FACE TO FACE Lucy Letby prison guard reveals what baby killer is REALLY like in jail & chilling feature that made her 'very strange'
THE prison officer who watched convicted baby murderer Lucy Letby on her first night on remand has revealed what she was like in jail.
The guard, known only as Dave, watched the "very strange" killer during her brief stint at Styal Prison in Cheshire.

Letby, 35, from Hereford, is serving 15 whole-life orders after she was convicted across two trials at Manchester Crown Court of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others.
Speaking on the Shaun Attwoods True Crime Podcast, he said that the 35-year-old was a 'very, very strange character'.
Dave explained that he received a text offering overtime to be on 'constant watch' over a prisoner.
However, he was not told it was Letby until the last minute when his boss broke the news.
Dave spent the night with Letby during her first night on remand, after she had arrived fresh from court.
He revealed that he was surprised at the child killer's 'dishevelled' appearance.
He said: 'I turned up, sit down on the segregation and the first thing that sort of hit me, you see her in all these photographs, this normal looking blonde woman, and I was surprised at how sort of dishevelled she looked.
'She didn't have blonde hair, brown hair, she just looked sort of drained.
"It was night time, I think she might have asked me what time it was at one point. There might have been a few words exchanged, not much.'
Letby was only kept at Styal Prison for a handful of days before being transferred to another facility.

The murderous nurse stood trial at Manchester Crown Court in 2022, where she pleaded not guilty to seven counts of murder and 15 counts of attempted murder.
She was eventually convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of another seven and handed 15 whole-life sentences.
Letby, from Hereford, committed her crimes while working in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016
Dave said he didn't know whether other Styal inmates were aware she was in the same prison, but other female lags would 'not have treated her well' owing to the nature of her offences.
The former neonatal worker has being seeing out her sentence in HMP Bronzefield, which houses many of the Britain's most notorious female prisoners.
Letby is on the same wing killer mum Sian Hedges and Beinash Batool, who was jailed for killing stepdaughter Sara Sharif.
Known as House Block 4, the unit is reserved for those serving life sentences and prisoners who have enhanced status due to good behaviour behind bars.
Also on the same wing until her recent release was disgraced prison officer Linda De Sousa Abreu, who was filmed having sex with a prison while working at Wandsworth Prison.

Letby lost two attempts to challenge her convictions at the Court of Appeal last year.
In April a new email - sent on May 4 2017 to colleagues at the Countess of Chester Hospital - emrged which appears to cast significant doubts over the official chronology of events.
The memo is a significant boost to Letby's legal fight to overturn her convictions.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage was the latest official figure to reveal he has revealed he has "doubts" over Lucy Letby guilt.
The Reform UK leader spoke about the case off the back of Jeremy Hunt's comment piece in the Mail last week.
The former health secretary called for an "urgent re-examination" of Letby after "serious and credible" questions were raised by experts.
The MP urged Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which investigates potential miscarriages of justice, to "speed up their normally painfully slow process".
Speaking on GB News, Mr Farage agreed that he was also beginning to have 'doubts' about the case.
He said: 'I have a feeling, actually, Jeremy Hunt might be right about the Lucy Letby case.
"I'm just beginning to get more and more doubts about that issue."
Cheshire Constabulary is still conducting a review of deaths and non-fatal collapses of babies at the neonatal units of the Countess of Chester and Liverpool Women's Hospital during Letby's time as a nurse from 2012 to 2016.
The force have also launched another probe into allegations of corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Meanwhile Lady Justice Thirlwall is due to publish in November the findings from the public inquiry into how the former nurse was able to commit her crimes.
The Sun revealed earlier this year what Letby's own parents, Jonathan, 79, and Susan Letby, 65, said about the case.
In one correspondence, seen by The Sun, Letby's parents reveal they "firmly believe" their daughter's convictions will be "the biggest miscarriage of justice in British history".
They also said they're pleased "public opinion is beginning to sway" in her favour "at last".

