Two booked for defrauding Rs 45 lakh from woman promising job to son
Vizhinjam police filed a case on the complaint of Usha Ambrose of Chowara at Adimalathura and booked Thanjavur native Venkitesh and Vizhinjam native Maneesh, 23, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 316 (2) for criminal breach of trust and 318 (4) for cheating.
According to the complainant, the accused provided her son a flight ticket to Iran from Mumbai. However, in the absence of a valid offer letter and visa, he was not allowed to fly.
"Maneesh was my daughter's classmate and the money was paid after he guaranteed the job at any cost. We travelled to Mumbai in April for my son to board the flight. However, the accused did not provide the offer letter and visa, despite us requesting several times.
Finally, I asked the accused to return my money, but Venkitesh claimed that he did not receive any. Maneesh then challenged me to move legally to get the money.
He even behaved rudely with me. We paid him the money trusting him, but he cheated us," said Usha.
Vizhinjam police said the accused were summoned to the station to verify the allegation. "We contacted Venkitesh over the phone and told him to appear in person. The probe is on to check their involvement in other visa fraud cases as well," said police.

The Karnataka Police investigation into a cyber fraud case, in which a victim lost Rs 3.80 lakh, has resulted in the solving of 29 cases across 11 states, involving the siphoning of Rs 40 crore. The police arrested Hardeep Singh, 40, a resident of Patna in Bihar, on July 12 after finding through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) that his accounts were allegedly involved in these cases, including the biggest fraud where a victim from Tamil Nadu lost Rs 9 crore. The Uttara Kannada CEN police registered a case on October 23 last year, when a person named Raphael Fernandes from Karwar filed a complaint stating that his brother, Wilson Fernandes, had lost Rs 3.80 lakh to cyber fraudsters. According to the complaint, he had received a call from someone claiming to be from the police department that there was a courier in his name, which contained the banned narcotic substance MDMA. After someone posed as a Mumbai crime branch police officer, Fernandes allegedly transferred money to fraudsters. The police brought the accused to Karwar after arresting him in Bihar. A probe revealed that his accounts were used not just for digital arrests but also for investment frauds and that he was part of a larger nexus, said a police officer. During the investigation, it was revealed that Singh allegedly had eight savings accounts and two current accounts in his name, which were used to siphon huge amounts of money from fraudsters. He received more than Rs 1 crore as commission for it, said a police officer. B Ashwini, Deputy SP of Uttara Kannada CEN police station, said, 'Upon checking, we found that he was running a small jewellery shop, often known as a one-gram gold shop. He had a GST number for his shop and also had a Udyam certificate issued by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), which helped him to open current accounts as well.' In Tamil Nadu, Rs 9.09 crore was siphoned off, in Andhra Pradesh, Rs 2.47 crore, in Bengaluru's Marathahalli, Rs 80 lakh, and in Pulikeshi Nagar, Bengaluru, Rs 74.60 lakh, the police said. A police officer said Singh attempted to bribe the police, claiming he had done so previously to avoid detection.

Jharkhand: Maoist with Rs 5 lakh bounty killed; CRPF jawan martyred in gunfight accorded emotional farewell
Ranchi: CRPF jawan Praneswar Koch of the 209 CoBRA Battalion, who was martyred in an encounter with Maoists in the dense Birhordera forest of Bokaro district's Gomia area, was given a solemn and emotional farewell at the CRPF 133 Battalion headquarters in Ranchi on Wednesday evening. Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar led the tributes, laying a wreath on the mortal remains of the brave soldier. In his address, the Governor said, 'The supreme sacrifice of Jawan Praneswar Koch will not go in vain. His courage during the anti-Maoist operation will always be remembered. Our heartfelt condolences to his family. It is because of brave soldiers like him that Maoist activity has declined in the state.' He also expressed confidence that Maoism would be completely eradicated in the coming months. Several top officials of the state government and police department paid homage to the martyr, including Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari, Home Secretary Vandana Dadel, DGP Anurag Gupta, and IG Operations Dr Michael Raj S. They laid floral tributes and observed a moment of silence in honour of the fallen soldier. The encounter took place on Wednesday morning during a joint search operation by CoBRA and CRPF units, following Intelligence inputs about Maoist presence in the forest area of Gomia. As the forces moved in, Maoists opened fire, prompting a retaliatory operation. In the gunfight, a Maoist commander, with a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head, was killed. The deceased has been identified as Kunwar Manjhi, also known as Sahdev Manjhi. During the operation, CRPF jawan Praneswar Koch was martyred, and a local villager tragically lost his life in the crossfire between the Maoists and security personnel. DGP Gupta, addressing the media, expressed sorrow over the loss of lives. He stated, 'We are deeply saddened by the martyrdom of our jawan and the death of a villager. However, it has been resolved that any Maoist who refuses to surrender will be dealt with decisively.' Hailing from Kokrajhar district of Assam, Praneswar Koch was remembered by CRPF officials as a courageous and committed soldier who never wavered in the face of danger. 'He was known for his sense of responsibility and fearlessness,' an officer said. His body will be sent to his native village in Assam, where he will be cremated with full state honours. DGP Gupta further revealed that 22 Maoists have been killed in encounters so far this year. 'We continue to urge those still active to surrender. Many have already laid down arms. Under the Jharkhand government's surrender policy, those who choose to return to the mainstream are placed in open jails and provided with financial assistance, educational support for their children, and help with rehabilitation,' he said. He emphasised that while the government welcomes those who renounce violence, it will respond firmly to those who continue to bear arms.

Illegal stay of foreign nationals in madrasa in Nandurbar: Maha govt orders ATS probe
Mumbai: Minister of State for Home, Pankaj Bhoyar, informed the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Wednesday that the Home Department has started an investigation into the Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom, a religious education institution through the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) after it was revealed that two Yemeni citizens were illegally residing in its madrasa in Akkalkuwa in Nandurbar district. Chief Minister Fadnavis has instructed the handing over of this matter to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for investigation as the institution's turnover is worth Rs 728 crore. Minister Bhoyar said that the Home Department has also handed over this matter to the Charity Commissioner for investigation, while replying to a Calling Attention Motion moved by member Devendra Kothe. Even after the visas of people from Yemen expired on February 19, 2016, they were staying in the madrasa of the Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom till now. Therefore, Kothe demanded that the recognition of this madrasa be cancelled and alleged that this organisation has seized the lands of tribals and has committed a scholarship scam too. Responding to this, Minister Bhoyar said that two Yemeni citizens were staying in the madrasa even after their visas expired and when the police came to know about this, a case was registered and they were arrested. The founder and president of the organisation were also arrested, but later they were granted bail. The organisation was receiving foreign aid, so the state government has filed a complaint with the Centre. Minister Bhoyar said that the investigation will also be carried out with regard to allegations of grabbing tribal land and committing scholarship scams. 'How did Yemeni citizens get Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, birth certificates, school leaving certificates here?' asked MLA Harish Pimple, demanding that the officials who issued these certificates without verifying the documents be suspended and a case be registered. Responding to this, the minister said that if the officials have done so, after investigating the matter, action will be taken against them. MLA Gopichand Padalkar raised the issue claiming that this institution also has a medical college with a capacity of 60 students, but they do not have patients and bogus admissions are shown. He also raised the question of whether a search drive would be conducted in all the madrasas in Maharashtra to check who lives there? The minister replied that information will be sought from the Medical Education Department regarding the medical college of the Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom.
