‘Singing Songs…': Vijay Rupani's Last Conversation With Family Before Air India Crash In Ahmedabad
The family of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was among the victims of the last month's ill-fated Air India-171 plane crash in Ahmedabad, remembered the late leader saying that he was not just a part of their family but of all the families of Gujarat.
Vijay Rupani's son Rushabh Rupani, recounted his last conversation with his late father saying that there has been a tradition in the family to talk on video calls in the morning and evening, so they both had a usual conversation on that ill-fated day too.
Rushabh said that he was in the US that time and they both had the conversation about Vijay Rupani going to London to his daughter after two to three years.
'It has been our family's tradition to talk on video calls in the morning and evening. We spoke that day, too (on the day of the Air India plane crash). I was in America then. We talked about him going to his daughter, my sister's, house in London after two to three years…" he said as quoted by news agency ANI.

Rushabh further said that his daughter (Vijay Rupani's granddaughter) had a special relationship with him. He said that whenever his call used to come, the two-year-old toddler herself used to take the phone and start talking.
He further said that his daughter was singing songs with the late leader when they last talked on June 12.
'My daughter was two years old, and had a special relationship with my father. Whenever his call came, she herself started talking to him by taking my phone. She was singing songs with him when we last talked that day," he added.
In an emotional tribute, Rushabh remembered his father as not just a leader of their family but of the entire state. He praised his father's principles, simplicity, and deep connect with the people of Gujarat, which he said still lives on in their hearts.
'He was not just a part of our family, but a part of all the families of Gujarat. He used to say that 'vyakti se bada dal, dal se bada desh.' Even today, his thoughts and principles are alive throughout Gujarat," he added.

He further thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their support since the incident on 12 June.
'Both of them came and met our family, and gave us a lot of love. We are thankful for their constant support," he added.
Ahmedabad Plane Crash
Vijay Rupani, 68, was among the 275 people killed when the London-bound Air India flight crashed into a hostel complex in Ahmedabad moments after it took off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12 afternoon. The deceased included 120 men, 124 women, and 16 children.
One person survived the tragedy. The lone survivor was identified as Indian-origin British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh who was returning to the UK with his brother Ajay Kumar Rakesh, 45, who was in a different row inside the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
Meanwhile, the preliminary report from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on the Air India crash was released on Saturday. While it has answered a critical question on what led to the crash just minutes after the flight took off from Ahmedabad airport—cutting off of fuel supply to the engines—it has left many unanswered questions.

Attacks on Indian migrants are against Ireland's values

Indians living in Ireland are contributing immensely to our economy, our education and health care sectors, our research institutions, and our cultural life. From IT professionals and scientists, to doctors, nurses, students and entrepreneurs, Indians are helping to shape our present and our future. Their contribution is not only recognised — it is appreciated and celebrated. That is why Ireland has been so stunned by a number of recent assaults on Indians living in Dublin, our capital city. These assaults have been widely reported, both in Ireland and India, and have rightly caused deep concern across both our nations. As Ireland's ambassador to India, I wish to express our strongest condemnation of these appalling and senseless acts. These attacks — carried out by a small number of young people fuelled by misinformation — are deeply at odds with the values of the Irish people. I understand that each incident reported to Ireland's national police service is being investigated rigorously, with a view to apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring that justice will be served for the victims. The Irish embassy in New Delhi and the Irish foreign ministry in Dublin are in close and continuous contact with the Indian embassy in Dublin to share updates and express our support for affected individuals. We understand the anxiety and concern that these recent incidents have caused, both among Indians living in Ireland and their families back home in India. We are taking this matter with the utmost seriousness. These mindless actions could not be further from the values Ireland holds dear. They have generated widespread outrage across Irish society. They are not representative of who the Irish are as a people or as a country. Following a recent assault on an Indian man in the Dublin suburb of Tallaght, the local community responded by holding a rally attended by hundreds of people showing their solidarity with their Indian neighbours. Shamrock Rovers, Ireland's largest and most successful football club, invited members of the Indian community as special guests to their UEFA Conference League match at Tallaght Stadium. This initiative sent a strong, unambiguous message: Hate has no home in Ireland. The gesture by Shamrock Rovers embodied the Ireland we know — a country rooted in decency, openness and respect. Ireland has long been a nation shaped by migration. Five million people live in Ireland, but around the world, 70 million people claim Irish heritage. We are a migrant nation. This history has made us deeply aware of the immigrant experience and instilled in us a lasting commitment to inclusion and empathy. We are proud of the growing Indian diaspora in Ireland and want to see them live in safety, prosperity, and with a sense of belonging. That is, I strongly believe, the experience of the overwhelming number of migrants, from India and elsewhere, in Ireland. Ireland has long prided itself on its warm welcome and hospitality. The overwhelming majority of Irish people welcome migrants into their society, workplaces, and homes. The emergence over recent years of a tiny — but sadly vocal — anti-immigrant movement, largely fuelled by online misinformation, is a new phenomenon for us. We are grappling with it. Thankfully, the vast majority of people utterly reject their attempts to sow division. There is virtually no public support for their manifesto of hate. The hateful actions of a few must never overshadow the goodwill of the many. Let us not allow the voices of division to drown out the voices of friendship, solidarity and respect. All mission-critical digital infrastructure, whether related to artificial intelligence or cloud computing -- fundamentally depends on semiconductor chips."When you are talking about a completely digital sovereignty, it starts at the chip level. Whether it is a complete AI stack or a complete cloud stack on which any mission-critical applications of government or enterprises run, it always starts from the ground level, which is the chip. From chip level, we end up making equipment," Sunil Gupta, Chair, ASSOCHAM National Council on Datacenter, told ANI on the sidelines of an event 'Sovereign Tech for India's Digital Transformation'. The event was organised by ASSOCHAM."Chips form the base, leading to the development of equipment, operating systems, datasets, models, and ultimately, applications. You start making operating systems, then you run in case of AI examples. You have data sets and then you have models and then you have applications. The government understands this whole stack, which needs to be completely owned by India. At the chip level, India has created a semiconductor mission so that India can design, fabricate, assemble and package its own chips in India itself," Gupta told India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) is aimed at ensuring full ownership of this stack. The mission aims to enable domestic capabilities in chip design, fabrication, assembly, and packaging."The semiconductor mission and the government's emphasis on it is a step in the very right direction. It is at the route of becoming a sovereign nation in terms of digital infrastructure," Gupta said."Starting has been done maybe with chips of 28 nanometers, but I am very sure once this mission starts, we will start manufacturing the most high-end two and three-nanometre chips also. As the Minister of IT also announced that within five years India can also expect its indigenous GPU, which is real sovereignty at the grassroots you are not dependent on a chip which is designed in the US and manufactured in Taiwan. India will be able to design and manufacture chips in India itself," he also spoke about India's efforts to widen its sources of rare earth metals amid export curbs by China."Prime Minister visited countries in Latin America and Africa recently.... India will have to be self-dependent on rare earth metals as these are used in manufacturing electronics products. This is another aspect on which the government is very serious about," he Pillai, founding member of Bharath Cloud, emphasised the significance of Digital India."It is an economic and security story and having everything in house is very important.
