Going into the 2025 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will examine each player listed on the Penn State roster. Over the preseason, each profile will cover the player's background, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.
The newest addition to Penn State's running back room, freshman Tikey Hayes enrolled on campus early and has already hit the ground running. During a recent media availability, Franklin said "He's tough. This isn't too big for him. So a lot of things to like about him, a lot of things to like about him that have showed up already." Hayes saw limited playing time in the team's annual Spring Game but was able to get his first touches in Beaver Stadium ahead of his first college season.

Hayes was on the border between a 3- and 4-star per recruiting services. He put up big numbers at Aliquippa High School, leading to an offer from the Nittany Lions. After several visits to campus, he decided to commit, even after Ja'Juan Seider's departure.
Depth Chart Overview
Coming in as a true freshman, Hayes has his work cut out for him. Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen will hold down the top two spots on the depth chart, while players like Corey Smith, Quinton Martin and Cam Wallace battle for the next spots. Still, Hayes is off to a good start and may become a larger contributor in the coming years.

NFL analyst boldy suggests New York Giants have pass rush duo just as nasty as Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware

There has already been considerable hype about the potential of the New York Giants' pass rush in 2025. NFL Network analyst Manti Te'o added to it this week with a bold claim comparing what the team has to some of the great pass rush duos of this century. The 2024 edition of the Giants was again a disappointment. But their pass rush deserved respect due to the addition of former Carolina Panthers star Brian Burns. Then in April, the team selected, arguably, the best all-around talent in Penn State QB terrorizer Abdul Carter. However, on NFL Network's 'Good Morning Football' this week, former Chargers and Notre Dame star Manti Te'o made a bold claim about how good the combo of Burns and the rookie can be this season. 'The Giants got a really good rookie out of Penn State, named Abdul Carter, but you pair him with Brian Burns, there's something about when you have two dynamic defensive ends and how they complement each other,' Te'o began by saying. 'I remember we had Melvin Ingram with the Chargers. And Melvin was a really dominant, physical player. Melvin didn't get his first Pro Bowl until Joey Bosa came into the picture. We can go back to DeMarcus Ware-Von Miller, Dwight Freeney-Robert Mathis, Justin Houston-Tamba Hali. When you have two guys on the edge–the Pittsburgh Steelers have it right now, where they complement each other–it's a nightmare for offenses.' Advertisement Ware signed with the Broncos in 2014 after being a seven-time Pro Bowler with the Cowboys. He had a strong debut season, posting 10 sacks. However, he perfectly complemented rising star Miller, and he added 14 sacks of his own that year. In 2004, the combo of Freeney and Mathis tallied 26.5 sacks for the Colts. In 2013, the pair of Houston and Hali put up a combined 22 sacks for the Chiefs that year. If the G-Men can get those sorts of numbers from just two players this season, New York fans would be thrilled. Elite LSU football recruiting target reveals decision day

Four-star defensive lineman and LSU football recruiting target Deuce Geralds has locked in a decision date. According to Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, Geralds will commit on August 2. LSU is a finalist alongside Michigan, Oregon, Ohio State, and Ole Miss. ESPN and Rivals both rank Geralds as the No. 2 defensive tackle in the class of 2026. On3 and 247Sports aren't quite as high, but both slot Geralds as a top-200 prospect. On3's Industry Rankings place Geralds No. 95 overall and No. 6 at his position. Geralds is a Georgia native, playing his high school ball at Collins Hill. But UGA is out of the race for the blue-chip defensive lineman. There's no clear front runner for Geralds and there's yet to be a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction. LSU has been recruiting Geralds for some time now. He's a Baton Rouge native and Geralds father has ties to LSU running backs coach Frank Wilson. Geralds doesn't count as a "Louisiana recruit," but we've seen LSU have success landing recruits who were born in the Boot before moving away. Before Geralds commits next month, LSU will learn the fate of five-star defensive tackle Lamar Brown on Thursday, July 10. If LSU misses on Brown, the Tigers could turn up the heat on Geralds.
