Richard King feels the St Mirren love after impressive home debut
Richard King says he felt the love from the St Mirren fans after a memorable home debut at the weekend.
The Jamaican international netted from the penalty spot during the 8-2 Premier Sports Cup mauling of Annan Athletic.
And it was a game the centre-back, who was on international duty at the Concacaf Gold Cup in the United States recently, certainly enjoyed being part of.
Despite finishing international duty just two weeks ago, the highly-rated star made his debut against Forfar Athletic on Tuesday night before being thrown into the starting XI against Annan.
'It feels good,' the 23-year-old said after the game on Saturday. 'I felt the love by the fans, so it was a really good feeling.
'It is a really high level, fast, quick thinking, physical, so yeah, I really like it. It's a good feeling to score on my debut at home. It is a wonderful feeling.'
Having moved to Paisley this summer on a two-year deal from Jamaican Premier League outfit Cavalier, King is hoping to help the Saints break into the top six for the fourth time in a row.
Paisley boss Stephen Robinson has already made his mark on the defender and King says getting a sitdown chat with the manager allowed him to gain a good understanding of the Scottish game.
He also learned from former Buddies wing-back Elvis Bwomono, whom he spent a season-long loan with in Iceland at IBV. King added: 'He's a good coach, a good manager, so he really does that very well [helping people settle in].
'I knew Elvis so I got some good thoughts on the game here. He told me it was a good club, it's wonderful here and it's like a family here; because I knew Elvis was here, and I watched a few games, I saw he was in a good team.'

Ibiza Rocks Hotel cancels music programme after deaths of two British men this month
Ibiza Rocks Hotel has cancelled its music events following the deaths of two British men at the property this month. Ice hockey player Gary Kelly, 19, died on Monday, while Scottish tourist Evan Thomson, 26, fell to his death at the same hotel two weeks ago. In a statement, Ibiza Rocks said it was "deeply shocked and devastated" by the incidents at its venue. "Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations," it said. "The safety and wellbeing of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority. "Given the seriousness of the situation and out of respect for those involved, we believe it is right to pause our advertised events programme." The hotel and open-air music venue was due to host rapper Dizzee Rascal this week and drum'n'bass band Rudimental next week. It is not clear how long the events pause will last. Tributes have poured in for 'hugely talented and charismatic' Gary Kelly, who played for the Dundee Stars. 'We send our thoughts and condolences to Gary's family, partner, and all his friends at this extremely difficult time," the club said in a statement. 'Everyone at the club, including players, staff, management, and ownership are heartbroken to hear this tragic news. 'Gary was hugely talented and charismatic individual who had a great future ahead of him. His loss will impact many in the ice hockey community and beyond. He will be sadly missed." Other ice hockey clubs have also remembered the 19-year-old after his suspected fall from the hotel balcony. Whitley Warriors, who Gary Kelly used to play for, remembered him fondly. 'Whitley Warriors are devastated to learn of the tragic passing of former Warrior Gary Kelly," their post on social media said. 'Gary iced for Warriors on only a few occasions in the 2023-24 season but was a popular player in the dressing room despite the shortness of his time at Whitley.' Glasgow Clan described his death as "truly heartbreaking" on social media. "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident during this incredibly difficult time.' While the Sheffield Steelers also expressed their devastation at the news. 'We send our thoughts and condolences to all that knew him during this difficult time.' The mother of Evan Thomson, Lel Kellighan, posted on Facebook following his death, saying she was "absolutely heartbroken". "My son Evan was in a tragic accident whilst on holiday with his friends in Ibiza and sadly passed away," she wrote. "We are all absolutely broken."

