Monica Lennon MSP said "enough is enough" as she paid tribute to tragic East Kilbride teenager Kayden Moy.
The 16-year-old was found wounded at Irvine Beach on Saturday night and was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital but died on Sunday morning - a "heartbreaking tragedy" the politician said "will stun East Kilbride and Scotland".
The Central Scotland Labour MSP was among local politicians who paid tributes online following the shock death.
Emergency services were called to the beauty spot in Ayrshire on Saturday evening after receiving reports of a seriously injured youth.
Sadly 16-year-old Kayden Moy died in Crosshouse Hospital on Sunday, May 18.
A 17-year-old male has now been arrested following the incident as the investigation continues.
Kayden's devastated dad Paul Moy led heartbreaking tributes to the youngster yesterday saying: "My first born son, my big boy, my best friend, my main man, my everything, rest easy my boy."
Commenting on the tragedy, Ms Lennon said: "It's devastating that 16-year-old Kayden Moy went to the beach and never came home, robbed of his life and future.
"I extend my sincere condolences to Kayden's heartbroken family and friends. This heartbreaking tragedy will stun East Kilbride and Scotland. Enough is enough."
MSP for East Kilbride Collette Stevenson posted: "This is absolutely tragic. My heart goes out to Kayden's family and friends. Police are appealing for witnesses and are carrying out intensive investigations into the incident."
South Lanarkshire Council Leader and Scottish Parliamentary election candidate for East Kilbride, Joe Fagan wrote: "This is awful news. Our community is shocked and will be thinking of Kayden's family.
"Police have set up a website that allows members of the public to send information directly to their Major Investigation Team. The portal can be accessed at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/SCOT25S22-PO1."
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Following enquiries into the death of a 16-year-old male on a beach in Irvine on Saturday, May 17, officers have arrested a 17-year-old male.
"Enquiries into the death are ongoing."

'Predatory' sex beast jailed after raping teenage girl in Inverness

Cameron Huggins was caged at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday. A remorseless sex offender has been jailed for four years for raping a teenage girl. Cameron Huggins was caged after forcing himself on the youngster in Inverness. The 22-year-old abused the teen, who can't be named for legal reasons, in April 2023. He insisted he was innocent and went on trial over the claims. ‌ ‌ But he was convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and returned to the same court yesterday, Wednesday, July 2, 2025, to learn his fate. He was sentenced to four years in prison over the serious sexual assault, placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life, and made the subject of a Non-Harassment Order (NHO). Carer struck off after he was caught hitting disabled man on camera

A social care worker caught assaulting a disabled man on camera has been struck off the care register. Michael Gitongu hit the man multiple times in February 2023 while he was employed as a support worker by Clinical 24 Staffing Limited in Glasgow. The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) said Gitongu slapped the man's torso, forcefully hit him twice on the arm, hit him with a large exercise ball which he threw directly at him, repeatedly and forcefully hit the sofa he was sitting on, and made threatening gestures towards the man in an attempt to frighten him. Gitongu was convicted at Perth Sheriff Court in July 2024, for the same incident of assaulting a man by seizing him on the body, pushing him on the body, making threatening gestures, seizing him by the body, and pulling him. The court determined the assault was 'aggravated by prejudice relating to disability', according to the SSSC. Gitongu has been formally struck off the care register and banned from working in the industry again. The regulatory body for Scottish social work said the assault was caught on camera and verified by a witness who saw Gitongu hit or slap the other side of the sofa where the care user was sitting. 'The video evidence is clear and compelling,' the SSSC said. 'This observed behaviour by [Gitongu], a large man towards a [information redacted] on the face of it is abusive and bullying behaviour.' The report said Gitongu was 'not interacting with [the care user] in a positive manner' before the assault. 'You provoked [the man] by flicking the lights and raising your arms to scare and intimidate him. The assaults were clear in the footage,' the SSSC told Gitongu. The regulator said there is 'no explanation' as to why Gitongu's training, or lack of it, would justify this behaviour. 'The behaviour can only be described as being physically and emotionally abusive towards AA, with his rights and dignity being dismissed by you,' the report said. 'This behaviour occurred in AA's own home, a place where he should feel safe. You abused the trust placed in you to care for a highly vulnerable individual.' The SSSC concluded it had no choice but to strike Gitongu from the care register.
