President Macron: France will recognize Palestinian State
French President Emmanuel Macron revealed that Paris will formally recognize the State of Palestine during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September.
In a statement, Macron declared, 'In keeping with our historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine.'
Highlighting the urgency of the conflict, he stressed the need to end the war in Gaza, while underscoring that peace remains within reach. Macron further called for the disarmament of Hamas, coupled with efforts to stabilize and rebuild Gaza, presenting these steps as essential to establishing a viable Palestinian state.

'We must guarantee the existence of this state and ensure that, by accepting full disarmament and recognizing Israel, it contributes to the security of everyone in the region. There is no alternative,' the statement added.
Reflecting widespread French support for peace in the region, Macron emphasized the importance of collaboration with Israelis, Palestinians, as well as European and international partners to achieve this goal.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz strongly condemned Macron's decision, calling it 'a disgrace' and 'a surrender to terror.'
In a statement on Wednesday, Katz said Macron's position amounted to 'a reward and tailwind for the murderers and rapists of Hamas,' referencing the group's October 7 attack on southern Israel, which Israeli officials describe as the deadliest assault on Jews since the Holocaust.
'Instead of standing with Israel in this time of trial, the President of France is acting to weaken it,' Katz said, warning that his government would firmly oppose any recognition of a Palestinian entity that could, in his words, 'harm our security, endanger our existence, and undermine our historical right to the Land of Israel.'
The minister asserted that the Israeli leadership remained united in its opposition to the move, which he characterized as a grave threat to national security.
The announcement comes as Israel and the United States withdrew their negotiating teams from the Gaza ceasefire talks in Doha, pointing to Hamas's latest response as a 'major obstacle' to reaching a deal.

Iraq launches sweeping safety reforms after deadly Kut fire
Shafaq News – Baghdad On Sunday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani ordered wide-ranging safety reforms aimed at strengthening civil defense protocols across the country, following a catastrophic in Kut that left at least 70 people dead. During an emergency meeting with provincial governors and relevant ministers, al-Sudani emphasized the urgent need to prevent further tragedies by improving safety standards in public institutions, commercial venues, and infrastructure projects. He directed governors to make civil defense efforts a top priority and to personally oversee the implementation of Iraq's 2013 Civil Defense Law. Under the new directives, all provinces are required to conduct inspections of public and private facilities within 15 days. Facilities found to be in violation of safety regulations may be temporarily closed for up to two weeks. Iraqi politician convicted in corruption case, sentence suspended
Shafaq News – Baghdad Iraq's Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court has handed a one-year suspended prison sentence to Jamal al-Karbouli, a prominent Sunni political figure and head of the al-Hal (Solution) Party, a judicial source told Shafaq News on Sunday. The conviction was issued under Article 453 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which criminalizes breach of trust involving the misuse of entrusted movable property for personal or unauthorized purposes. Al-Karbouli was initially arrested in April 2021 on corruption-related charges but was released later that year, on November 28. Al-Karbouli, born in 1965 and trained as a medical doctor, rose to national prominence as President of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society during the post-2003 period. He later transitioned into politics, founding the National Movement for Development and Reform, better known as the al-Hal Party, one of the leading Sunni political platforms in Iraq. He is also Sheikh (leader) of al-Karabla tribe, part of the Dulaim tribal confederation in al-Anbar province. Throughout his political career, he maintained a role in shaping Sunni parliamentary blocs and electoral coalitions, often positioning himself as a rival to other Sunni leaders such as former Speaker of Parliament Mohammed al-Halbousi.
