any wardrobe malfunctions.
Cap-Sleeve Buttoned-Down Midi Dress with Cinched Waistband
$48 $80 at Reitmans
This dress didn't stand out on the rack, but I was so glad I tried it on. The capped sleeves and split neckline with a shirt collar fit perfectly. Also the cinched waistband kept it from being too drapey, giving it a more tailored look. And let's talk about the button-down front. It really makes this longer dress a bit sexier. It's such a fun dress, easily taking you from work to play.
Milkmaid Midi Dress with Bubble Sleeves
$54 $90 at Reitmans
Reitmans is really nailing it with the sweetheart necklines. The versatility of the short bubble sleeves makes it a great work or play dress, and it'll work well into fall. I also really like the zip closure in the back, which helps the dress fit more securely. It is roomy on top, so if you are small-chested like me, I would size down.
Sleeveless Midi Dress
$45 $75 at Reitmans
This A-line maxi dress is effortlessly flattering. I also love the elastic neckline in the back, making it much easier to get on and off. The seam pockets are, of course, a major plus. I can totally see myself wearing this for a casual night out. I might even shake things up by adding a thick belt for a more tailored look. The soft viscose-nylon blend fabric is ideal for those humid nights when you don't want anything touching your skin. With its timeless style, it's no wonder 91 per cent of reviewers recommend this dress.
Extended-Sleeve Shift Dress with Split Neckline
$36 $60 at Reitmans
The rounded hem of this flowy shift dress makes it such a fun choice, especially combined with the bold pattern. I used to shy away from patterns, but as I've gotten older, I've found them to be very forgiving. This crinkly fabric is great for travel — no ironing required!
Extended-Sleeve Midi Dress with Ruched Side
$36 $60 at Reitmans
There's no such thing as too many little black dresses. This one, with its ruched side and sexy slits, is perfect for a day at the office, or a night on the town. The bodycon silhouette adds a playful touch to this stretch knit dress. I'm also very into the extended sleeves for those days when you want a more modest look. It's not too tight, either, so I won't feel self-conscious about it hugging my body in all the wrong places.

Don't Get Ripped Off. What to Pay for Stylish, Quality Menswear in 2025.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American man spends $553 total on apparel and footwear each year. More money doesn't necessarily buy better style, but men who don't have an eagle eye for thrifting will likely need to spend $1,200 to $2,500 a year to look good, said Lauren A. Rothman, a stylist in Washington, D.C. To budget effectively, she advises shopping only twice a year, 'once when it gets hot and once when it gets cold.' That approach reduces the risk of random impulse purchases. Building a wardrobe from scratch? Expect to pay $4,000 to $5,000, said New York stylist Turner Allen. Geoff Haggray, a well-dressed photographer in New York, estimates that he spends $2,500 a year on his closet. The 26-year-old buys some designer items but said he's relatively thrifty. 'I either wait for a sale or a really good deal where I'm like, OK, I have to get this,' said Haggray, who hits up the Brimfield flea market in Massachusetts for workwear jackets. At the extreme end of the spectrum, Larry Curran, a dapper stylist and fashion consultant in New York, spends 'in the low six figures' on his wardrobe annually. His big-ticket items: bespoke sunglasses from Maison Bonnet and rakish suits by luxury labels Husbands Paris and London's Adret. 'I pick out things that are special to me,' said the 40-year-old.

If you keep scrolling, you'll find niche devices like a $1,249 self-cleaning litter box (Jonathan Van Ness is also a fan), the tote bag to end all tote bags and peel-and-stick wallpaper that, while aesthetically pleasing, was a "pain in the ass" to install (and yet, still recommended!).
