Children in Wales take part in mass singalong for Euro 2025
The event, known as the Wales' Women's Euro Singalong 2025, took place on Wednesday, July 2, and involved 1,051 primary schools across Wales. It was organised by Urdd Gobaith Cymru in partnership with the Football Association of Wales, S4C, and Boom Cymru. Siân Lewis, chief executive of the Urdd, said: "The Urdd's #FelMerch campaign aims to inspire and empower young women and girls throughout the country, so we've jumped at the chance to show our support to the Welsh women's squad by arranging a nationwide singalong, with the help of our partners. "Our singalong is a fantastic opportunity for pupils at Welsh and English-medium schools alike to come together, be proud of their Welsh heritage, and feel part of the national football team's campaign." The event, held at 10:30am, gave primary school children the chance to celebrate and support the Welsh women's football team. Children sang a selection of Welsh songs, including a new anthem, Ymlaen (Onwards), written by singer-songwriter Caryl Parry Jones and producer Branwen Munn. Singer and presenter Aleighcia Scott, who appeared as a coach on S4C's Y Llais, said: "It's a momentous occasion for the Welsh women to be competing at the Euros for the first time, and I can't wait to take part in the Urdd's singalong to celebrate this historical moment and bring Welsh children along on the journey. "It's been an amazing journey for me learning Welsh so far, and taking part in events like the Urdd's singalong makes me feel like the Welsh language does belong to me, and it can belong to all the children of Wales too." In Lucerne, Switzerland, where Wales will play their opening game, the Urdd is also showcasing contemporary Welsh folk talent as part of its #FelMerch campaign. The campaign aims to inspire and empower young women and girls to stay active and overcome barriers to participation in sport. The Urdd will also host a National Female #FelMerch Sports Conference at Cardiff City Stadium on November 13 as part of the tournament's legacy. The event follows the success of previous conferences designed to support and empower women and girls through sport. The Urdd's Euro 2025 projects are supported by the Welsh Government's Euro 2025 Partner Support Fund.

American tourist visits 'tiny city' in UK – and one thing baffles him
An American man who is travelling around the UK recently shared a video of his visit to a 'tiny' town in England - but locals were quick to correct him about his misunderstanding and confusion The UK, including over 38 million visitors in 2023, is a prime holiday spot for globe-trotters, with many opting to experience the hustle and bustle of London. Yet, there are those like American hiker N. E. Johnson who have embarked on journeys beyond the capital, including his recent hiking trip in picturesque Wales and an unexpected adventure in Chester. After traversing the Welsh landscapes, Johnson yearned for tranquillity and set his sights on what he believed to be a quaint English retreat. Selecting Chester off the map for some well-deserved rest, he anticipated quiet days filled with reading and writing, away from the tourist frenzy. His impressions of Chester were soon proven wrong when he discovered the city's hidden gems. In his video, he began by sharing his initial thoughts: "Okay, here's what I love about the UK," admiring the charm of Chester, an unheard-of destination prior to his visit. Johnson had hoped for a serene stay post-hiking, eyeing a nondescript hostel to unwind in without the usual rush to museums or attractions. However, as Johnson noted, the small town defied expectations with its vibrant scene: "Well, I was right that it's a tiny little town. I was wrong that there would be nothing here because I've already found two museums, the main shopping area is enormous this is two tiered if you can - there's like a promenade up about the regular street levels. Still shopping in ancient buildings." Chester, with its tiered shopping promenades and historic marvels, swiftly undid his plans for a leisurely week, unveiling instead its bustling town centre and enchanting past, much to his surprise. Strolling through the bustling high street, Johnson was in awe, noting: "This shopping area just goes on and on and on," as he ascended stairs leading to more retailers. He was struck by the remarkable variety of shops, commenting on the fascinating blend of 'normal' stores alongside distinctly 'cool' and 'unique' boutiques showcasing items unseen in his native US. "It seems like a weird niche market that wouldn't be able to support a storefront," Johnson remarked while filming a Christmas-themed shop amid his tour. Panning over to an antique store, he couldn't help but express his astonishment, "Also, oh my God, so many antique stores." But it wasn't just the eclectic retail experience that caught Johnson off guard; the sight of a 'Roman soldier' casually strolling by left him puzzled. Curiosity piqued, he shared: "Not sure what that's about, but, it was too crowded and I couldn't catch up with him." The town's thriving creative scene was another unexpected delight for Johnson as he wandered past numerous art galleries and studios, clearly impressed with the local support for artists. "Like seriously, how does the economics here work," he pondered aloud, his camera trained on yet another art outlet. His tour continued, encapsulating his fascination with a town barely noticeable on a map yet brimming with attractions superior to anything he encountered stateside. His exploration led him to the historic treasures of the locale, such as walkable Roman walls designed to navigate above street-level throngs. Among all, it was the town's 'epic' cathedral that stood out as the crown jewel, captivating Johnson with its grandeur. "Okay, being a fan of the fantasy genre normally, like, I see castles and they're not as cool and big as you'd expect," he said. "And then you see something like this, you just like 'holy shirt'. What the fork do you even do with a building this big?" He continued to question his audience whether every 'tiny town' in Britain was akin to Chester, or if he had fortuitously stumbled upon a small town that was a tourist favourite, likening it to Bath. Brits were quick to jump into the comments section of his video, keen to set him straight on his misconceptions. "Chester has a population of 100,000 people. It is by no means a 'tiny little unknown town'," one user clarified. "If you say tiny town to a local they'll correct you, Chester is a small city," another corrected. A third person chimed in: "Sometimes it takes someone from outside the UK to make you realise the UK isn't so bad. hope you enjoy your trip."

