Nick Sirianni calls certain criticism of Jalen Hurts '(expletive)'

Yahoo15-07-2025
Is Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts a "supporting-cast merchant?" Has he been carried to success by his ultra-talented offensive line and the super-group of explosive play-makers the team has surrounded him with?
Not in his head coach's opinion.

"I think that's (expletive)," Sirianni said of the narrative, according to reports. "I mean, he plays the most important position in all sports, and it's the most ultimate team game there is. And what I admire about him is his selflessness of doing anything we need to do to win.
"Anybody who plays quarterback is going to want to throw it 50 times a game. But he'll do anything. If he has to throw 50 times a game, he's ready to do that. If he has to hand it off 50 times a game, he's ready to do that."
EAGLES FANS: Rams' Jared Verse says Philadelphia has top opponent fan base
As is often the case after a team wins the Super Bowl, the Eagles' quarterback has been the subject of criticism from fans and analysts alike.

The gravitational pull of running back Saquon Barkley's prowess moved Philadelphia's offensive focus toward its run game and away from the pass in 2024. Hurts' 361 pass attempts and 2,903 passing yards were both career-low marks since he took over as the Eagles' full-time starter in 2021.
Regardless of how it happened, the Eagles won the Super Bowl earlier this year. Hurts won Super Bowl MVP after completing more than 77% of his pass attempts and scoring three touchdowns – two in the air and one on the ground.

"Anytime I hear (criticism of Hurts), it's cool, it's like a nice debate thing that people like to have," Sirianni said. "And I get it, there's a lot of hours that TV shows and radio stations have to fill to be able to fill that debate. I understand that, but we're talking about the ultimate team game there is and he does whatever he needs to do to win each and every game."

Sirianni went on to point out other quarterbacks, who are considered "great" irrespective of the immense level of talent around them: Tom Brady with Rob Gronkowski and Steve Young with Jerry Rice being a couple of specific examples.
"I just think sometimes that's good debate, I guess. I wouldn't even say it's good debate, but it's debate that people are able to have. But yeah, I guess, my first initial thing was it's (expletive)."

Aaron Judge is out for the Yankees' game against the Phillies because of an elbow injury

James Schiano evaluates the potential of New York Yankees top prospect Spencer Jones, explaining why the 24-year-old outfielder's power production can't be ignored as he's compiled 29 home runs in the minors this season. NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees star Aaron Judge was out of the lineup Saturday against Philadelphia and was sent for imaging of his right elbow, a worrying development for a team that has been sliding down the standings for two months. 'Obviously concerned,' Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. 'We'll wait and see as they read the imaging.' Boone wouldn't speculate whether the injury involved Judge's ulnar collateral ligament. 'Hopefully it's something that is manageable and we can get through,' Boone said. A two-time AL MVP, Judge leads the major leagues with a .342 batting average and 1.160 OPS. He has 37 home runs and 85 RBIs for a New York team that opened a seven-game AL East lead by late May but started Saturday a season-high 5 1/2 games back of first-place Toronto. Judge winced at Toronto on Tuesday after catching Alejandro Kirk's seventh-inning fly in the right-field corner and throwing to second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. as Dante Bichette tagged up and went from second to third. Judge was seen by a YES Network camera clenching his right hand in a fist. 'He had a throw in Toronto where it zinged him, it hurt,' Boone said. Judge was a designated hitter the following day in Wednesday's series finale, which Boone said then was planned. He was in right field for Friday's series-opening 12-5 loss to Philadelphia, then was out of the lineup for the second time this season. 'Felt like he was fine on the off day and then just last night was really dealing with it. He couldn't really throw well from the outfield,' Boone said. Boone said Yankees team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad was to read the imaging Saturday.

Bengals, Nick Saban Connection Emerges in Stunning Suggestion

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The 2025 NFL season has begun with training camp and the Cincinnati Bengals will be an interesting team to watch. After missing the playoffs last season, there is a sense of urgency surrounding the franchise. Should the Bengals miss the playoffs once again this season, some major changes could come next. Zac Taylor, the team's head coach, is likely facing some pressure heading into this year. His job could very well be on the line. Joe Burrow played at an MVP level last season. That wasn't enough to lift Cincinnati into the playoffs. Moving forward, the team will have to figure out how to get back to being a Super Bowl contender like it was just a few short years ago. Head coach Nick Saban of the Alabama Crimson Tide reacts to a play during the second quarter against the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on December 02, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. If the team comes up short of expectations, could the Bengals look to bring in a new head coach? Read more: Steelers' DK Metcalf Puts NFL on Notice With Bold Warning With that being said, who could the team look to replace Taylor with? A shocking suggestion has been made. That suggestion is none other than legendary college football head coach Nick Saban, who has started coming up in rumors about a potential return to coaching in the NFL. Nick Wright, a notable sports analyst, spoke out and revealed that he believes Cincinnati would be a potential destination for Saban. "I'll throw a different one at you that is same state, different team. If this coming year goes the way I think it might for Cincinnati, I think Nick Saban is an interesting idea there," Wright said. "Listen, got to coach up the defense, got to have someone to actually have as big of a voice in the organization as the owner, got to clean up some of the nonsense going in the years they deal with every year, again, most of which is owner-related. And let Joe and Jamar handle the offense. Almost offload the offense to them." He continued on, sharing his belief that Saban would want to join a team that can compete right away after taking over. "You handle the details, finding some of the edges in young players from the college game that you're very aware of their skillset, and coach up the defense. Because the only point that you made that I disagree with is, if I'm Nick Saban and I want to do this, I'm not that interested in a studs-to-the-top-down rebuild. I'm much more interested in, I've got three or four years. Let me see if I can have a contender immediately. I think the Bengals who, if they miss the playoffs again, probably will be looking for a new coach. I think they could be an attractive one." He may not choose to return to coaching. But, if he does, he might have interest in heading back to the NFL and proving to himself that he can succeed at that level as well. In that scenario, the Bengals could be one of the best possible landing spots for Saban. For more Cincinnati Bengals and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Eagles' training camp: Jihaad Campbell's versatility could make Zack Baun even better

Jihaad Campbell learning both inside linebacker positions could allow the Eagles to utilize All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun more as a pass rusher in 2025 Zack Baun was initially signed by Philadelphia last off-season to add pass rush prowess and versatility to the Eagles' defense. Baun went on to become a Defensive Player of the Year finalist. The Eagles selected Jihaad Campbell in the draft, and on Saturday, the former Alabama star confirmed that he has been working out at both inside linebacker positions. Campbell learning Baun's spot could provide Philadelphia with a scenario where Nakobe Dean or Jeremiah Trotter Jr. plays the other linebacker spot alongside Campbell, allowing Baun to rush the passer more in 2025. The Erial, New Jersey native was named to the first-team All-SEC in 2024 after leading the team with 117 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks. Baun led the top-ranked total defense with 151 tackles and five forced fumbles in 2024. He also added one interception. He was one of two players since at least 2000 with 150-plus tackles and five-plus forced fumbles in a season (the Colts' Zaire Franklin also did so in 2024).
