G.V. Prakash's upcoming film Blackmail, directed by Mu Maran, is all set to release in theatres worldwide on August 1, 2025. The announcement was made on Saturday by the production house JDS Film Factory, which is backing the project.
Sharing the news on their official X (formerly Twitter) page, the makers wrote, 'We are happy to announce our first production movie #Blackmail — a gripping thriller drama — confirmed as August 1st Release #BlackmailfromAug1."

Blackmail stars G.V. Prakash in the lead role, along with actress Teju Ashwini. The cast also includes Srikanth, Bindhu Madhavi, Linga, Thilak Ramesh, and Muthukumar in important roles.
The film is produced by A Deivakani and presented by Jayakodi Amalraj under the banner JDS Film Factory. Director Mu Maran is known for his earlier film Iravukku Aayiram Kangal, a well-received thriller that starred Arulnithi and Mahima Nambiar.
In the first look poster of Blackmail, G.V. Prakash is seen standing next to a motorcycle, which has a number plate that reads 'Money." His expression shows confusion and worry, giving a hint of the tense story the film might follow.
On the technical front, Blackmail has a strong team. Cinematography is by Gokul Benoy, and the music is composed by Sam C.S. Editing is being handled by San Lokesh. The action scenes are choreographed by Rajasekhar. Costumes for the film are being designed by Thilakapriya Shanmugham and Vinod Sundar. Makeup is being done by Sasikumar Paramasivam.
G.V. Prakash Kumar, born on June 13, 1987, is an Indian music composer, playback singer, actor, and film producer who mainly works in Tamil cinema. He began his journey in the film industry with Veyil (2006), produced by S Pictures. By the early 2010s, he had made a strong mark as a composer in Tamil films.
In 2015, he made his acting debut with the horror-comedy Darling. Over the years, he has received several awards for his contributions to cinema, including one National Award, three Filmfare Awards, and three SIIMA Awards.
G.V. Prakash Kumar was born to G. Venkatesh and playback singer A. R. Reihana. Reihana is the elder sister of renowned music composer A. R. Rahman, making Rahman Prakash's maternal uncle. His younger sister, Bhavani Sre, is also a part of the film industry.

On the other hand, the Hindi version had a lukewarm response at around 10.6%, while Tamil regions saw moderate interest at around 19%. Now, when you add the U.S. numbers, the film is racing towards a $140 million-plus (Rs 1,169 crore+) global weekend. It has already become one of the highest-grossing Apple Original Films. In Mexico, too, the film held the title of best opening day for any Apple title, and the same goes for Australia. In US, F1 opened with $25 million (approx. Shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, Kuberaa was crafted with a pan-India vision. Yet, the buzz in Tamil Nadu hasn't translated into ticket sales. 'I was in awe of him and thought it was a moment of pride. So, I thought it would catch on in Tamil and really hope that it happens.
