Lions TE Brock Wright: HOF game loss reminder that team needs 'sense of urgency' every day
Tight end Brock Wright was one of the many significant Lions who didn't even suit up. The veteran is locked in as Detroit's No. 2 tight end and is having a pretty strong summer, but the loss still stung Wright.
After Sunday's practice, I asked Wright as part of a media session about how the Lions process the indignity of getting blown out in the first preseason game of 2025.
"It always stings when you get beat, especially in a way like that," Wright responded. "But it's just another reminder that you have to have a sense of urgency even though it's still early in training camp. A sense of urgency to get better every day. And it's a race to try and improve and get to where we want to be, because we've got a long way to go this season."
Wright also stated that he's working on his blocking technique and has received positive help on that front from new Lions TE Tyler Roehl.

Justin Herbert hilariously commanded O-line's debate about grilled cheese
Every team wants a quarterback who can keep a group focused on a singular mission. And when it comes to discussing sides for grilled cheese, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert knows how to get his teammates back on track. In a recent mic'd-up video from Chargers training camp, offensive lineman Trey Pipkins III brought up to Joe Alt and Herbert how some regions in the U.S. don't have tomato soup as a side for grilled cheese. Alt pointed about how there's variance across regions for plenty of foods, but he veered off topic by bringing up Italy and pizza. When Alt started talking about how Italy doesn't put cheese on its pizza (which isn't necessarily true for most Italian pizzas), Herbert had to step in and bring the discussion back stateside. "We're talking about our country," Herbert said and added, "Then why'd you bring up Italy?" That's leadership right there. Herbert wanted everyone to be on the same page. Also, grilled cheese is just fine on its own. Yeah, I said it. You can check out the full mic'd-up video here too.
