'Doesn't even sound like her': Queensland-based Bindi Irwin shocks with thick American accent in podcast interview as theory behind change emerges

Bindi Irwin has shocked fans by speaking with a thick American accent in a podcast interview after spending a significant amount of time in the US. The Australian wildlife warrior's sudden change of tone can be clearly heard as she recently spoke with Not Gonna Lie podcast host Kylie Kelce. In the pair's wide-ranging discussion, Bindi spoke about her four-year-old daughter Grace's love for the popular children's animated character Bluey. "How big is Bluey in your household?" Kelce asked the 26-year-old. Bindi affirmed the character was a staple in her home, but it was her thick American accent while answering the question that caught fans off guard. "Oh my goodness," Bindi said, mirroring Kelce's twang. "Bluey is life; Bluey is everything," The daughter of the late conservationist Steve Irwin and his American wife Terri tapered her new accent as the pair's discussion progressed. Eventually, the mother of one returned to speaking with her usual Australian pronunciation. Bindi has been previously observed using an American accent when speaking with Americans or in a US setting. Her husband Chandler Powell and mother Terri are from the US, which could explain how Bindi's speech has been influenced. Nevertheless, eagle-eyed fans are baffled over the sudden change and have taken to Reddit to attempt to explain how it happened. One person on the platform recalled the entire Irwin family had a "very strong" Australian accent while growing up in the 2000s, claiming it has now changed dramatically. "I've noticed that Bindi Irwin's accent and speech pattern has completely changed," the fan wrote. "And it doesn't even sound like her anyone. Meanwhile, both her mother and brother still have the accents they've always had." A commentator responded by speculating the swap could be due to "code-switching." The common practice refers to people alternating between two or more languages or language varieties in conversation. "Code-switching. Depending on who I'm talking to, I have no Southern accent, just a light one, heavier one, or full-good ole girl. Depending," the Reddit user wrote. "I do not even think about it; I just do it." Bindi's latest use of her American accent comes as she has been spending time in the States where she recently underwent emergency surgery in New York. The wildlife warrior took to Instagram to post a heartfelt video from her hospital bed in May, just an hour after the procedure. "Hey guys, Bindi here, I just wanted to thank you so much for your incredible well wishes, I just got out of surgery about an hour ago," she said, as hospital equipment beeped softly in the background. "I just had my appendix removed. I also had 14 new endometriosis lesions that had to be removed, and they kindly stitched up my hernia as well." Bindi was flown to New York for the surgery from Las Vegas, where she had intended to attend the annual Steve Irwin Gala but was unable to do so. The gala, held to raise funds for global conservation efforts, has been running since 2002 in memory of Steve Irwin. The loved conservationist died at the age of 44 in 2006 after being fatally injured by a stingray while filming on the Great Barrier Reef. Bindi has since shared updates to her more than 5 million Instagram followers, indicating she is on the road to recovery.

Bindi Irwin shocks fans as she reveals unusual accent during interview

She might be an Aussie icon, but Bindi Irwin sounded remarkably different in a recent interview. The wildlife conservationist, who has been spending a lot of time in the US over the last few months, appeared on the Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce podcast where she discussed her four-year-old daughter Grace's love of kids show Bluey. In the interview, the 26-year-old debuted a notable American twang as she spoke about the children's show. 'How big is Bluey in your household?' US-based host Kylie asked her. 'Oh my goodness,' Bindi replied back, mimicking the interviewer with a thick American accent. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Bluey is life. Bluey is everything,' she added. Bindi's Australian accent slowly came back as the interview progressed, however her initial twang reflected just how much time Bindi has been spending in the States. The conservationist recently shared a heartwarming family picture as she visited Disney World in Florida with her husband Chandler Powell and their daughter Grace. Bindi could be seen posing with her brood in front of the theme park's iconic Cinderella castle in a sweet photo shared to Instagram. Chandler, 28, carried little Grace, who was dressed for the occasion in a sparkling frock and a Mickey Mouse hat, as Bindi held her husband's hand and smiled. 'May was an incredible month,' Chandler captioned the family photo. The former wake-board champion then listed some moments the family shared, including Bindi's shock medical emergency which emerged as a blessing in disguise. 'Visiting my family in Florida, Bindi getting life changing surgery, Oregon adventures, and Disney all together,' he wrote. 'Very grateful,' Chandler finished off the post, which has garnered over 33,000 likes. In May, Bindi was rushed to hospital just hours after touching down in Las Vegas for a gala honouring her late father Steve Irwin. She suffered a ruptured appendix and was raced into surgery, missing the prestigious event she was due to attend alongside brother Robert Irwin and mother Terri Irwin. In an Instagram post, Bindi revealed while her appendix was removed, doctors discovered another 14 lesions from her endometriosis. These were also successfully removed. She also had a large hernia repaired which had developed after giving birth to daughter Grace in 2021.

Robert Irwin gets visibly emotional as he watches forgotten footage of his late father Steve: 'He is my superhero'

Robert Irwin struggled to hold back tears on Wednesday while watching a forgotten clip of his late father Steve. Steve 'The Crocodile Hunter' Irwin died aged 44 off the coast of Queensland in 2006, after being pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming a nature documentary. Appearing on BBC Radio2's Scott Mills Breakfast Show, Robert, 21, was played a clip of Steve that showed him outlining his dreams for him and his sister Bindi, 26. The clip began with Steve asking himself: 'Is there anything in this world that would want to make me give away what I'm doing now? 'Yes. Yes there is,' he replied. 'When my children can take the football that I call wildlife conservation and run it up.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Steve's voice began to crack with emotion as he admitted that seeing Robert and Bindi take up the wildlife warrior mantle would be his 'proudest moment'. 'I guarantee you it'll be the proudest moment of my life - and my job will be done like my mum and my dad,' Steve said. 'Then, and only then, will I know that I have achieved my ultimate goal. To be able to stand aside and let them run up my mission.' Visibly moved by his father's words, Robert admitted that his dad would always be his 'superhero'. 'It's emotional to hear that,' he said. 'It means so much and when you dedicate your life to legacy, it really makes you think about how we all get to create our legacy.' 'He is my superhero - he always will be. And he was, I think, a superhero to an entire generation.' Continuing, he said that, 19 years after Steve's death, friends and people that knew him still regale Robert with tales of his late father. 'There is not a day goes by where someone doesn't share a story about him,' he said. 'To hear that it really means the absolute world. And it really is an honour to make sure that everything he lived and died for continues.' Steve died on September 4 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a short-tail stingray barb while filming in the Great Barrier Reef with Philippe Cousteau Jr. A private funeral service was held on September 9 and Steve was buried in a private ceremony at Australia Zoo later that same day. A public memorial service was held in Australia Zoo's 5,500-seat Crocoseum on 30 September, and was broadcast live to an estimated audience of more than 300 million. On the anniversary of his death last year, Steve's wife Terri shared an emotional tribute to her husband. The 60-year-old conservationist took to Instagram to share a series of throwback photos that feature Steve with his daughter Bindi and son Robert. Captioning the sweet post, Terri was full of praise for her late husband and the way his children have picked up the wildlife warrior mantle. 'Steve had so much love for Robert and Bindi. He was the best dad,' Terri began. 'It warms my heart to see how much they always wanted to be just like him. I know he would be proud of the way they have continued his message and mission for conservation.' Fans and followers flooded the comment section to offer support and gratitude after the mumager shared her moving moment. One fan wrote: 'Thank you for sharing that love with us. I grew up to never settle for less,' capturing the lasting impact Steve and Terri's relationship has had on their global fanbase.
