Chelsea land transfer boost as £21.5m deal agreed with Premier League team

Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market this summer and after wrapping up deals for Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, the Blues are set to cash in on one of their goalkeepers Djordje Petrovic is set to remain in the Premier League with the Serbian goalkeeper set to join Sunderland in a transfer which will net Chelsea a cool £21.5m. Petrovic, 25, caught the eye on loan with the Blues' sister team, Strasbourg, in France last year and is keen to get out and play regular football rather than return to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea already being linked with several keepers this summer. ‌ The Serbia international was left out of the Blues squad for the Club World Cup in order to seek a move ahead of the new season for that reason. ‌ And Petrovic is set to find a new home with Sunderland pushing to get a deal done for the former New England Revolution star. As reported by The Telegraph, Sunderland are close to sealing a £21.5m swoop to bring Petrovic in following their promotion via the Championship play-offs back in May. Should they get a deal over the line with Chelsea, Petrovic would become the latest big-money addition to join the Black Cats, who are splashing the cash in an attempt to survive next season. They are also closing in on a £17.3m deal for the Saint-Gilloise midfielder, Noah Sadicki, who underwent a medical on Wednesday. They have already wrapped a permanent deal for loan star Enzo Le Fee and signed Habib Diarra for a club-record fee. Petrovic will compete with Anthony Patterson for the No.1 berth at the Stadium of Light. ‌ Join the debate! Should Chelsea sell Petrovic this summer? Let us know here He originally signed for Chelsea two years ago and made 31 first-team appearances under Mauricio Pochettino during his maiden season at Stamford Bridge. But Robert Sanchez has since been installed as the Blues' first-choice keeper under Enzo Maresca, with Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders also in the building. Chelsea attempted to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan before the Club World Cup before talks with the Italian giants over a switch for the Frenchman broke down. It remains to be seen if they will rekindle that interest - or target another keeper - before the start of the new season, though reports since have indicated that Maresca is content with his current goalkeeping options. Jamie Vardy tells Rangers his non negotiable as Conor Coady transfer roadblock cleared and £10m talks go public

The search for a striker is near the top of the agenda for Russell Martin this summer In-demand Jamie Vardy has reportedly told suitors he wants to be a regular starter for his next club with Rangers "keen" on a deal. The Light Blues are said to be among the club chasing the 38-year-old after his Leicester exit with the new owners Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises eyeing a landmark deal. ‌ And with with both Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers potentially heading for the exit, a new striker is also in the minds of the new owners. ‌ The Daily Mail report that the Ibrox side are still "keen" on the 38-year-old - who is weighing up his options, with Burnley the latest club to show "interest" in the Premier League legend. The Telegraph report that the striker has reportedly told the his representatives to find him a club where he is "a regular starter, or a player who comes off the bench for one of the bigger teams." Conor Coady looks set to follow Joe Rothwell and Enzo Fernandez in the door at Ibrox - after boss Russell Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell sealed a double signing on Monday. And the Leicester Mercury report that the Foxes' owners will not wait to appoint a manager to allow the England international to leave. While thy are "unlikely" to sign any stars and exit for Coady is viewed as "particularly helpful" as he is among one of the club's high-earners and has entered the final year of his contract. ‌ Wolves defender Nasser Djiga is reportedly also in talks over a move to Rangers - just days after boss Vitor Pereira went public with his advice for the out of favour defender. Djiga arrived at Molineux from Serbian outfit Red Star Belgrade in February this year for a £10million fee on a five-year deal but has struggled for regular game time. ‌ After managing just 65 minutes across his five appearances for Wolves in the Premier League and one FA Cup start, Pereira refused to guarantee the 22-year-old more minutes next term. Speaking earlier this week to the Express and Star, the boss said: "We'll see if it's possible. "For me, football is a competition. We need competition inside the team. If me and you play in the same position and I'm playing better than you, the coach must decide. It doesn't mean you don't have quality, but you need to wait for your turn." ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. Thursday's briefing: Euro 2025 hosts make losing start and Reds reject Diaz bid

Players' union boss Maheta Molango has said tension between his members and the game's authorities has 'escalated' over the last four years, and Liverpool have turned down an approach from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz. 🇳🇴 Norway come from behind to get the win in Basel 💪 #WEURO2025 — UEFA Women's EURO 2025 (@WEURO2025) July 2, 2025 Julia Stierl's second-half own goal gifted Norway a barely-deserved 2-1 win against hosts Switzerland in their opening European Women's Championship match in Basel. Switzerland defender Stierl turned the ball into her own net four minutes after Norway captain Ada Hegerberg's superb header had cancelled out Nadine Riesen's first-half opener for the Swiss in front of a 34,063 crowd at St Jakob-Park. Hegerberg missed a second-half penalty for Norway, who were out-played by the hosts, while it is the first time a host nation at a European Women's Championship have lost their opening match. Katariina Kosola's 70th-minute goal was enough to end Finland's 16-year wait for a Euros win as they won 1-0 against Iceland, who had Hildur Antonsdottir sent off for two yellow cards. Players' union chief executive Maheta Molango believes the threat of players striking over workload has not gone away and says tensions between his members and competition organisers have 'escalated' over the last four years. Some of the world's top stars are currently involved in the Club World Cup in the United States, often training and playing in high temperatures on the back of long domestic seasons and with new campaigns just around the corner. Manchester City midfielder Rodri said last year players were 'close' to striking over the demands being placed on them and when asked if a strike was still on the table, Molango said: 'It comes to a stage when you expect the authorities to look after you and they don't look after you. 'When you go to those pre-season meetings with other stakeholders, you can see the tension. I've been doing that now for four years and the tension has been escalating.' Liverpool have rejected an approach from Bayern Munich for Colombia forward Luis Diaz. The PA news agency understands the Premier League champions have no intention of selling the 28-year-old, who played a key role in Liverpool's title success last term. Bayern are the second club to have registered an interest this summer in Diaz, who joined Liverpool from Porto in 2022 and has two years left on his contract, with Barcelona having already been rebuffed. Also on Wednesday, Bayer Leverkusen completed the signing of Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah in a £35million deal. Public Statement on behalf of Bond Group Investments & Jason Whittingham.#UTS 🦐 — Morecambe FC (@MorecambeFC) July 2, 2025 Morecambe owner Jason Whittingham has sacked the club's board of directors a day after they announced they would put the club into administration amid a protracted takeover process. On Tuesday the club's board had demanded that Whittingham's Bond Group Investments complete a sale to Panjab Warriors – a deal first announced at the start of June – and then said they would call in administrators on Wednesday morning after a 6pm deadline was missed. But Whittingham issued a statement on Wednesday, saying: 'Bond Group Investments has started the process to dismiss the board of directors with immediate effect in order that we can take control over the situation giving us the required additional time to ensure that the club has the best chance to avoid administration.' World champions Spain launch their bid for glory at Euro 2025 as they take on Portugal in Bern (8pm) in their opening match. Fellow Group B rivals Belgium and Italy face each other in their first game in Sion (5pm).
