Sood: Plans in place to boost network & power output in city
The power minister said due to the lack of attention of the previous AAP govt, the transmission network of Delhi largely stagnated over the past few years, and there was no significant capacity addition, resulting in an increase in power outages over a period of time. Sood agreed that Delhi Transco Limited executed only 58 of 120 schemes under its 13th business plan, and only one substation was commissioned under their 14th plan.
"The result was an increase in constraints and bottlenecks in the transmission and distribution network in Delhi. But, just in a few months of the BJP govt coming into office, significant reforms are taking place to revive and revitalise the power sector of Delhi," Sood said.

According to the minister, 14 major schemes consisting of five substations of 400kV and 220kV level, 36 new transformers of various capacities, and many transmission lines, totalling Rs 3,310 crore, were now at various stages of implementation.
"The transmission capacity of Delhi will increase from the present 13,040 MVA to 19,835 MVA at the 400kV level and from 14,780 MVA to 19,340 MVA at the 220kV level. This significant capacity addition in the power network is going to ensure reliability and uninterrupted power supply to residents of Delhi for the coming years," Sood said.
The minister informed that power discoms have also planned to infuse capital investment of around Rs 1,937 crore in the current financial year for strengthening the distribution network of Delhi, which was significantly higher than the last two years.
"There was less network upgradation during the tenure of the previous govt, but due to the continuous review and decisions of the BJP-led dispensation, using creative strategies and load rationalisation in consultation with all stakeholders, Delhi was able to meet a peak demand of 8,442 MW on June 12 without any load shedding. The unscheduled outages also reduced significantly from 2,045 in the previous year to 1,946 in the current year.
With the concentrated effort of the BJP-led govt, the outages are going to further decrease in the coming years," Sood said.
The minister also highlighted the increase in subsidy for installing rooftop solar plants as a step towards providing clean, green, and uninterrupted power supply in Delhi. He added that the power regulator recently released guidelines for rooftop solar installations under the utility-led aggregation model.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday criticised the Gujarat government for the lathi charge and use of tear gas on livestock farmers protesting outside the Sabar Dairy facility in Sabarkantha district. The farmers protested on Monday, demanding a fair share in the dairy's profits and a hike in milk procurement prices. Kejriwal condemned the use of force against the demonstrators, calling it an act of "brutality". Taking to X, he posted, "The BJP government has crossed all limits of brutality by ordering a lathi charge and tear gas on the livestock farmers peacefully protesting outside Gujarat's Sabar Dairy. Demanding a share in the dairy's profits is not a crime." He also paid tribute to a dairy farmer who died while going home after the protest concluded. "The people of Gujarat will surely respond to this dictatorship of the BJP," Kejriwal added. What began as a peaceful protest quickly turned volatile when agitators forced their way into the premises, damaging property, tearing down metal barriers, smashing CCTV cameras, and hurling stones. At least three people were injured in the ensuing chaos, prompting police to resort to tear gas and lathi charges to restore order. The protest also spilt onto the Himmatnagar-Talod highway, bringing traffic to a standstill for several hours. In response, heavy police forces were stationed in and around the dairy facility to prevent further escalation. Protesters claimed that private security guards were deployed to silence dissent rather than address their grievances. At the core of the unrest is a sharp dip in incentive payouts. Farmers said that while Sabar Dairy had allocated Rs 602 crore in bonuses last year, resulting in a 17 per cent rise in milk prices, this year's allocation has been slashed to Rs 500 crore, leading to a meagre 9.75 per cent increase. With operational costs rising, farmers argue that this year's incentives fail to match their labour and input expenses, leaving them with no choice but to take to the streets.

Kotak cut its FY26–28 volume assumptions by 12–16%, forecasting just 3.1 lakh units for FY26 against Ola's guidance of 3.25–3.75 lakh units. It warned that the muted industry growth and intensifying competition could hinder Ola's market share and profitability goals. Future performance, Kotak added, will depend on the success of cost optimisation efforts under 'Project Lakshya', and the operational ramp-up of its 5 GWh Gigafactory, which could serve as a key upside trigger. Meet woman, who wanted to become a doctor, couldn't clear NEET exam, now got a Rs 72.3 lakh job at Rolls-Royce after 8-months of countless tests, she is... A 20-year-old girl from Mangaluru, who once struggled for months to get an internship at her dream company, has now been offered a job there. K.S. Rithuparna, a 6th-semester student at Sahyadri College, has been selected for a job at Rolls-Royce in the USA with a huge salary package of Rs. 72.3 lakh per year. Her journey, however, wasn't easy. After finishing school, Rithuparna dreamed of becoming a doctor and studied hard for the NEET exam. But when the results did not meet her expectations, she was heartbroken. It was a tough time, but with her parents' support, she decided to give engineering a try and joined the Robotics and Automation course in 2022. She is currently training in the Jet Engine Manufacturing Division at Rolls Royce. What started as an unsure step into engineering has now turned into a journey filled with innovation and dedication. Her excellent performance during her internship led to a pre-placement offer (PPO) from the company. Rithuparna is the daughter of Saresh KN and Geetha Saresh, and has a younger sister, Rithvika KS. She studied at Sr Agnes School and is now doing her BE in Robotics and Automation Engineering. Speaking about her journey, she said, 'After my PUC, I wanted to become a doctor. But I didn't get a government seat through NEET. Later, I got a government seat in engineering through the 2022 CET counselling and joined Sahyadri College. At first, I was disappointed, but I started learning and experimenting from the very first day.' Her first project focused on helping Arecanut farmers Her first project focused on helping Arecanut (betel nut or supari) farmers using robotics. She and her team built a machine to harvest and spray arecanut trees. They presented it at the INEX competition in Goa and won both gold and silver medals. She joined a research team at NITK Surathkal, where she studied robotic surgery and even spoke with doctors to learn more. Later, she met the then Deputy Commissioner, Mullai Muhilan MP, and joined a team working on a mobile app to help manage solid waste in the city. Her biggest dream was to intern at Rolls Royce With that goal in mind, she reached out to the company. At first, the response she got was disappointing. Someone from the firm reportedly asked her, 'Do you even qualify to be part of our company?' They even told her that she wouldn't be able to complete even one assigned task in a month. Instead of giving up, Rithuparna calmly asked them to give her a chance. She promised she would complete the task and prove herself. They finally gave her a task and a one-month deadline. Although she didn't fully understand the assignment at first, she spent hours researching, reading, and learning from every possible source. Her hard work paid off she completed the task in just one week. Impressed, Rolls Royce gave her more work. What followed were eight months filled with tough assignments, late nights, and difficult interviews. There were moments when Rithuparna doubted if her dream would ever come true. But in December 2024, all her efforts were rewarded after she received a direct job offer from Rolls Royce through a pre-placement offer (PPO). Despite the tough schedule, she managed both her college work and job responsibilities with full dedication. Once she completes her 7th semester, she will officially join the Rolls Royce team in Texas, USA. In late April, Rithuparna received yet another surprise the company decided to increase her annual package from Rs. 39.6 lakh to Rs. 72.3 lakh, which she will start receiving once she moves to the US office. Lawrence Joseph Fernandes, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics & Automation at Sahyadri College, said, 'We are extremely proud of her achievement. She has set an inspiring example for all our students.'
