Minister replies in Sanskrit, wins applause in House
Pandey, raising the issue of promoting Sanskrit education in MP, began by announcing he would read his motion in Sanskrit. "Since my call attention motion concerns Sanskrit, I will like to read out the notice in Sanskrit," he said.
As the members looked askance at each other, Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar said: "He will read it out in Sanskrit but the written text with you is in Hindi and the minister will reply in Hindi, too."
But, Singh took the House by surprise when he started replying as he, too, spoke in Sanskrit at length before turning to Hindi. "If I knew you were going to read out the notice in Sanskrit, I would have come better prepared and replied to the whole thing in Sanskrit," he said.
The minister, sharing Pandey's demand for better Sanskrit education facilities, however, said the BJP govt would always be committed to promote Sanskrit language, the language of gods and nobody should have any doubt about it.

"If Cow Statue Can Enter Parliament, Why Not A Living Cow?": Shankaracharya
Mumbai: Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand has said that a cow should have been taken into the new Parliament building at Central Vista during its inauguration. "If a statue of a cow can enter Parliament, why can't a living cow be taken inside?" he asked reporters on Sunday. The seer said the Sengol held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while entering the new Parliament building showed a cow engraved on the sceptre. "A real cow should have also been taken into the building to bestow blessings. If there is a delay, we will take cows from all over the country and bring them to Parliament," he said, adding this would ensure the PM and the building receive blessings of a real cow. The Sengol is installed in the Lower House of the Parliament. He also demanded that the Maharashtra government immediately frame a protocol on cow felicitation. "The state has not yet declared how to honour the cow. It should finalise a protocol so that people can follow it, and also fix penalties for its violation," he said. The Shankaracharya demanded that every assembly constituency in India have a "Ramadham" — a cow shelter accommodating 100 cows. "A total of 4,123 Ramadhams will be built across the country. The shelters will focus on daily cow service, protection, and promoting indigenous breeds," he added. Those following the protocol while caring for cows would be financially rewarded. "A person taking care of 100 cows will receive Rs 2 lakh per month," he added. The Hindu pontiff further said that the Dharma Sansad has passed a congratulatory resolution in support of Hoshangabad MP Darshan Singh Chowdhary, who has demanded that the cow be declared as Rashtramata (Mother of the Nation). The Shankaracharya said people should support only those candidates who protect cows and work for legislation in their interest. "The present regime has not yet satisfied us. Cow slaughter must be completely stopped in India," he added. Addressing the language controversy, he said, "Hindi was first recognised for administrative use. The Marathi-speaking state was formed in 1960, and Marathi was recognised later. Hindi represents several dialects — the same applies to Marathi, which has borrowed from its dialects." The seer said any violence should be treated as a criminal offence. He demanded justice in the Malegaon blast case, stating that the real culprits must be punished. "It is ridiculous that the government is celebrating Amrit Kaal while cows who provide us with milk are being slaughtered. Those in government cannot be called our brothers unless they stand in support of cows," he said. PTI ND NSK ARU

Sukhbir Badal takes on AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, alleges AAP made underhand deal with Delhi builders
1 2 Bathinda: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership had struck a ₹30,000 crore "underhand deal" with Delhi-based builders to hand over 65,000 acres of Punjab land at throwaway prices to fund election campaigns across the country. Addressing a protest outside the Bathinda deputy commissioner's office, Sukhbir called AAP's land-pooling scheme a "land-grabbing scam" and vowed to continue statewide agitation until the plan was scrapped. "We will not allow an inch of land to be acquired under this scheme," he declared. He accused AAP's national convener, Arvind Kejriwal , of shifting base to Punjab unofficially, saying he had taken up residence in Mohali's Markfed office. "Similarly, Manish Sisodia was given a house next to chief minister Bhagwant Mann's in Chandigarh. Delhi politicians have taken control of Punjab's governance," Sukhbir claimed. Criticising the state's land acquisition process, Badal targeted a five-member committee chaired by the chief secretary, which he claimed was dominated by non-Punjabis. He urged the chief secretary not to support what he described as an "illegal" acquisition process that bypasses the 2013 central land acquisition law in favour of Punjab's older 1995 legislation — one he says is unfair to farmers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Sukhbir questioned the practicality of the govt's plans, citing historical land acquisition data. "Only 11,000 acres were acquired in Punjab in the last 25 years, with 3,000 acres still undeveloped. Chandigarh was built on 28,000 acres 75 years ago, and 8,000 acres remain vacant. How will AAP develop 44,000 acres, including 24,000 in Ludhiana alone?" he asked. He warned that farmers would be left in limbo for years, with undeveloped land destroying livelihoods and destabilising the agricultural economy. The former deputy CM also noted that several village panchayats had passed resolutions opposing the land-pooling scheme and called for a mass movement to resist what he sees as a dangerous precedent. Former ministers Janmeja Singh Sekhon and Sikander Singh Maluka also attended the protest.

BJD's Puri dist strike on Thurs to ‘demand justice' for 15-yr-old
1 2 Bhubaneswar: BJD on Monday called for a six-hour hartal in Puri on Thursday, demanding justice for the 15-year-old girl who died from burn injuries at AIIMS Delhi on Saturday. The party alleged she was murdered despite family members and police stating it was a case of self-immolation. "We will observe the strike from 6 am to 12 noon across Puri district," said Uma Samantaray, BJD's Puri district president, adding that emergency services will remain unaffected. The girl had claimed on July 19 that three unknown men set her on fire near her residence. Police sources said she later changed her statement before a magistrate at AIIMS Delhi, confessing to self-immolation. Following her death on Saturday, her father reiterated that she took her own life due to family-related stress. The family also urged that her death should not be politicised. BJD, however, alleged the police pressurised the girl and her family to call her death a suicide. "We still believe she was murdered. Mystery shrouds the circumstances leading to her father's claim that she killed herself. Police and govt must have applied pressure on the family. We want justice for her," Samantaray said. The govt rejected BJD's claims. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Beyond Text Generation: An AI Tool That Helps You Write Better Grammarly Install Now Undo "The opposition should not politicise the tragedy. Let the police complete their investigation. Truth will come out," deputy chief minister Pravati Parida said after attending the victim's burial at her native place on Monday. Parida assured govt support for the bereaved family. "The govt put in its best efforts to save her. She was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi where the best team of doctors treated her. Unfortunately, she could not be saved. The family is very poor. Our govt will provide all necessary support and assistance to the family," she added. Responding to the opposition demands for her resignation, Parida stated, "If my resignation helps to bring the girl back to life, I am ready to quit 100 times. The opposition should know that our govt ensures quick and expeditious action against perpetrators. Justice and action had vanished during their rule."
