Week-long search for missing mountain biker ends after he drove back home in his own car
Ralph Sawyer, 52, was reported missing Friday, July 11, after his family said he had . Six days later, deputies were notified that he had returned to his car and driven home.

'Mr. Sawyer showed up to a neighbor's house tired, cold, dirty, and worn out,' officials said. 'Gresham Police confirmed it was him and he was transported to a local hospital to be checked out.'
The week-long search , beginning after teams discovered Sawyer's blue Kia Soul with his cell phone inside the car shortly after midnight on Saturday, July 12.
The sheriff's office previously told KOIN 6 News that Sawyer was familiar with the area and added that he was an experienced biker using a bike suitable for the area.
It is not yet clear what led to Sawyer's extended stay in the forest.
A GoFundMe was set up while Sawyer was missing, and as of Thursday morning, it had raised nearly $16,000.

German investigators said Monday that a train derailment over the weekend that killed three people and injured 41 others was the result of a mudslide caused by heavy rains. 'The water caused a landslide on the embankment near the tracks, which in turn probably caused the derailment,' the police in Ulm, where the train was heading on Sunday evening when it went off the rails, said in a statement. The train driver, another member of the crew and a passenger were killed in the crash near Riedlingen, a small town roughly 30 miles north of Lake Constance in southern Germany. The police said that many of the injured were passengers. Videos of the scene that appeared on television networks showed several of the train's cars lying on their sides, bunched together next to the tracks. The rear car was still standing upright after the accident, but had also come off the tracks. The tracks were visibly bent several yards behind where the train came to a stop, the news footage showed. A large amount of mud was visible on several parts of the track. Rescue workers worked into the night trying to care for the wounded and transport them to surrounding hospitals. Half a dozen emergency helicopters helped in the evacuation, news reports said. The accident was one of the most deadly rail crashes in Germany since 2022, when a regional train derailed near Garmisch-Partenkirchen in southern Bavaria, killing five. In that case faulty tracks were deemed to be the cause.

A woman has gone missing and police are concerned for her welfare
An appeal has been launched for help to track down a young woman who has gone missing. Police are looking to locate Sherine Dunn, stating there is concern for her welfare. Officers have released a description of the 22-year-old in the hopes of triggering the memory of anyone who may have seen her. They have encouraged anyone who knows of her whereabouts, or has any information to share which may be helpful to the search, to come forward and share it with police. A statement from South Wales Police reads as follows: "Sherine Dunn 22, from Swansea is missing and there is concern for her welfare. "Sherine is from the city centre but has links to Townhill, St Thomas and Bonymaen. "She is described as 5ft 2 inches tall, slim, with long hair, and has tattoos on her neck." Police ask anyone with information contacts them using the reference number 2500219822 via its live chat platform, by filling in an online form or calling 101. South Wales Police says it receives, on average, more than 8,000 missing persons reports every year. It says a missing person is defined as someone whose whereabouts cannot be established, and that they will be considered missing until they care located and their wellbeing or otherwise is established. Its website reads: "Often the missing person themselves does not consider themselves 'missing', however until they are sighted safe and well by police as a result of the concerns raised for them, they will be classed as a missing person. "While we appreciate our communities' concerns when a person goes missing, and the genuine offers of help and support, we kindly ask that the public don't conduct their own searches. "We ask this for a number of reasons; our searches are coordinated by highly-trained, well-equipped search experts who take an intelligence-led, methodical approach which everyone involved understands and follows." Large emergency response called to Chicago's Montrose Beach
A large emergency response was called to Montrose Beach on Chicago's north lakefront Sunday evening. Police and fire officials as of Sunday night had not confirmed what was happening. But there were reports of a person missing in the water. The response included boats in the water, a helicopter in the air, and ATVs in the sand. Further details were not immediately available.
