PHNOM PENH, April 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysians celebrated unity in diversity during Syawal, once again showcasing the colourful fabric of the nation's multi-ethnic society, even while living abroad.
And that was exactly what they expressed - unity and bonding - during the Eid celebration hosted by the Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh on Sunday.

Many braved the tropical heat to feast, mingle with their fellow brethren, and enjoy the generous hospitality of the Malaysian diplomats who toiled to organise a memorable evening.
'I believe that these programmes and activities are important to us as they provide opportunities for the Malaysian community here, including the embassy to meet up and engage with one another.
'Some activities are also designed specifically to positively impact the government-to-government, business-to-business, and people-to-people relations, to foster closer relations between Malaysia and Cambodia or to further promote Malaysia to Cambodians,' Malaysian Ambassador Shaharuddin Onn said in his welcoming speech at the event, which was held at the embassy's premises.
The embassy arranged a lavish spread of traditional Malaysian cuisine, featuring about 20 different stalls serving authentic dishes. The gathering, which saw over 300 people attend the celebration, ended with fireworks.
'With Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship this year, we will be organising several events together with the other ASEAN embassies here (Phnom Penh).
'We are adopting numerous approaches to achieve this — through conventional or traditional bilateral diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, food diplomacy and sports diplomacy,' said Shaharuddin.

Former EU Foreign Policy Chief Slams Bloc's Failure To Act On Israel's Human Rights Violations

BRUSSELS, July 16 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The European Council missed its chance this week to do something to stop Israel's 'war crimes' and genocide in Gaza, according to a former EU foreign policy chief, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. "@EUCouncil failed yesterday to take a decision on Israel's violation of the Association Agreement's Human Rights clause. But this is in itself a decision: not to punish Israel's continued war crimes and allow the genocide in Gaza to continue unabated," Josep Borrell wrote on X on Wednesday. The EU-Israel Association Agreement, which governs political and economic ties between the two parties, includes a binding clause requiring respect for human rights and democratic principles. Failure to comply with this clause can lead to sanctions or suspension of the agreement. bootstrap slideshow EU foreign ministers met on Monday and Tuesday to discuss growing concerns over Israel's attacks in Gaza, amid mounting civilian casualties and international calls for accountability. However, member states were unable to reach a consensus, resulting in no formal decision to suspend the agreement or impose sanctions. Borrell, who concluded his term as the EU's top diplomat last year, has been a vocal critic of Israel's attacks and has previously called for a review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which gives Tel Aviv preferential trade terms. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since late October 2023, killing over 58,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave and led to food shortages and the spread of diseases. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

Thailand commends Malaysia's effective ASEAN Chairmanship at 58th AMM

BANGKOK: Thailand has commended Malaysia, as the current ASEAN Chair, for successfully hosting a constructive 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) in Kuala Lumpur. The Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, Bolbongse Vangphaen, said Malaysia's chairmanship had effectively managed the series of meetings, which focused on highly positive and forward-looking agendas. 'I believe this meeting has essentially fulfilled its objective of promoting constructive and positive engagement among all major powers, while also advancing practical cooperation within the ASEAN region,' he said during a press briefing here on Wednesday. Bolbongse emphasised that the meeting was particularly timely in light of the current global context, marked by significant geopolitical and geoeconomic uncertainties. He noted that Thailand's Foreign Minister, Maris Sangiampongsa, reaffirmed the importance of multilateralism and an international order based on international law, which would contribute to regional peace, stability, and resilience. 'ASEAN, of course, seeks to maintain its strategic autonomy while simultaneously strengthening its external relations,' he added. Bolbongse further explained that one of the key issues raised by nearly all countries at the AMM was the growing threat of cybercrime and online scams. 'This is an issue that affects everyone in the region - it poses both economic and human security threats. 'Thailand has made it a national priority to address and combat these transboundary crimes, and the issue has received strong support from all participating countries,' he said. The 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings took place from July 8 to 11 under Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, held under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'. The series featured more than 20 ministerial-level meetings, involving ASEAN dialogue and se
