Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 70: a history of the number and who wore it best
The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 70 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 70 and the player who wore it best.
Current Steelers No. 70 wearer: N/A
There isn't a current wearer of No. 70 on the Steelers roster — and for good reason, as the jersey was officially retired in 1964 out of respect for one of Pittsburgh's legendary defenders from the 1950s and early 1960s.
Best No. 70 in Steelers history: DT Ernie Stautner
Stautner is the best (and only) wearer of No. 70 in Steelers history. He was drafted with the 22nd overall pick in the second round of the 1950 NFL Draft. Stautner played for the Steelers from 1950 to 1963, appearing in 173 games — 143 of which came as starts. He was named first-team All-Pro once, second-team All-Pro four times, and made nine Pro Bowls. Arguably the most important player of the organization's first quarter-century of existence, Stautner became the first Steeler to have his jersey retired — on October 25, 1964, during halftime of a matchup against the Eagles.

What were Hannah Stuelke's stats during Team USA win vs Colombia?
As Team USA continued their 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup group play on Sunday from Santiago, Chile, Iowa women's basketball star forward Hannah Stuelke enjoyed another dominant American victory. This time it was an 89-43 blowout win over Colombia. In the second game of the tournament for Team USA (2-0), Stuelke scored five points on 2-for-2 shooting from the floor and 1-for-3 from the free-throw line. The senior Hawkeye forward also collected five rebounds and one steal to close out her night. In the lopsided affair, Stuelke saw 14:24 court time as Team USA utilized every player against the Colombians. Leading the team in scoring on Saturday was Vanderbilt guard Mikayla Blakes, who posted 15 points on 4-for-10 shooting. Stuelke and Team USA will play their third game of the tournament on Monday night at 7:10 p.m. CT against Puerto Rico (1-0). The game can be streamed on Courtside 1891 through MAX. Former Patriot rips comparison of Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers to Tom Brady
Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady will forever be interlinked as two of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play — but a former Patriot believes the recent retirement talk is what truly separates the two. Colin Cowherd hosted Julian Edelman on The Herd this past Thursday, and when comparisons between Brady's final season and Rodgers' upcoming retirement tour were made — the former Patriots wideout seemingly took exception. 'You can't even put those guys in the same sentence, because we didn't know it was Tom Brady's last year,' Edelman said. 'When it was [Brady's] last year, he didn't want the distraction of that. He wanted to go out and play his best possible football that he could play the last year of his career without making it a distraction. Now, we know it's [Rodgers'] last year — we've heard that before.' It's safe to say we know Edelman's opinion on Rodgers' retirement confirmation — which is almost the polar opposite of Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger's take on the situation. Can Rodgers shut out the criticism for his final run — or, a better question — what will it take for the four-time MVP to get the respect he arguably deserves? Deion Sanders shares recovery update as possible Colorado return nears
A post shared by @COACHPRIME (@deionsanders) Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is taking small strides in rehab after stepping away from the team to attend to an unspecified health issue. His son, Deion Jr., shared a hopeful update over the weekend. A recent post on the elder Sanders' Instagram account revealed Coach Prime wearing a weighted vest while walking with his son. The caption read, "Every little step I take, my son [Deion Jr.] has been there, so we've decided to keep stepping! Coach Prime is coming to a stadium sold out soon." Sanders' absence has had ripple effects on the Buffaloes' offseason routine after he missed spring youth camps and has not been in Boulder since April. The weighted vest could suggest that Sanders is trying to accelerate his recovery, as it helps build strength. While specifics of his condition remain private, the 57-year-old coach revealed in May, during a podcast with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel, that he lost 14-pounds earlier this spring. A few weeks ago Sanders did update Colorado fans on his recovery saying on social media saying 'everything is okay' and that he will provide more details on his health when he returns. Sanders previously missed time due to blood clots in 2023 that forced him to miss a Pac-12 media days. A major sign in his recovery could come in a couple weeks when he is expected to attend the Big 12 media days on July 9 in Frisco, Texas. His presence there could mark a turning point, signaling readiness to return to his coaching duties ahead of fall camp. Colorado kicks off its 2025 season at home against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29.
