ABC's hit reality competition Dancing With the Stars is officially returning for its 34th season this fall. Along with the renewal came the reveal of the first celebrity contestant—whose sister is well known to viewers for her past time on the show.
On Tuesday, April 22, the show announced that Robert Irwin will join Season 34 as the first confirmed celebrity contestant. The 21-year-old wildlife conservationist enters the competition a decade after his sister, Bindi Irwin, won the Mirrorball trophy alongside pro dancer (and now judge) Derek Hough.
'I cannot tell you what an honor, what a privilege it is to be joining this season,' Irwin said at the launch event, recalling how, at 11 years old, he watched his sister Bindi have "the most incredible time" in the ballroom.
"And I just thought, 'one day that's gonna be me,'" he continued. 'I have these little dreams and now that dream is a reality and I am over the moon let's do this.'
Here's everything to know about Robert, from his career in wildlife conservation and his beloved father to his sister Bindi's winning DWTS 10 years ago.

Robert Irwin lives in Australia and works as a wildlife conservationist. He's the son of the late Steve Irwin, the legendary environmentalist, and star of the documentary series The Crocodile Hunter. In September 2006, Steve tragically passed away at the age of 44 after a fatal stingray injury while filming an underwater documentary in the Great Barrier Reef.
Robert has carried on the Irwin family legacy, working as a zookeeper at the Australia Zoo alongside his mother, Terri, and sister, Bindi. The family operates the zoo's non-profit charity, Wildlife Warriors, and supports various global conservation projects worldwide, according to the Australia Zoo's website.
In 2014, he co-hosted the Discovery Kids series Wild But True, and from 2018 to 2022, he starred in Crikey! It's the Irwins, a show that follows the family's life and conservation work at the zoo.

As a teenager, Robert went viral thanks to his recurring appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he introduced Jimmy and celebrity guests like Kevin Hart to various wild animals, including baby black bears, a tarantula, a falcon, and more.

Robert's sister Bindi, 26, was a contestant during Season 21 of Dancing With the Stars. Bindi was paired with current judge Derek Hough, and they won the Mirrorball Trophy in November 2015.
Robert's sister, Bindi, 26, competed on DWTS in Season 21. She was paired with Hough, and they ultimately won the Mirrorball Trophy in November 2015.
During her time on the show, Bindi paid tribute to her late father through her performances. In the finale, she delivered a deeply emotional freestyle routine dedicated to him, earning a perfect score of 30/30 from the judges.
'Sometimes during rehearsals, it feels like there's three people in the room,' Bindi said at the time. "Derek put that feeling into this freestyle.'
Terri and Robert were by Bindi's side during her time on Dancing With the Stars, and now they'll be cheering him on this fall. Back in 2019, when asked by Entertainment Tonight if he'd ever follow in his sister's footsteps, Robert joked, "I'm not as graceful as Bindi, let's just say that. I'm not very graceful."
However, he didn't rule it out. "[But] I'd give it a go," he added. 'I don't think I'd be as good as Bindi. She was incredible.'
Hough, who joined the judging panel full-time in 2020 following the passing of Len Goodman, told People that Robert is 'coming with them abs' and that the show is 'really lucky to have him.'
'It's been 10 years since that little guy was on that front row rooting for [his sister] Bindi Irwin,' the judge said after the announcement. 'And to see the man that he's become in short 10 years is pretty amazing, man. We're really lucky to have him.'
"Premiere - 3301" "Dancing with the Stars" returns for an all-new star-studded season! Co-hosted by ... More Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, the series returns for season 33, featuring 13 new celebrities who are ready to hit the ballroom floor. So far, Robert Irwin is the only confirmed contestant for Season 34. ABC is expected to reveal the full cast lineup on Good Morning America closer to the show's premiere this fall.
DANCING WITH THE STARS - "Finale" - Once again, the finale episode will have five couples competing ... More for a chance at winning the coveted Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. Bob Dylan's former NYC townhouse asks $3M — with design by a famed Gilded Age architect

