Nothing final yet on Sulawesi Sea issue with Indonesia, PM tells Dewan Rakyat
The Prime Minister said that although the International Court of Justice (ICJ) had decided in 2002 that Ligitan and Sipadan belonged to Malaysia, there was still a dispute over the maritime borders at Blocks ND6 and ND7 of the Sulawesi Sea owing to conflicting intertidal claims.
"We are friends with Indonesia and are (negotiating) with them on the issue," he told Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (July 22).
Although he had met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on four previous occasions, Anwar said talks between them on several issues, including jointly developing the disputed maritime areas, were informal.

"We have been invited to Jakarta on July 29 for talks, and the Sabah Chief Minister has been invited to be part of the delegation because it involves his state's borders.
"Sabah has not given its agreement (to any proposals) and neither have we (Putrajaya).
"Talks have not been finalised and nothing has been agreed upon... (they) remain merely proposals," he added.

Kiandee wanted to know the details of a purported "agreement" between Malaysia and Indonesia in 2023 on the maritime border issue involving Blocks ND6 and ND7 which contain, on the high end of estimates, about 1.4 trillion cubic metres of gas and 760 million barrels of oil reserves.
Anwar clarified that details of the proposed joint development between Malaysia and Indonesia to develop the areas were not made public owing to a non-disclosure clause because both Blocks ND6 and ND7 – referred to by Indonesia as the Ambalat Block – were not part of the 2023 agreement.
He said Malaysia remains firm on its sovereignty over the two areas.

"Should we choose armed conflict to resolve the dispute, or negotiation?
"We chose negotiation, as we are both friendly nations," he added.
He also told Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) that efforts have been made to beef up border security between the two nations, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak.
This includes the acquisition of new patrol vessels for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and an additional RM40mil allocation for the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).
Shahar had asked what was being done to improve border security in Sabah and Sarawak in light of the rapid development of Indonesia's new capital city, Nusantara, located in East Kalimantan.

No registration for RM100 cash aid, beware of scams, warns govt
Deputy finance minister Lim Hui Ying said the ministry has received complaints about fake links and messages claiming that registration is required to receive the cash aid. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The government has urged the public to be cautious of scams and other fraud attempts over the one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA). Speaking at an event in George Town, Penang, today, deputy finance minister Lim Hui Ying said the assistance does not require any application or registration whatsoever, Bernama reported. She said the amount will be credited directly into the MyKad of all Malaysians aged 18 and above starting Aug 31. 'We have received numerous inquiries about how to register for the RM100 SARA assistance. There have also been complaints about fake links and messages claiming that registration is required to receive the aid. 'These claims are false and dangerous. Do not click on any such links, they are scams. 'I want to stress that there is no need to apply or register for the RM100 cash aid, as it will be automatically credited to the recipients' MyKad,' she said. Lim, who is the MP for Tanjung, reassured the public that there is no cause for concern as everyone aged 18 and above will receive the cash aid. 'Only if they do not receive it after Aug 31 will we take further action and inform them accordingly,' she said. On July 23, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced several major initiatives by the government, including the one-off RM100 cash aid, the postponement of toll rate hikes on 10 highways, and a drop in the price of RON95 fuel to RM1.99 per litre. Lim also said the government is open to considering the inclusion of wet goods such as chicken, meat and fish under SARA. 'We continue to listen to feedback and suggestions regarding the list of items under SARA. There have been proposals to include wet items such as fish, meat and chicken. We will consider expanding the list when the time is right,' she told reporters. She said the government expanded the SARA initiative on May 1 to include household cleaning products, such as laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid. These are in addition to the existing categories covering basic food items, medicines, school supplies, and personal hygiene products. Their inclusion increased the number of product categories from 13 to 14, covering 90,000 types of goods. This decision was based on feedback received during the implementation of SARA earlier this year, she said.

Veteran journo: Actual dethroning of PMX needs greater momentum than July 26 ‘Turun Anwar' rally
STRIKE while the iron is hot. Saturday's PAS-inspired Turun Anwar (July26) rally alone – whether it attracted 300,000 as claimed by the party's mouthpiece HarakahDaily or Malaysiakini (25,000) and the police (18,000) – is insufficient to force Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to vacate his premiership. Henceforth, if the opposition is serious about forcing PMX to step down, they need 'to act quickly and in a serial manner' for 'a hot iron will not become a keris if it is truck only once'. 'They (the opposition) need to continue to build momentum from the Turun Anwar campaign especially when Anwar himself has 'challenged' them to do so,' penned veteran journalist and blogger Datuk A. Kadir Jasin in his latest Facebook post. 'He recently stated that he would not prevent any gathering or criticism of his leadership, including demands for him to resign as long as they are made democratically whether through elections or a no-confidence motion in Parliament. MADANI framework upholds moral values and national unity, says PM Anwar
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring Malaysia's development under the MADANI framework remains anchored in strong moral values and national unity. Speaking at the Majlis Ilmu MADANI event with Islamic scholars at Kompleks Seri Perdana, he stressed that while Malaysia embraces modern progress, Islamic principles must guide its future. 'We need to progress. We need to ensure that there is peace and political stability, to craft an economic move forward at a faster pace, an accelerated pace. But at the same time, we are mindful of the fact that as Muslims, the issue of values is very pertinent,' Anwar said. The event was attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. International figures, including British musician Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens) and Islamic scholar Dr Shaykha Haifaa Younis, were also present. Addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Anwar urged the global community not to overlook the suffering of Palestinians. Dr Haifaa, who shared her experiences in Gaza, described how the resilience of its people deepened her spirituality. 'They taught me patience.
