World Matchplay Darts 2025 schedule, time, TV channel and odds

Metro19-07-2025
The 2025 World Matchplay gets underway at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Saturday night, with the defending champion in action.
Luke Humphries lifted the Phil Taylor Trophy last year, beating Michael van Gerwen 18-15 in the final.
The world number one is a leading contender to claim the title again, alongside the likes of world champion Luke Littler and the bang in form Gerwyn Price.
The World Matchplay is notoriously difficult to win on more than one occasion, though, with only three players ever managing multiple Matchplay titles.
The Power dominated the event for so long, winning it 16 times, with only Van Gerwen (three) and Rod Harrington (two) boasting more than one title..
Humphries could join that very small club this year, as could James Wade, Gary Anderson, Peter Wright, Dimitri van den Bergh, Rob Cross and NAthan Aspinall.
Littler is favourite, though, despite never winning a match in the tournament before as he lost in the opening round to MVG on debut 12 months ago.
The tournament runs from Saturday July 19 to the final on Sunday July 27.
Sky Sports will be showing the tournament, on Sky Sports Main Event and Action. Streaming is available on Sky Go and for non-Sky Sports subscribers through Now TV.

Speaking ahead of his title defence, Cool Hand said: 'This would be a very, very special title to retain.
'The World Matchplay is one of those tournaments I wanted to win more than anything, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
'I think the venue is so iconic, the fans all love their darts and they just create a brilliant atmosphere.
'Some of the greatest highlights in darting history have been created at the World Matchplay, and I think that's why it's so prestigious.'

Luke Littler beats James Wade to claim World Matchplay crown for first time

Luke Littler won his first World Matchplay crown as James Wade's remarkable run in Blackpool fell at the final hurdle. Littler claimed a hard-fought 18-13 victory at the Winter Gardens to become the fifth player to win the PDC triple crown - Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson and Luke Humphries having also won World Championship, Matchplay and Premier League titles. Wade was in his seventh Matchplay final 18 years on from his solitary success in 2007, which came six months after Littler was born. Littler's scoring power in a high-quality contest proved decisive - he hit 17 180s to Wade's six in averaging 107 - and set a new tournament record of 64 maximums, beating Adrian Lewis' previous best of 56. 'It means absolutely everything,' Littler told Sky Sports after winning the last four legs to hold the Phil Taylor Trophy aloft. 'I idolise Phil, he's come here 16 times and won it. Now my name is on this trophy - and I can say I've completed the Triple Crown. 'Since I started on the tour and got my tour card I've always said to myself, 'as long as I win one of every major I'll be happy'. I've only got a few left to tick off and I'll definitely chase the majors I haven't won yet.' Littler had to mount another comeback 24 hours after losing the first five legs of his semi-final to Northern Ireland's Josh Rock. Wade stormed into a 5-0 lead but did not have a single dart at a double in the second mini-session as Littler levelled in style. The 42-year-old left-hander produced an 11-darter in the next, but Littler responded by winning successive legs to lead for the first time at 7-6. Wade managed to keep in touch, helped by a bull finish in the 19th leg, and fought back from a double break down to cut the gap to just one at 14-13. But Littler pulled away and crossed the line in style with a 115 out shot (20-57-38), the biggest finish of the match. 'A little bit,' Littler said when asked if he had felt in control. 'Five-nil down once again, I said, 'I've been here before, what are you doing?' But I managed to pull it out of the bag and win the next five. I've shown I can come back from 5-0 or 7-3 down. I'm happy I can pull myself out of these scorelines, but I don't want to be 5-0 down again. James started to drop off a bit and I started to find my best darts.' Luke Littler celebrates making darts history - and £200k payday - on stage with his girlfriend... after confirming relationship with subtle gesture on live TV

Luke Littler capped off a sensational night at Blackpool 's Winter Gardens by confirming his relationship with his fun-loving beautician girlfriend after clinching the 2025 World Matchplay title. The 18-year-old secured £200,000 in prize money and became the youngest player ever to complete darts' prestigious Triple Crown, by defeating James Wade 18-13. His haul was just the latest milestone in a year where he bagged £500,000 for the World Championship and earned in excess of £500,000 from Premier League success, propelling his career earnings to over £1.5 million. In a breathtaking display on the night, Littler logged a 107.24 three-dart average, a 42 per cent checkout rate, and no less than 17 180s. In front of the cameras on Friday, the world champion shared a passionate kiss with Faith Millar, 19, prior to his quarter-final clash with Andrew Gilding. And after his triumph on Sunday, Littler finally confirmed that the pair are an item, after months of insisting they were merely friends. A reporter said to the teenage sensation in an interview: 'Your family and girlfriend are here', to which Littler nodded his head. The gesture was all but a verbal admission that he and Faith have gone official. The pair were first pictured together in May when Littler shared a photo of them together to his 1.9million followers on Instagram. Mail Sport had exclusively revealed in March that the duo had bonded, though a source insisted they were just pals. A source said at the time: 'Faith and Luke have become firm friends and enjoy one another's company a lot. 'Faith and Luke met a few weeks ago. They just clicked and since then have spent quite a bit of time with each other. 'They live quite close to each other so it's been easy to meet up. 'Faith has met Luke's mum and dad and some of the friends he grew up with and she's been round to his mansion a few times. Both Luke and Faith were keen to play down their relationship for months and insist that they were just friends 'Faith was with him at a BoohooMan event on Monday. 'But despite trying to stay in the background, she's been pestered quite a bit by his fans who are keen to know who she was. 'But there's no bit story there - she's a very ordinary, very sweet, normal girl. ''She works as an eyelash technician in Wigan but realises the fact that she hangs around with Luke, who is really famous, means that people will show her a bit of interest as well, she realises that. 'Faith is a very sweet girl, very bubbly and kind. It's no surprise that she and Luke get on so well.' Faith declined to comment about the friendship when approached outside her family home. But a spokesman for Littler confirmed that he and Faith had struck up a friendship but said: 'That's as far as it goes, they are just good friends for now. Nothing more. 'Luke doesn't want a girlfriend at the moment, he's focusing on his darts and is too busy travelling around the country to start up a relationship.' Millar comes from Wigan, just 15 miles from Luke's home in Warrington, Cheshire. Littler previously dated beauty consultant Eloise Milburn, who watched on at the 2024 World Darts Championship as an unknown Littler became an instant sensation by reaching the final. However, Littler reportedly ended the relationship in July of last year after his hectic schedule made it difficult for the pair to spend time together. Sunday night's win has placed Littler in rarefied air. He is now just the fifth man ever - alongside Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, and Luke Humphries - to complete Triple Crown. This includes winning the PDC World Championship, Premier League, and World Matchplay titles. Littler achieved the monumental milestone after just one and a half years as a professional.
