India Star Forgets Item At Hotel Ahead Of Departure To Birmingham, Labelled Next Rohit Sharma

India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy left an item at the team's hotel in Leeds, ahead of the departure for the second Test, starting July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. India trail 0-1 in the five-match series as England won the series opener at Headingley by five wickets earlier this week. However, Reddy did not feature in the match as the team management opted to go with veteran all-rounder Shardul Thakur instead. With less than a week remaining for the start of the 2nd Test, the Indian team departed for Birmingham earlier this week. However, before the team's departure, an interesting incident took place as Reddy forgot an item at the team hotel and was spotted leaving the bus to collect it. He returned to the bus after a while and was also spotted having a chat with the security head of the Indian team. Reddy's forgetfulness reminded a fan of Rohit Sharma, who also has an habit of forgetting things at team hotels. Nitish Kumar Reddy forgets things like Rohit does in the hotel room — Shikha (@Shikha_003) June 27, 2025 India head coach Gautam Gambhir defended captain Shubman Gill 's decision to under bowl Shardul, who could be dropped for the second game in Birmingham. In his first Test since December 2023, Shardul was under-utilised in the pace department and was rather underwhelming with the bat, totalling five off 20 balls across two innings. Questions were raised about his presence in the playing eleven ahead of a specialist bowler when he rolled his arm over for six overs in the first innings before bowling 10 in the second. Like he often does, Shardul did pick a couple of wickets out of nowhere to raise hopes of an Indian comeback on day five but the bite in his bowling was missing. He alongside the likes of Prasidh Krishna offered too many loose balls, lacking consistency to test the opposition batters. With India losing the game having controlled for a major part of five days, there is no need to ring the alarm bells but a few changes are certain in the playing eleven for the Edgbaston Test.. Experts cried out for Kuldeep Yadav 's inclusion in the series opener and now he is most likely to replace Shardul with the surface expected to aid the spinners in Birmingham.. "Kuldeep needs to be there. There is no point playing with four pacers. Either of Shardul or Prasidh can make way for him," former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar told PTI.

Malaysian junior team to compete in Murugappa Gold Cup

For the first time in the history of the MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup All-India invitational hockey tournament, an International team will be competing in the prestigious event. The Malaysian team, as part of its preparations for the forthcoming FIH men's junior World Cup, will be taking part in the tournament, scheduled to be held at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here from July 10 to 20. Speaking to The Hindu on Friday, Rajiv Reddy, Organising Secretary of the tournament, said: 'We wanted to raise the bar and we are happy that the Malaysian team is coming to Chennai. They also wanted to get acclimatised to the conditions before the junior World Cup to be held in Chennai and Madurai from November 28 to December 10. We tried to get a team from Europe or from Asia. At the time, Malaysian Hockey Confederation expressed its intentions and we were only too happy. In the future, we are keen to get international teams.' According to Reddy, the biggest challenge was to get approval from few Central agencies. 'We received clearance from Hockey India and Sports Ministry, and we were thrilled when we got clearance from Ministry of External Affairs and Home Ministry,' he said. China, too, showed interest but the MCC shot it down, he added. The Malaysian team is expected to arrive in the city on July 10 with its head coach Nor Saiful Zaini, its CEO Jayanandhan Vivekanandan and support staff.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 27 (ANI): Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy attended the 2nd North-East Mining Ministers' Conclave in Guwahati on Friday, where he underlined the government's commitment to developing the mining sector in the northeastern region and praised the state of Assam for its steps against illegal mining. Speaking to mediapersons at the event, the Union Minister said, 'The Mining and Coal Ministry is organising the 2nd North-East Mining Ministers' Conclave. We want to encourage the northeastern states in the mining sector.' Reddy also emphasised the significance of the eight northeastern states, often referred to as the Ashtalakshmi states, in India's growth narrative. He said, 'Under the leadership of PM Modi, we want to strengthen the Ashtalakshmi states further.' Highlighting the progress made in the region over the past decade, the minister noted that the northeast has witnessed a big boost in infrastructure in the last 11 years. He added, 'The PM himself has visited the northeast more than 60 times in these past years.' Reddy also praised the Assam government for taking strong steps against illegal mining. 'Assam govt has stopped illegal mining in the state,' he said. The Ministry of Mines, in collaboration with the Ministry of Coal and the Government of Assam, organised the 2nd North East Geology and Mining Ministers' Conclave on June 27-28 in Guwahati. The conclave, being held under the Government of India's vision of 'Viksit Bharat,' will witness participation from all eight North Eastern states. The Chief Minister of Assam graced the occasion as Chief Guest, alongside Mining and Geology Ministers from across the region. The event aimed to promote sustainable and scientific mining, improve the ease of doing business in the resource sector, and strengthen centre-state coordination for balanced regional development. Building on the success of the first conclave held in Nagaland, this year's edition will feature a series of impactful sessions and releases. The Geological Survey of India (GSI), under the Ministry of Mines, also presents the latest findings on mineral exploration and unveils key publications dedicated to the region's geology and resource profile. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between central agencies and state governments to accelerate mineral exploration. The conclave will also feature NLC India Ltd.'s ambitious plans to set up 1,000 MW of solar power capacity in Assam, contributing to the national target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil energy by 2030. The two-day conclave signifies a strong convergence of efforts between the Ministry of Mines and the Ministry of Coal, aligning energy security with regional development and environmental sustainability. The event is expected to serve as a catalyst for future investments, innovation, and inclusive growth in the North Eastern Region. (ANI)
