Speaking at the Majlis Ilmu MADANI event with Islamic scholars at Kompleks Seri Perdana, he stressed that while Malaysia embraces modern progress, Islamic principles must guide its future.
'We need to progress. We need to ensure that there is peace and political stability, to craft an economic agenda...To move forward at a faster pace, an accelerated pace. But at the same time, we are mindful of the fact that as Muslims, the issue of values is very pertinent,' Anwar said.
The event was attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. International figures, including British musician Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens) and Islamic scholar Dr Shaykha Haifaa Younis, were also present.
Addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Anwar urged the global community not to overlook the suffering of Palestinians. Dr Haifaa, who shared her experiences in Gaza, described how the resilience of its people deepened her spirituality.
'They taught me patience. They taught me how to trust Allah, even when the world around you is falling apart,' she said.
Quran scholar Syeikh Dr Ahmad Aissa Hassan El-Ma'sarawi praised Anwar's monthly knowledge gatherings, likening them to the practices of early Islamic leaders.
He urged Muslims to adhere to Quranic teachings, stating, 'When we return to the Quran, Allah will protect us and we will be successful people.' - Bernama

Creative economy gets 13MP recognition
PUTRAJAYA: The orange economy is a developing sector that has the potential to contribute to Malaysia's economic growth, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil ( pic ). Fahmi, who is also the government spokesman, said the sector, which includes creative industries such as film, music and animation, was included in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) as a result of a proposal and engagement session between the Communications Ministry and the Economy Ministry. 'The engagement process has convinced the Economy Ministry that the orange economy is a developing sector, which has the potential to help economic growth,' he said at a post-Cabinet press conference here yesterday, Bernama reported. Meanwhile, Fahmi said the details of the specific benefits of the orange economy sector will be known when Budget 2026 is presented this October. During the tabling of the 13MP in Parliament on Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government was committed to driving the growth of the creative economy through the high-potential digital creative industry. According to Anwar, the Matching Fund and Joint Production Fund will be implemented to encourage joint investments between the government and the private sector in the production of world-class content. 'The country's digital creative industry has generated income of RM6.3bil, with an export value of RM850mil,' he said.

New regional centre strengthens China-Asean economic link

The centre serves as a bridge to engage with the Southeast Asia region to develop an international land-sea trade corridor. It also plays a critical role in sharing Hainan's development narrative, including tourism, commercial expansion and policy reforms. Hainan Daily Press Group deputy editor-in-chief Niu Xiaomin said Malaysia was chosen because it is home to a sizeable population of Chinese descendants, particularly the Hainanese community, which has preserved deep-rooted cultural ties and continues to uphold strong traditions. He hoped the stories of Malaysian Chinese and Chinese citizens could serve as a cultural bridge, strengthening people-to-people ties between the two nations while promoting mutual understanding and highlighting shared values across the region. He also said that Hainan would officially become a free trade port on Dec 18, allowing for some 74% of goods entering the island to enjoy zero-tariff benefits. "This marks a new starting point for Hainan's journey towards a higher level of openness to the outside world," he said at the launch of the HIMC–Asean Liaison Centre here on Friday (Aug 1). The event also saw the establishment of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor Asean Economic and Trade Station, and the Haifeng International Film and Television Base Asean Centre. Several agreements on media collaboration were also signed with Bernama, Nanyang Siang Pau and Kwong Wah Yit Poh to jointly produce programmes and conduct activities about Malaysia and Hainan. Partnerships were also established between HIMC and the Federation of Hainan Association Malaysia, Mila University and Lingshui Yingli Wanxiang Digital Media Industry. The HIMC–Asean Liaison Centre also serves as the Malaysia office for Guangxi International Communication Centre and the International Communication Centre of Guizhou Radio and TV Station.
