OTT platforms keep dropping a bunch of web shows, films, and a few docuseries every now and then, and we are here to help you binge-watch them. And today, we will be sharing another docuseries that will crawl under your skin and stay there.
Some stories aren't just disturbing; they're nightmarishly real. Indian Predator: Beast of Bangalore, released in 2022, is one of them. An unflinching look into the twisted life of Karnataka's most feared serial killer: Umesh Reddy. Once a man in uniform, Umesh turned predator, hunting and brutally murdering women between 1996 and 2002. While 18 lives were reportedly lost to his savagery, he was convicted in just nine cases.
Bengaluru's years of fear
Reddy's crimes weren't just about murder—they were layered with horrifying details: sexual assaults, the chilling pattern of stealing women's clothes, and multiple escapes from police custody. He didn't just commit crimes—he haunted an entire city. His most infamous act? The 1998 murder of a widow in Peenya gripped Bengaluru in a wave of panic. The docuseries captures the fear and chaos through testimonies from victims' families, journalists, and police officers who witnessed the horror unfold firsthand.
About the docuseries
Directed by Ashwin Rai Shetty and produced by Vice Studios, the three-part docuseries uses dramatic reenactments to immerse viewers in the tense atmosphere of late-'90s Bengaluru. While some viewers felt the dramatisations lacked punch, the series succeeds in tracing Reddy's deeply disturbed psyche and the institutional lapses that let him slip through the cracks more than once.

Each episode runs about 40–45 minutes and is available in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. With a modest IMDb rating of 6.2, it may not be flawless, but it's a hard-hitting chronicle of crime, fear, and a city held hostage by one man's monstrous instincts.

6 arrested for ‘film-inspired' heist in retd doctor's home

1 2 Kendrapada: Police in Kendrapada district arrested six individuals, including a 20-year-old engineering student, on Wednesday for posing as vigilance officers and looting the home of a retired physician, reminiscent of the Hindi film 'Special 26'. Police said that on July 10, the gang, inspired by the 1987 Opera House heist in Mumbai depicted in the Akshay Kumar-starrer, executed their meticulous plan at the residence of Jalil Ahmad Khan, 80, a retired doctor, in Oldhi village. The accused entered Khan's home under the guise of vigilance officers. Once inside, they confiscated the family's mobile phones and confined them to a corner while they ransacked the house. The imposters decamped with around 500 grams of gold ornaments valued at Rs 50 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash. The accused have been identified as Saraf Ali, 35, and Prafulla Behera, 43, both from Oldhi, Abhilas Nayak, 20, an engineering student from Poila village, Jakir Khan, 41, from Thakurapatana village, Abu Jafar Khan, 30, from Garapur, and Sk Raju from Ranapada village. Police recovered Rs 50,000, four mobile phones, two motorcycles, and several incriminating documents from the accused. Two more suspects remain at large, and investigations are ongoing. The breakthrough came after a dedicated police team analysed call detail records and CCTV footage, leading to the identification and arrest of the accused. "Their plan, inspired by a film, crumbled due to our methodical approach," said Ambika Prasad Das, IIC of Derabishi police station. The accused have been charged under sections 310 (dacoity) and 333 (house trespass) of the BNS. They were produced in court on Wednesday, which rejected their bail applications and remanded them in judicial custody. Khan said, "We are happy that the police arrested the criminals. Cops have assured us that they will recover all the looted items soon."

Telangana HC reserves judgment in Deverakonda case

Hyderabad: Justice N Tukaramji of Telangana high court on Wednesday reserved verdict in a petition filed by actor Vijay Deverakonda seeking to quash an FIR registered against him over alleged derogatory remarks made against tribal communities during a public event. After hearing both sides, the judge reserved the judgment. The FIR, registered at the Raidurgam police station, was based on a complaint filed by Girijana Sangala Joint Action Committee (JAC) president N Ashok Kumar Naik. He alleged that Deverakonda, during an event in April had made objectionable statements, humiliating the Scheduled Tribes (STs). Counsel for the petitioner N Naveen Kumar argued that the complaint was filed nearly two months after the event and that it casts serious doubt on the credibility and bona fides of the allegations. The actor placed before the court transcripts and English translations of the impugned speech, along with a public clarification issued via Twitter on May 3. They contended that the remarks caused deep hurt to tribal communities and warranted investigation.