East Kilbride v Inverness: Kilby reaching last 16 of cup would be remarkable, says boss
Kilby sit top of Group F and have a chance of reaching the knockout stages if they see off the Caley Jags tonight Mick Kennedy reckons it would be a remarkable achievement for SPFL newcomers East Kilbride to qualify for the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup. The Kilby boss has seen his side stun Championship side Raith Rovers 4-2 and sink League Two rivals Elgin City 4-1, having taken the lead in a 3-1 defeat to St Johnstone in their group opener. Now Group F table-toppers EK welcome League One Inverness Caledonian Thistle to K-Park in the final game of their group campaign, knowing a win would see them finish on nine points. That would give them the chance of finishing as one of the best runners-up to reach the knockout stages, with group favourites St Johnstone holding a game in hand this coming Saturday. And Kennedy said: 'We've set everything up now to potentially finish a good second place in the group after Tuesday. 'We've given ourselves a real opportunity to do that against Inverness, but I think everyone is well aware of the test we face. There's been a big turnaround up there in the summer and the recruitment Inverness have done, so it is going to be a really difficult game for us. 'It would be a remarkable achievement for the club to qualify. If you look at the group we are in, there are three full-time clubs in it. 'The group is really strong and it would be a great effort from the boys to finish second and then see what happens.' On Saturday, Kilby backed up a stunning win in Kirkcaldy last Tuesday night – where John Robertson struck a five-minute hat-trick in the dying minutes to overturn a 2-01 deficit - to thump Elgin 4-1. Jack Leitch bagged a brace, while Nathan Flanagan and Robertson were also on target, and Kennedy heaped praise on their two victories. He said: 'Against Raith Rovers we had 60 per cent possession and anybody who watched the game would see that Raith's chances were down to us making mistakes rather than Raith punishing us from open play. 'Over the piece, we dominated large parts and I always felt we were in the game, even at 2-1 down. We are never the kind of team to sit in, so we always have attacking intent and we just went for it and got our rewards. 'On Saturday I was delighted as well. We had 22 efforts at goal in Elgin and the boys were in fine form. We are in a good place. 'If we get to the levels we know we are capable of, I think we will be a really competitive team in the league. 'Sometimes travelling long distances can have an impact on performances, but we were terrific from the get-go. 'There were spells either side of half-time where Elgin looked more dangerous in the game, but over the piece I don't think anyone can deny we deserved to win the game. 'We would have scored a few more if it wasn't for Elgin's goalkeeper.' Kennedy admits he has been blown away by the strides his side have made in the group, with the competition serving as their pre-season. He added: 'The boys have been in fine form. We were good for large parts against St Johnstone as well, to be fair. 'Since I have been at the club, our record has been fairly impressive when it has come to playing teams above us. 'I'm delighted with the performances, the results in the last two games and the levels we've managed to get to already, especially when you consider we've had to use this as pre-season because we came back a bit later due to the [promotion] play-offs. 'We've produced these performances despite missing Jamie Hamilton, Cami Elliott, Joao Balde and Jordan McGregor - all key players last season - through injury, so it shows the strength we've managed to build in the group.'

Motherwell star Stephen O'Donnell embracing new style under Jens Berthel Askou
The Steelmen tackle Morton tonight in a Premier Sports League Cup group decider Motherwell defender Stephen O'Donnell is enjoying the challenge of learning fresh demands under the club's third manager of 2025. After two years of relative stability under Stuart Kettlewell, Motherwell employed their second foreign manager this year when they appointed Jens Berthel Askou to replace German Michael Wimmer. The Dane has a similar attacking philosophy to his predecessor in terms of pressing high up the park but his desire to play the ball out from the back has been more pronounced. Askou faces a big test tonight when Motherwell host Morton in the Premier Sports Cup needing victory to guarantee progression to the second round. On adapting to the new boss, O'Donnell said: "We found it with the old manager when he came in. It was a different kind of style, different ideas. And the gaffer has probably amplified that a wee bit more. "I find it exciting, interesting, you're learning different ideas and different ways in which people think of the game. You're always trying to learn. And I think that's something I'm capable of doing. I'm excited to continue to learn. "I've been enjoying it, trying to work on different things. The most important thing is that we are seeing progression on the pitch and in the style, and hopefully getting the wins that make that progression easier."
