A woman in Bengaluru has allegedly killed her pet dog and kept its decomposing body hidden in her apartment for days, in what appears to be a case of occult ritualistic accused, Triparna Paik, originally from West Bengal, allegedly slit the throat of her Labrador four days ago. She then wrapped the body in cloth and kept it inside her apartment in disturbing incident came to light after residents complained of a foul stench emanating from the building. When officials from the Bengaluru civic body (BBMP) arrived to investigate, Triparna resisted their entry and even threatened to commit suicide, prompting police intervention. Inside the apartment, authorities discovered the decomposed body of one dog and two other dogs in a state of extreme neglect. Two Labradors were rescued from the flat. Triparna, who previously owned four Labradors, had reportedly lost another one four months prior. The apartment was also adorned with photos of deities and puja items, leading to concerns about the ritualistic nature of the post-mortem report confirmed the dog had died approximately four days earlier. Officials noted that the sealed condition of the flat and lack of ventilation had caused the unbearable stench, raising health concerns for other residents.A case has been registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). CHENNAI: The National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognisance of a sexual harassment case involving a 20-year-old woman intern at the Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT ) Madras. The Commission Chairperson, Vijaya Rahatkar, wrote to the Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu , urging a fair and time-bound investigation under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The incident occurred on the IIT-Madras campus on June 25 around 9.15 pm, when the student was walking alone. A food court employee allegedly accosted her and sexually harassed her. The woman managed to escape and raised an alarm, prompting campus security personnel to intervene and detain the suspect. He was later remanded in judicial custody. New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): The Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted a godown in Uttam Nagar's Jivan Park, where illegal Chinese manja was being stored, as per officials. The police on Friday seized a large quantity of illegal Chinese manja, and the godown owner, identified as Raju, was also arrested. In a separate case, the Delhi Police apprehended Areeb Khan, a supplier of illegal Chinese manja, from the Kamla Market area, where he was reportedly supplying the illegal manja to local shopkeepers. A case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections and the Environment Protection Act in both incidents, stated officials. Meanwhile, on June 14, the Delhi Police Crime Branch dismantled an extortion racket targeting transporters and animal traders operating in the Gazipur Mandi transport area. It has arrested three accused and recovered illegal weapons, including single-shot pistols and live rounds, besides two cars and a scooty which was used to carry out criminal activities. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora stated that the Anti-Gangster Squad (AGS) had been actively working to curb the activities of criminals and extortionists operating in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). As per the Delhi Police release, intelligence inputs indicated that a group led by Pawan Kumar was systematically intimidating and extorting money from transporters and animal traders in the mandi area. Acting on a tip-off about the movement of a criminal from the group identified as Ravinder Kumar, the police laid a trap at Kakrola Nala Road. Ravinder, who was intercepted in a car, was found in possession of an illegal single-shot pistol and one live round. A case under Section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Crime Branch police station. During interrogation, Ravinder Kumar revealed that Pawan Kumar facilitated the distribution of firearms to gang members to carry out extortion activities. Pawan Kumar was subsequently apprehended, and a loaded single-shot pistol was recovered from him. Pawan Kumar confessed to the police of having recruited over eight individuals into his syndicate, tasking them with identifying and intercepting transporters and animal traders along various routes. The extorted money was often collected through online payments from animal traders. According to police, the gang intimidated victims by threatening them with action from an organisation that works to prevent cruelty to animals. The accused also revealed the names and mobile numbers of several victims, who are being traced as part of the investigation. (ANI)

NCW Chairperson Vijay Rahatkar has written to the Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, seeking a fair and time-bound investigation under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The NCW also directed the authorities concerned to ensure that the survivor receives immediate medical and psychological support, the commission said in a post on X. On Wednesday (June 25, 2025), Kotturpuram police arrested a 22-year-old youth, a staffer at the food court on the campus, on charges of sexually harassing the student. According to police sources, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when the survivor was walking alone on campus. She managed to escape from the attacker's clutches and raised an alarm. The security personnel on duty responded quickly, came to her aid, and apprehended the suspect, who was later handed over to the police. The police arrested the youth who has been identified as Roshan Kumar, 22, of Maharashtra, a contractual employee of a vendor operating on the varsity campus.

A 24-year-old Panipat resident, on a sightseeing trip to Chandigarh, was attacked with a brick and robbed of his mobile phone, wallet and gold bangle near the Sector 27/28 dividing road during the early hours of Thursday. Following the attack, Nitish was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, for treatment. (Shutterstock) The victim, Nitish Kadian, a resident of Sector 25, Panipat, told police that after visiting La Villa Club late at night, he was waiting for a cab. An unidentified man approached him on the pretext of a conversation and suddenly snatched his iPhone 16 from his pocket and fled towards the Sector 27/28 dividing road. Nitish chased the accused, but the attacker turned back, picked up a brick from the roadside, and struck Nitish on the head multiple times, causing him to fall to the ground. Bleeding and in a state of daze, Nitish was unable to resist as the accused stole his brown wallet and a gold bangle before fleeing the scene. Following the attack, Nitish was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, for treatment. After being declared fit for a statement by the duty emergency medical officer, he reiterated the details of the attack to the police and confirmed he could recognise the assailant if presented before him. The Sector 26 police have registered an FIR under Section 309(6) (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against an unidentified person. Complainant Bimlendu Shekhar Vats, a resident of SBI Officers Society, Sector 49D, said he was on his way to a park when two unidentified youngsters came on a bike, snatched his chain and sped towards Sector 50. Shaken by the sudden attack, the victim was unable to note down the motorcycle's registration number. A case under Section 304 (2) (snatching) and 3(5) (criminal acts done by several persons) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, was registered against two unidentified persons.