Tamara Ecclestone slams £26m jewellery crooks after tiny amount they repaid before being deported is revealed

TAMARA Ecclestone has blasted three foreign crooks deported after repaying just £37,000 following her £26million gem raid, saying: 'There will never be any justice.' Jugoslav Jovanovic, 27, Alessandro Maltese, 48, and Alessandro Donati, 47, were jailed for a total of 28 years in November 2021 over the 2019 heist in Kensington, West London. In a proceeds of crime confiscation order, a judge told the Italians to repay £435,000. But a Sun on Sunday Freedom of Information request revealed payments of just £30,376.79, £2,155.53 and £4,349.65 respectively. They were deported having served a fraction of their sentences — and will now walk free. Tamara said: 'My children are in fear that thieves could return to the house while they are sleeping. There will never be any justice for that.' Tory MP Sir John Hayes said: 'These criminals should serve the remainder of their sentence in Italy. "They should not be allowed to walk the streets. "We have to work with the Italian authorities to try to recover the proceeds of this robbery.' The CPS said it will seek more cash if other assets are discovered. Police assessing videos of Kneecap and Bob Vylan's Glastonbury performances

In a post on social media, Avon and Somerset Police said: 'We are aware of the comments made by acts on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury Festival this afternoon. Bob Vylan also displayed pro-Palestinian images (Yui Mok/PA) 'Video evidence will be assessed by officers to determine whether any offences may have been committed that would require a criminal investigation.' Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has spoken to the BBC Director General about the Bob Vylan's performance, a Government spokesperson said. They added: 'We strongly condemn the threatening comments made by Bob Vylan at Glastonbury. 'The Culture Secretary has spoken to the BBC Director General to seek an urgent explanation about what due diligence it carried out ahead of the Bob Vylan performance, and welcomes the decision not to re-broadcast it on BBC iPlayer.' There was a display of pro-Palestinian flags and t-shirts during Kneecap's set (Yui Mok/PA) Kneecap, who hail from Belfast, have been in the headlines after member Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, was charged with a terror offence. In reference to his bandmate's upcoming court date, Naoise O Caireallain, who performs under the name Moglai Bap, said they would 'start a riot outside the courts', before clarifying: 'No riots just love and support, and support for Palestine.' In the run-up to the festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset, several politicians called for Kneecap to be removed from the line-up and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said their performance would not be 'appropriate'. During the performance Caireallain said: 'The Prime Minister of your country, not mine, said he didn't want us to play, so f*** Keir Starmer.' He also said a 'big thank you to the Eavis family' and said 'they stood strong' amid calls for the organisers to drop them from the line-up. O hAnnaidh, 27, wore a keffiyeh during the set, while member JJ O Dochartaigh, who performs under the name DJ Provai, wore his signature tri-coloured balaclava as well as a T-shirt that said: 'We are all Palestine Action', in reference to the soon-to-be banned campaign group. News broadcasts criticising the hip hop trio played from the sound system before they walked onto the stage were booed by the Glastonbury Festival audience. The trio opened with the song Better Way To Live from their 2024 album Fine Art and also performed tracks including Get Your Brits Out and Hood. Access to the area around the West Holts Stage was closed around 45 minutes before their performance after groups of fans arrived to form a sea of Irish and Palestinian flags. A Bob Vylan member crowd-surfs surrounded by Palestinian flags (Yui Mok/PA) Earlier on Saturday, the BBC confirmed they would not be live-streaming the set but said the performance is likely to be made available on-demand later. O hAnnaidh was charged with allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah, while saying 'up Hamas, up Hezbollah' at a gig in November last year. On June 18, the rapper was cheered by hundreds of supporters as he arrived with bandmates O Caireallain and O Dochartaigh at Westminster Magistrates' Court in Free Mo Chara T-shirts. He was released on unconditional bail until the next hearing at the same court on August 20.