Find 'Shelter From the Storm' in this historic townhouse that just listed for sale. A handsome Upper Manhattan property that Bob Dylan once called home has listed for $3 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. The megastar musician lived in the five-story residence, designed by an iconic Gilded Age architect, for 14 years until 2000. 12 The five-story townhouse along Harlem's Strivers' Row. Allyson Lubow for Sotheby's International Realty The 'Like a Rolling Stone' singer arrived in New York City from Minnesota in the 1960s. Dylan initially lived in a third-floor Greenwich Village walkup. That apartment, and its entire building, also listed for sale in July for $8.25 million. Less than three decades after arriving in the Big Apple and becoming a household name, Dylan bought himself a home in Harlem. The neighborhood's famed jazz and blues traditions inspired Dylan throughout his career. The Nobel Prize-winning songwriter spent years at the 4,500-square-foot property, but there's little to show for it beyond a deed. The intensely private singer lived a quiet life in the townhome-lined community, a historic district called Strivers' Row. 12 Strivers' Row is located on both sides of West 138th and West 139th streets in Harlem. Allyson Lubow for Sotheby's International Realty The two-block tract is lined with historic townhouses, but Dylan's former home comes with a special degree of architectural cachet. It was designed by the prolific Gilded Age architect Stanford White, whose Renaissance Revival-style defined the luxury buildings of his era. The spacious property includes a 19-foot salon, a large eat-in kitchen and a massive parlor floor. The well-preserved five-bedroom's classical details, like period moldings, hardwood floors, pocket doors and soaring ceilings, are balanced out by the modern luxuries of Gaggenau appliances and heated floors. Colin Montgomery and Stan Ponte of Sotheby's International Realty hold the listing. The current owners of the townhome, Isam Salah and Elaina Richardson, purchased it for $3.17 million in 2018, according to city records. Salah, a retired attorney, and Richardson, the former editor in chief of Elle magazine, are selling to focus on their lives upstate, the Journal reported. Richardson runs a nonprofit artists' retreat in Saratoga Springs. 12 Detailed millwork on the stairs. Allyson Lubow for Sotheby's International Realty 12 A large bedroom. Allyson Lubow for Sotheby's International Realty Their home's discounted sale price, the pair told the Journal, meets the market where it's at. Interest in high-end Harlem townhomes, either as family homes or portfolio investments, has lagged since the pandemic. But the married couple told the Journal that the memories created in their townhome make up for the loss. They purchased the home in part because they admired its well-preserved details, including an original range stove and a 4-foot-tall safe, which they use as a bar. The connection to Dylan is not lost on the couple, however. Richardson told the Journal that small tour groups occasionally stop outside the home, but said that the dedicated fans are pretty sedate.

Paula Deen has abruptly closed the Savannah restaurant that launched her to Food Network fame

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Former Food Network star Paula Deen announced Friday the abrupt closure of the Savannah restaurant that launched her to fame with its menu of fried chicken, banana pudding and other indulgent Southern dishes. Deen ran The Lady & Sons restaurant with her two sons, Jamie and Bobby Deen, for nearly three decades. Loyal fans visiting Savannah continued to line up for Deen's buffet long after the Food Network canceled her show, 'Paula's Home Cooking,' in 2013. But 78-year-old Deen said Friday that The Lady & Sons closed for good along with her second Savannah eatery, The Chicken Box. A statement posted on Deen's website and social media accounts didn't say why the restaurants had shut down. 'Hey, y'all, my sons and I made the heartfelt decision that Thursday, July 31st, was the last day of service for The Lady & Sons and The Chicken Box,' Deen's statement said. 'Thank you for all the great memories and for your loyalty over the past 36 years,' she said. 'We have endless love and gratitude for every customer who has walked through our doors.' Deen said her four restaurants outside Savannah will remain open. They're located in Nashville and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Branson, Missouri. Deen was divorced and nearly broke when she moved to Savannah with her boys in 1989 and started a catering business called The Bag Lady. She opened her first restaurant a few years later at a local Best Western hotel, then started The Lady & Sons in downtown Savannah in 1996. The restaurant soon had lines out the door and served roughly 1,100 diners per day at the height of Deen's popularity. A USA Today food critic awarded The Lady & Sons his 'meal of the year' in 1999. Deen moved her Savannah restaurant to a larger building nearby the year after The Food Network debuted 'Paula's Home Cooking' in 2002. Filmed mostly in her home kitchen, Deen taped more than 200 episodes over the next decade. The Food Network canceled Deen's show in 2013 amid fallout from a lawsuit by a former employee. A transcript of Deen answering questions under oath in a legal deposition became public that included Deen's awkward responses to questions about race. Asked if she had ever used the N-word, Deen said, 'Yes, of course,' though she added: 'It's been a very long time.' Deen returned to television on ABC's 'Dancing With the Stars,' on chef Gordon Ramsay's Fox show 'MasterChef: Legends,' and on Fox Nation, which began streaming 'At Home With Paula Deen' in 2020. She also posts cooking videos to a YouTube channel that has more than 520,000 subscribers.
