Cyberpunk 2077 finally launches for Mac July 17 — here's the Macs that can play it

Tom's Guide2 days ago
It took a long time, but CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 is finally arriving on Apple's Mac computers with Apple Silicon on July 17. If you're counting, that's only two days away. If you've been jonesing for another opportunity to explore Night City, or you've never played the game, you won't need to wait long.
Officially called Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, the game will drop on the Mac App Store, Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.com, giving players a wide range of places from which to purchase the game.
If you're one of the people who have already played Cyberpunk 2077 and are looking to sample it on a new platform, it supports cross-progression across all platforms. It includes the Phantom Liberty expansion and all significant updates to the game so far — version 2.3, just released for other platforms, should also be included.
Almost all Macs with Apple Silicon will be able to play Cyberpunk 2077, but there are a few exceptions. To run the game, the computer must have at least 16GB of unified memory. Older Apple M1 and M2 devices with 8GB of unified memory will be unable to play the game. While a relatively small percentage of the total Apple Silicon devices in the world, for those who have these models, it's understandably frustrating.
Otherwise, developer CD Projekt Red will offer different preset graphics modes for varying levels of hardware, which will eliminate some of the guesswork for those not accustomed to tweaking graphics settings. If you're running an M3 Mac with 16GB of unified memory, you'd select that preset and not have to worry about fumbling with any other settings.
Anyone with an Apple XDR display or any of the best HDR monitors will receive HDR support, which should help bring the vibrant world to life. The developers even included spatial audio and head-tracking with Apple AirPods, further increasing immersion.
It'll be interesting to see how well Cyberpunk 2077, a five-year-old game, sells on Mac. Sure, it's a new platform for the game, but I wonder how many Mac owners haven't had access through Switch 2, Xbox, PlayStation, or PC at some point.

Either way, it's a good sign for Mac gaming that a high-end, AAA game is coming with tweaks and modes explicitly designed to take advantage of the powerful Apple Silicon chipsets.

Forget the iPhone 17 Air — iPhone Fold just tipped to be thinnest iPhone ever

The iPhone 17 Air may be on track to set the record for "world's thinnest iPhone," but it might not hold that title for long. According to a new rumor from leaker Instant Digital, the iPhone Fold could land that title when it arrives next year. While Ming-Chi Kuo once predicted that the iPhone Fold could be as thin as 4.5mm when unfolded, Instant Digital claims the frame is actually 4.8mm — not including any extra thickness from the internal screen's "frame padding." Even if this means the iPhone Fold inches closer to 5mm in thickness when open, it's still considerably thinner than the iPhone 17 Air's rumored 5.65mm. Of course we've just seen Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 land with a thickness of just 4.2mm when unfolded. While not the thinnest foldable ever made, it's still pretty darn close. In fact, considering it's only slightly thicker than a USB-C port, there's only so much more Samsung should shave off the device. Still, Samsung has had 7 generations to thin down its foldable phones, whereas Apple has yet to release a single one. Assuming Instant Digital is correct about the size, this could be a compelling first foldable phone for Apple. We've been hearing a bunch of things about the iPhone Fold recently, which makes the prospect of the foldable arriving next year seem even more likely. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The most notable of which is that the phone could come in under $2,000 — making it cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Analysts predict that the phone could cost somewhere between $1,800 and $2,000. While we can't say how accurate those predictions actually are at this early stage, it gives us hope that the phone may not be quite as expensive as intially feared. To top it all off, there have been reports that Apple has partnered with Samsung to offer a crease-free foldable display. Ming Chi-Kuo claims that not having that display crease will help the phone stand out from other, more established foldables. Plus, if Apple wants to succeed in China, where foldables are a lot more common, then it's going to have to do something special. We've got a ways to go until we find out for sure, but in the meantime you can keep up with the growing number of leaks and rumors in our iPhone Fold hub.

Apple Hasn't Pulled the 2025 M4 MacBook Air Deal From Prime Day, Still Live for Back-to-School

We have a theory as to why a top-line laptop like the 2025 M4 MacBook Air would still be on sale at a steep $150 discount at Amazon a full week after the Prime Day event. Maybe there were just so many incredible deals at Amazon for Prime Day that they just haven't gotten around to throwing all the switches that turn all the prices back to full rate. It's certainly not because there's any lack of demand for the M4 MacBook Air, one of Apple's bestsellers. But really, does it matter why this 15% off deal that drops the price of the 13-inch M4 MacBook Air down to from $999 to just $849 is still active at Amazon? It would be inadvisable to stare this technological gift horse in the mouth. Just head to Amazon and check out all of the many, many selling points of this only 4-month-old Apple laptop and take the deal before it vanishes. See at Amazon While the rumors of an M5 chip continue to be just rumors, Apple's M4 processor remains the cream of the laptop crop. The M4-powered 2025 MacBook Air which debuted only this past March runs twice as fast as the M1 MacBook Air, and an incredible 23 times faster than the the last Intel-powered MacBook Air. And until there's an M5 chip or some other huge product drop out of Cupertino, the M4 will remain the fastest and most powerful processor available. In this 2025 MacBook Air, that M4 chip is busy driving the gorgeous 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, which supports 1 billion colors, along with the 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, four built-in speakers with Spatial Audio, and studio-quality mics. If you're wanting even more visual stimulation, the 2025 MacBook Air can support up to 2 external monitors through its two Thunderbolt 4 ports. The MacBook Air is a streaming, video-conferencing, gaming wizard with this kind of tech firepower, and even if you find yourself binge-watching your favorite series for longer than you expected, you have an 18-hour battery at your disposal. If you really want to see the 2025 MacBook Air stretch its legs, fire up the Apple Intelligence assistant and put it to work for you. Ask it anything — it has among the best privacy features built in, so much so that even Apple cannot access your search history. One of these days some Amazon worker is going to notice the Prime Day switch on the 13-inch 2025 M4 MacBook Air hasn't been toggled back to the full-price position. Before that happens, jump on this Amazon deal now and snag this exceptional laptop while it's just $849. See at Amazon

Dyson's $500 headphones come in even more colors

Dyson is expanding the range of ear caps and cushions it offers for its customizable OnTrac headphones, with two new colors launching today for each. That doesn't change the four default designs you're able to pick from when buying the $499.99 OnTracs, but it does give existing owners new options to mix up the design. The cushions now come in 'Sky Blue,' which was already available for ear caps, and 'Caramel,' which is entirely new. Meanwhile, the caps are now available in 'Ceramic Oyster Pink,' previously exclusive to the cushions, and an all-new 'Ceramic Chalk White.' Replacement sets of caps and cushions are available from Dyson's site for $49.99. The OnTrac headphones launched in July 2024, a more practical follow-up to the ill-fated Zone, which combined over-ear headphones with a Bane-esque air purifying mask. The customizable design is the main way the OnTracs are differentiated from rivals like Apple's AirPods Max or the Sony WH-1000XM6, and the new colors mean there are now ten different sets of ear caps to choose from, and nine pairs of cushions.