Oasis fan shows off huge reunion tattoo 12 hours after they came off stage
One Oasis fan went to extreme measures to become what he hopes is the first person to get a tattoo of the reunion tour after selecting a legendary first night image from Cardiff An Oasis mega fan wasted no time getting the tattoo of his dreams - hours after an iconic photo of the band's comeback was taken. The diehard was so desperate to mark the reunion that he had booked in to get inked the morning after their first performance in Cardiff. It is understood to be the first Oasis tour tattoo and the fan, identified only as Wayne, was determined to make his choice something special. Picking the moment once-warring bothers Liam and Noel Gallagher embraced in front of the crowd on opening night, a photo of the cuddle was swiftly transformed into a leg tattoo. Artist Alfie Ware showed off his incredible work on his Instagram page, and it's fair to say it went down a storm. "Wrapped up the last piece of Wayne's Oasis leg sleeve this morning, this shot's from their first gig back together last night," he wrote on his page, which displays some of the tats undertaken at Studio S2 in Alvechurch, Worcestershire. "Probably the first to get this photo tattooed as we started it 12 hours after it was taken. Was an absolute pleasure." Alfie's followers were understandably impressed by his attention to detail, and the image Wayne had selected. "That was so quick!" one told him. Another of the group's fans put: "Would get that exact sleeve myself!" Everyone concerned hopes the ink stands the test of time - and there's no big sibling fall out. When Liam and Noel took to the stage in Cardiff walking out hand in hand, it was a sight many of their original fans thought they would never see in their lifetime - so in order to maintain their amicable reunion, it has emerged that the brothers were advised to stay in separate hotels for the first gig of their world tour, in a desperate bid to avoid a clash. The brothers, who are famed for their volatile relationship, were placed in hotels half an hour away from each other. According to The Sun on Sunday, the famous duo skipped partying after their first night in the Welsh city and were driven away from the Principality Stadium at approximately 10.30pm. A source told the publication: "The atmosphere was absolutely electric and Liam and Noel were delighted with the first night. They were a bit shell-shocked." They added: "It went better than anyone could have imagined. The lead up has all been carefully orchestrated, as everyone knows how delicate and fragile Liam and Noel's relationship is." The insider close to the band continued: "They don't want to over-expose themselves to each other. Having separate residences is the best option so they can relax in their own space." They explained: "They stayed in separate locations outside the city around half an hour away from each other." "They're happy families at the moment and they want to keep it that way. Liam has been off the booze for a while and sounds better than ever," they added. According to the source, Liam is determined to get eight hours sleep a night and is steering clear of alcohol and partying. Fans were left in awe as the band, who were once synonymous with the stereotypical rock and roll lifestyle, belted out their iconic hits including Wonderwall, Stand By Me, Live Forever and Half The World Away. And it seems a contributing factor in Liam's clean living lifestyle is his partner Debbie Gwyther. Get Oasis updates straight to your WhatsApp! The source continued: "Debbie protects him from all the hype so he doesn't get carried away. They've swapped out Guinness for zero per cent alcohol beers and keep the vibe backstage as chilled as possible." Partying in the crows were Noel's daughter Anais, 25 and her mum Meg Matthews, 59. Liam's sons Lennon, 25 and Gene, 24, were also at Friday's gig. It has been reported that the Cardiff gig was emotional for their children who never thought the day would arrive when they would see their dad on stage as Oasis. And Anais was reportedly a "driving force in helping to reunite the brothers who at the time showed no intention of making the peace.
