Delhi HC extends Geeta Arora's suspension of sentence till next date
New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Friday extended the interim suspension granted to Geeta Arora alias Sonu Punjaban on health grounds till July 22. Her appeal against conviction is also pending. She is admitted to Mehta Hospital in Saket.
Justice Renu Bhatnagar extended the interim suspension of sentence granted to Geeta Arora alias Sonu Punjaban till the next date as listed in the application, along with the main appeal for hearing on July 22.
She has moved an application seeking extension of the interim suspension of sentence for a further 60 days on medical grounds. She is suffering from Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which is associated with the potential development of cancer.
Her counsel submitted that she has been diagnosed with HPV (Human Papillomavirus), a high-risk viral infection associated with potential cancer development.
It was further submitted that the appellant Sonu Punjaban is presently admitted in Mehta Hospital, Saket, New Delhi, for ongoing treatment.
A status report has been filed by the Delhi police verifying the medical documents produced by Sonu Punjaban.
Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) for the State submitted that the treatment the appellant getting is available at AIIMS. While in judicial custody, she was receiving treatment at AIIMS, which is a premier government medical institution.
APP further submitted as per the medical prescription submitted by the applicant, she was advised to report for a follow-up consultation at AIIMS on May 26.
However, to date, no follow-up medical record or prescription from AIIMS has been placed on record to demonstrate that the applicant complied with the said advice, APP added.
It was also contended that the appellant was directed to surrender on June 21 at 5 PM. On June 20, she got herself admitted to Mehta Hospital, a private hospital, to avoid compliance with the surrender order.
The medical prescription of her condition by the said hospital appears to be exaggerated, the prosecution said.
Her sentence was suspended on May 19, which was extended from time to time by the court. She filed an appeal in 2020 challenging her conviction and sentence in a case related to the Immoral Trade Practices Act and other offences. (ANI)

Ashoknagar (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 28 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Police, on Saturday, filed a case against state Congress President Jitendra Patwari for bribing a villager to make false allegations about being fed human excreta, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Kumar Jain said. According to police, Jitendra (Jitu) Patwari asked villager Gajraj Lodhi to make allegations against Mungaoli village Sarpanch. SP Vineet Kumar Jain told ANI, 'Yesterday, Gajraj Lodhi met the collector of Ashoknagar personally and handed him an affidavit stating that some Congress leaders took him to Orchha, where he met Jitu Patwari. Jitu Patwari told him to allege about being fed faeces (by Mungaoli village sarpanch) and bribed him for it.' He added that the police found the allegations to be false and registered a case against the Congress leader. 'Later, he said that the allegations about this were false, and he made this allegation on Jitu Patwari's demand... Based on this, a case has been filed against Jitu Patwari and his aids under various sections of BNS,' SP Kumar said. Earlier on Wednesday, Patwari shared an X post, where he made the above allegations and said that the accused were supporters of BJP leader Brijendra Yadav. Addressing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi he wrote, 'Prime Minister Ji, @BJP4MP The jungle rule of power is crossing the limits of anarchy! Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah hires over 4,000 police personnel in push towards strengthening law enforcement
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday announced a comprehensive push for strengthening law and order in the state and revealed that the government has approved the recruitment of 4,411 police personnel, with appointments expected to be completed within the current year, news agency ANI reported. Siddaramaiah also emphasised the importance of proper case registration and diligent investigations. "Cases that warrant FIRs must be registered accordingly. If a 'B' report is necessary, file it - but the quality of investigation is crucial. A strong investigation includes timely FIRs, proper evidence collection, and striving for higher conviction rates," he stated. The Telangana High Court has postponed the hearing for Thirunagaru Sravan Kumar's appeal, a convict in the 2018 Perumalla Pranay Kumar honour killing case. This deferment occurred because Pranay's wife, Amrutha Varshini, wasn't notified until after arguments began. HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court on Friday deferred the hearing of a criminal appeal filed by Thirunagaru Sravan Kumar, one of the convicts in the honour killing of Dalit youth Perumalla Pranay Kumar, which took place in Miryalaguda, Nalgonda district, in 2018. Sravan Kumar has challenged the life sentence awarded to him by a Nalgonda district court and is seeking to have the conviction set aside. The court postponed proceedings after it was brought to its attention that notice had been served to the complainant, Amrutha Varshini, Pranay's wife, only after arguments in the appeal had commenced. Amrutha's counsel strongly objected to the continuation of the hearing, pointing out that substantial submissions had already been made on behalf of the petitioner (Sravan Kumar) before the complainant was formally notified. However, the court recorded that the high court registry had received the trial court records, and that paper book preparation-a compilation of trial documents for the appeal-was underway as of June 16, 2025. In the interest of procedural fairness and to ensure all parties are adequately represented, the high court ruled that the suspension petition would be heard only after the paper books are completed and shared. It also directed Sravan Kumar's counsel to re-argue the matter in full, once the documents are circulated, to provide the complainant and all parties a fair opportunity to respond.
