UK soldier in Kenya accused of raping British woman
A MoD spokesperson said: "We can confirm the arrest of a British service person in Kenya in relation to a report of a sexual offence. The service person has been repatriated to the UK and the victim is a British adult, not a Kenyan."The matter is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the UK Defence Serious Crime Command, in accordance with the Defence Co-operation Agreement between the UK and Kenya and we will not comment further."A UK soldier has previously been accused of murdering a local woman, Agnes Wanjiru, whose body was found dumped in a septic tank in 2012.The UK has said it is co-operating with a Kenyan investigation into her death.The Batuk base was established in 1964 shortly after the East African nation gained independence from the UK.The UK military has an agreement with Kenya under which it can deploy up to six army battalions a year for periods of training at the site.But the British army has faced a string of allegations about the conduct of some UK personnel at the camp.A public inquiry set up by Kenyan MPs last year heard details of alleged mistreatment of local people by British soldiers.The allegations included a reported hit-and-run incident, as well as claims that some British soldiers had got local women pregnant before abandoning them and their children when they returned to the UK.

Jay Blades charged with rape
Jay Blades has been charged with two counts of rape. The Repair Shop presenter will appear in court next Wednesday over the allegations, police said. A West Merica Police spokesperson told The Sun: 'Jason Blades, 55, of Claverley in Shropshire, has been charged with two counts of rape. 'He is due to appear at Telford magistrates' court on 13 August 2025.' The presenter, who has received an MBE for services to craft, is awaiting a trial after last year being charged with controlling and coercive behaviour against estranged wife Lisa-Marie Zbozen, which he has denied. Blades was arrested in May 2024 and charged in September that year. His actions allegedly caused Lisa 'to fear, on at least two occasions, that violence will be used against her' between January 2023 and September 2022. He pleaded not guilty last October and is currently awaiting a pre-trial review on that charge.

The Repair Shop 's Jay Blades has been charged with two counts of rape. Police said in a statement tonight that the 55-year-old father-of-three would appear at magistrates' court next Wednesday. A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: 'Jason Blades, 55, of Claverley in Shropshire, has been charged with two counts of rape. 'He is due to appear at Telford magistrates' court on 13 August 2025.' Blades is currently awaiting trial on a separate charge of coercive control of his estranged wife Lisa-Marie Zbozen. He denied the allegation when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court last October. Blades is due to appear at the same court on Tuesday for a pre-trial review hearing. The star was charged last September with a single count of 'controlling and coercive behaviour' between January 1 2023 and September 12 2024. The single charge relates to his fitness instructor wife Ms Zbozen, who announced on Instagram on May 2 last year that she had walked out of the marriage. The BBC show, which started on daytime TV in 2017 before moving to a primetime slot, saw Blades become one of the best-known faces on British TV. He was honoured with an MBE in 2021. He has been at the helm of the show for seven years, but was dropped from last year's live tour.