Killer cop Wayne Couzens secretly whisked to NHS hospital for £17k back op sparking fury over ‘appalling waste of money'

Sources said Couzens was 'reluctant' to move from the jail's hospital as he fears being attacked BEAST'S VIP TREATMENT Killer cop Wayne Couzens secretly whisked to NHS hospital for £17k back op sparking fury over 'appalling waste of money' KILLER cop Wayne Couzens was secretly whisked to an NHS hospital for a back op — costing taxpayers an estimated £17,000. The fiend, 52, who kidnapped, raped and murdered Sarah Everard, required intensive security during his several days away from HMP Frankland, Durham. The cost of getting him in and out of HMP Frankland in Durham was estimated to be £10,000 alone - while the procedure can cost up to £7,000. The revelation was slammed as a waste of public money last night, amid concerns Couzens was allowed to jump the waiting list. Labour's North Durham MP Luke Akehurst said: 'I would be disgusted if it turns out that this vile rapist and murderer was able to jump the queue in front of decent law-abiding people to get his treatment. Advertisement He should not be given any special treatment in jail. He's in prison as punishment for his terrible crimes - nobody should forget that Robert Jenrick on Couzens 'The cost of the security surrounding his time in hospital is an appalling waste of public money.' Tory shadow Justice Minister Robert Jenrick added: 'Wayne Couzens is one of the most despicable criminals in our jails and a traitor to the police uniform he wore. 'He should not be given any special treatment in jail. He's in prison as punishment for his terrible crimes — nobody should forget that.' Couzens, who abused police powers to abduct Sarah, 33, in a fake Covid arrest before killing her in 2021, had the procedure this month. Advertisement The nearest unit offering his op is the University Hospital of North Durham. A typical lumbar procedure sees medics sterilise the patient's back before delivering a local anaesthetic. Chilling moment Wayne Couzens moans 'I'm not in a good place' in shocking police interview after murdering Sarah Everard They then drain fluid with a syringe. Couzens is believed to have spent several days in hospital before being driven the three miles back to the Category A prison's healthcare unit. Advertisement A source told how the operation was not an emergency and was carried out 'to make him comfortable'. They said: 'People are angry at how he was treated — and how much effort the authorities went to, as well as how much it cost. 'Couzens is constantly moaning in jail and had been complaining about back pain so was assessed in healthcare at the prison. 'The security operation to get him to and from the hospital would have easily run to more than £10,000. Advertisement 'He was taken straight from his cell into a Category A van, which is bullet-proof with a custody manager and at least four prison officers. 'While he was at the hospital, armed police would have been on guard. Couzens was classed as a 'high-risk escort' — not because he poses a danger but because of the danger to him from the public. 7 Vile killer cop Couzens kidnapped, raped and murdered Sarah Everard in 2021 Credit: PA 'He is recognisable and reviled so they do not take chances. Advertisement 'He would have been treated on a ward — but in his own room — to keep him away from people. The prison and NHS have a duty of care to him, like they do with everyone. 'But this was apparently not even an emergency procedure and was basically done to relieve pressure on him and make him comfortable.' Ex-prison governor Vanessa Frake, who ran London's notorious Wormwood Scrubs, said: 'Getting prisoners to operations like this is all down to risk. It would have taken a while to plan with the police and the hospital, assessing not only his safety, but the safety of prison staff, healthcare staff, other patients and the public. Couzens should be at the very bottom of the pecking order when it comes to NHS treatment Former Met detective Peter Bleksley 'It's not an unusual thing for prisoners to go out to hospital. This is more unusual because he is who he is, and that makes it much more difficult not only for the prison staff but the hospital staff as well. Advertisement 'I understand people's concerns about it. But more than that, I think about Sarah Everard's family and how they must be feeling.' Sources said Couzens was 'reluctant' to move from the jail's hospital as he fears being attacked. 7 University Hospital of North Durham, where Couzens was treated Credit: Alamy We told in March 2022 how the former Met firearms officer had been allowed to buy an Xbox 360 as a reward for good behaviour. Advertisement But he then moaned after being barred from playing violent games like Call of Duty and Gears of War. Couzens — handed a whole-life tariff because of his heinous crimes — is housed with other fiends including double child murderer Ian Huntley and morgue monster David Fuller. He has previously been on suicide watch and is regularly placed on ACCT — Assessment, Care in Custody, and Teamwork — programmes which involve close monitoring of vulnerable lags. Former Met detective Peter Bleksley said: 'Couzens should be at the very bottom of the pecking order when it comes to NHS treatment. Advertisement 'It sticks in the craw when any killer like him is effectively whisked to the front of the queue. If anybody has had their procedures cancelled or even delayed so he can be treated, it is a scandal and an insult to the memory of Sarah.'
