How Elgin Town Hall transformation could make it Moray's touring destination like P&J Live and Eden Court

Senior officials want Elgin Town Hall's ambitious expansion and refurbishment to cement its place as a destination for touring musicians and performers.
Moray Council's Cultural Quarter project manager Claire English believes changes to the much-loved venue will raise the profile of the B-listed building beyond its already-growing reputation.
At the end of March, Elgin Town Hall closed its doors to the public for initial preparation works inside the building to start.
A main contractor is expected to be appointed by end of July with the main work on the project due to begin in the autumn.
The construction costs for the transformation are estimated to be between £15 million and £16 million.
Before the renovation, SSEN will move cabling from the nearby substation further away from the Town Hall.
The development is part of the £31 million Cultural Quarter project, which forms part of the Moray Growth Deal.
Claire said: 'It's definitely an ambition for everyone to improve the facilities and ensure the Town Hall becomes Moray's main venue in line with cultural venues between Aberdeen, Elgin and Inverness.
'This will benefit the offering for everyone.
'It is all about enhancing the facilities and improving the customer experience.
'Also it gives the venue a higher profile and generate more interest from performers, producers and audiences as well.
'People may not travel this far north for shows, however there might be more gigs for them.
'People already travel between Aberdeen, Inverness and Elgin for shows.'
The new look facility will have a large extension which will run down the length of Elgin Town Hall next to the Lossiemouth road.
This addition, which will house the box office, reception and lobby, will become the main entrance to the B-listed building with separate doors from both the A96 and Lossie Green sides.
Meanwhile, the current entrance area will be transformed into a new bar with glass windows looking out over a refurbished courtyard.
And a second extension will be built at the rear of the building, on the A96 side, which will house a second performance venue for rehearsals or smaller events.
Capacity will be increased too.
Claire said: 'This makeover will give charity Elgin Town Hall for the Community the opportunity to take what they have been doing really well and build on it with a fit for purpose building.
'The facilities for the performers will be improved too as it will be easier to load up equipment onto the stage.
'The fact that the new bar will be in the old foyer, somewhere which most people have been in, is great too.
'People have so many memories about the venue and more will be created once it reopens after the renovation.'
The Cultural Quarter project will also aim to bring Grant Lodge back into use.
The project will aim to combine restored heritage spaces with sensitive contemporary extensions.
These will provide flexible, high-quality areas and services including a café/bar, gallery, exhibitions, retail, and events like weddings, within a vibrant Moray heritage and tourism hub.
The transformation is estimated to cost around £9 million.
Meanwhile, the planning application is expected to be submitted by end of this summer.
Works to repair the historic building are expected to begin in 2027 and the phased opening of the building likely to take place between 2027 and 2029.

Outlander fans are concerned for Jamie Fraser after a first look at the eighth and final series was revealed Outlander fans were given a surprise when the trailer for the eighth and final series of the Starz hit was shown at San Diego Comic Con. ‌ The two and a half minute teaser focussed largely on Claire and Jamie Fraser's romance from their first meeting to their wedding and their reunion after 20 years apart. ‌ But it was the last 30 seconds that left fans concerned as Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) reveals he had a copy of Frank Randall's (Tobias Menzies) book. ‌ He tells Claire: "I've been reading Frank's book," and she asks what it reveals. In one moment, viewers are shown blood covering Claire's (Caitriona Balfe) hands. While she may just be covered in blood from helping injured soldiers, it could be Jamie's blood. ‌ Unexpectedly, fans have been quick to pick up on the death clue with one writing on Reddit: "FRANK BETTER BE F**KING WRONG." Another added: "I don't think I'll make it if they kill Jamie off in the final season." ‌ One fan posted: "The hands with blood is throwing me. BBC star details 'horrific' car accident and says 'I should have died'

She's bravely showing how her PTSD and mental health issues won't be stopping her take on a once in the lifetime challenge. A contestant on the upcoming BBC gameshow Destination X has opened up about a near-fatal car crash that changed her perspective on life. ‌ The show, which will be hosted by Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon, is set to premiere next week with 13 contestants vying for a £100,000 prize. ‌ In what promises to be an epic adventure, reminiscent of The Traitors meets Race Across The World, the participants will traverse the continent without knowing their location or destination, deciphering truth from the clues, deceit, and lies presented to them. ‌ The diverse group includes an 11-time world record holder, a London cabbie who's conquered Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru and rowed the Atlantic without prior experience, a pilot, a nuclear engineer, and a content creator. Among the competitors is Claire, a retired detective sergeant from West Sussex, who's eager to "go missing for a while" in this unique challenge, reports Wales Online. ‌ he 51-year-old from West Sussex is already physically prepared for the game after training in the army and police, having worked with the latter for 26 years. She's also had some adventurous experiences, as an HGV one lorry driver travelling through France and the Alps. But it's not just her professional and adventurous pursuits that define her; Claire has also survived a harrowing ordeal. She disclosed the details of a dreadful car accident she was involved in, describing the scene as "carnage". This brush with death nearly cost her life and has since led her to adopt a new outlook on life. ‌ Claire opened up about her past, sharing: "I was in a horrific car accident seven years ago and should have died which was a life changing experience. It made me look at life completely differently. They had to shut the road for six hours, there were four ambulances, five fire engines and it was carnage. My car was in the middle and they didn't expect me to be alive. But there I was." Now gearing up for Destination X, Claire is keen to tackle the show's challenges head-on, despite grappling with mental health issues. ‌ She continued: "I'm most excited about getting stuck into the challenges. I have got PTSD and the reason I'm doing this show is to say to the world that even though you might have mental health issues, you can still do it. But equally, I know my limitations. I'm excited about pushing myself to the absolute limit but will say no if I need to." The 10-episode competition will see the players travel on a bus with sensory deprivation and no contact with the outside world, as they're tasked with attempting to figure out where they could possibly be after being offered a series of bizarre clues to help them. Only the smartest will be able to decipher the red herrings from the truth behind the hints, and the players are slowly whittled down to the winner (who scores a £100,000 prize) as they guess their locations, with the contestant furthest away from where they really are being eliminated from the game. "It's the adventure of a lifetime, with one simple question at its heart: where in the world am I? Rob Brydon masterminds the high-stakes competition where nothing is as it seems...," the synopsis teases.
