Lando Norris targets a much-needed win from pole at the Austrian Grand Prix
Lando Norris is targeting a win to boost his Formula 1 title hopes Sunday after qualifying on pole for the Austrian Grand Prix, his first race since colliding with teammate Oscar Piastri in Canada.
Norris was fastest by more than half a second in qualifying Saturday in a dominant display which seemed to come as a relief to the British driver who's often struggled to show his best pace in qualifying this year. Charles Leclerc starts second for Ferrari with teammate Lewis Hamilton fourth after an unexpectedly competitive day for the Italian team. Piastri leads Norris by 22 points in the standings and will be right behind his teammate on the grid after the Australian qualified third. Piastri had to abandon his last lap when Alpine's Pierre Gasly spun in front of him and said he was confident of having the pace to challenge on Sunday. Defending champion Max Verstappen, who's third in the standings, starts seventh on the grid after complaining of a lack of grip in qualifying.
Verstappen, third in the standings, starts seventh after reporting poor grip in qualifying.

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami exit Club World Cup after 4-0 loss to PSG in round of 16
The champions of Europe booted Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates out of the Club World Cup on Sunday. Paris Saint-Germain, Messi's former club and the team that won the Champions League final only a few weeks ago, contained one of the game's greatest players at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and routed Inter Miami 4–0 in the round of 16. Defensive struggles again plagued Miami, with all four of PSG's goals coming before halftime. An early injury to defender Noah Allen contributed to the team's problems, while goalkeeper Oscar Ustari continued to excel. Offensively, Messi and his forward line spent the majority of the first half in their own half. The second-half performance improved, but the team appeared to be overly reliant on a moment of Messi magic to help them advance. Inter Miami was the only Major League Soccer team to advance to the expanded tournament's knockout round. The team defied expectations with a 2–1 victory over Portuguese club FC Porto, which was heavily favored going into the match. That performance caught the attention of soccer fans around the world, as Miami became the first MLS team to beat a European club in an official competition. Messi exits the tournament with a perfect record of group stage advancement. The Argentine has never been eliminated in the group stage of an official tournament, whether playing for a club or his Argentina national team. Despite Sunday's loss, Miami's tournament play showed many positives as the team prepares to return to its MLS schedule. Besides the win over Porto, Miami also drew with Brazilian club Palmeiras, a team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition on Saturday. Miami is in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with an 8–3–5 record, 11 points behind first-place Philadelphia Union. Last season, Miami won the MLS Supporters' Shield for the league's best regular-season record.

F1 Champ Max Verstappen Says His 'Mentality Doesn't Change' After a Big Blow to His Title Defense
After days of speculation he might leave Red Bull for Mercedes, Max Verstappen got a closer look at a Mercedes car than he wanted. The defending Formula 1 champion's Austrian Grand Prix lasted less than half a lap as he was knocked out of the race by Mercedes driver and potential future teammate Kimi Antonelli. 'I think we try to do our best always. My mentality doesn't change. We have won a lot in the past. Sometimes you have to accept that you are not winning and we just try to do the best we can,' Verstappen told British broadcaster Sky Sports. Asked about what the incident meant for his title defense, he said: 'Hopefully then maybe people will not mention it too much anymore.' For all the latest headlines, follow our Google News channel online or via the app. It followed an eventful week for the four-time champion, who blamed a lack of grip for being off the pace in qualifying and seventh on the grid. Antonelli's teammate George Russell had suggested Thursday Verstappen may be holding talks with Mercedes on a possible future move. Verstappen remains third in the standings but is 61 points off leader Oscar Piastri. In past years, Verstappen and Red Bull have produced some of their best performances at the team's home race. It attracts thousands of orange-clad Dutch fans, and Verstappen has won at the Red Bull Ring five times. It was a rare mistake in an otherwise impressive season for 18-year-old Antonelli. He braked late, locked his rear wheels, and dived deep into a tight right-hand corner, spinning Verstappen around and ending both of their chances. 'I'm out. I got hit like crazy,' Verstappen told Red Bull over the radio. Verstappen waved to the crowd as his car was lifted away by a tractor and chatted with Antonelli as they walked away together. It was the first time Verstappen failed to score any points in a race in more than a year – since the Australian Grand Prix in March 2024. It ended a week of struggles at a track where he's won five times in F1 and capped a disastrous home Grand Prix for Red Bull. Rounding out a nightmare home race for Red Bull, Yuki Tsunoda hit Alpine's Franco Colapinto while fighting for 13th place and had to pit for a replacement front wing. The Japanese driver finished last and hasn't scored a point in four races.
