Maduro Frees Americans and Welcomes Jailed Deportees Amid Swap

(Bloomberg) -- Leer en español Venezuela released 10 Americans as it prepares to receive a group of deportees freed from jail in El Salvador after an unexpected breakthrough in ongoing talks with the US. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the formerly detained Americans were 'on their way to freedom' on Friday and thanked El Salvador's Nayib Bukele for his help to secure their release. Rubio also said Venezuelan political prisoners were released, without adding details. Roughly 250 Venezuelans, deported by the US to El Salvador in March, are set to arrive in Caracas later today, according to people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified to avoid reprisals. Their return had been a long-standing demand of President Nicolás Maduro and his top officials. Bukele's government had publicly stated it had no legal jurisdiction over the deportees, effectively paving the way for Venezuelan and US negotiators to seal the deal. Venezuela's sovereign bonds rose across the curve, with notes maturing in 2034 gaining 0.5 cents on the dollar to trade at around 23 cents, the highest levels in almost two months, according to indicative pricing data compiled by Bloomberg. As part of the negotiations, seven children who had been separated from their parents amid deportations also arrived in Caracas on Friday. Maduro was shown welcoming the kids and their families at the presidential palace on state tv. Their return signals that conversations between Venezuela and the US have continued, even after President Donald Trump's administration banned Chevron Corp. from doing anything more than essential maintenance in the South American nation in late May. That cut off a major contributor to the country's economy, which in recent years supplied nearly a quarter of its oil output and brought a much-needed flow of dollars into its banking system. 'This operation is the result of months of negotiations with a tyrannical regime that had long refused to release one of its most valuable bargaining chips: its hostages,' Bukele said on X. The US has deported about 8,000 Venezuelans through direct repatriation flights this year. It also secured the release of seven American prisoners through swaps negotiated by Trump's special envoy Ric Grenell. Venezuela currently holds about 950 political prisoners, of which more than 80 have foreign nationality, according to Caracas-based human rights group Foro Penal. Shannon Sharpe reaches private settlement in explosive civil r*pe case (Image Via X) A big legal fight ended on July 18, 2025, when Shannon Sharpe and his accuser reached an agreement. No details were shared about the deal. The news was first shared by the accuser's lawyer, Tony Buzbee, and reported by TMZ, Sports Illustrated, and the New York Post. Until now, Shannon Sharpe had denied all claims, calling them a 'shakedown.' Both sides have now agreed on a private resolution. How Shannon Sharpe and Jane Doe reached settlement Shannon Sharpe (57, former NFL star and ESPN analyst) and Jane Doe (the woman who filed the suit) agreed to end their legal dispute. Jane Doe filed a $50 million lawsuit in April 2025 in Nevada, saying Shannon Sharpe sexually assaulted her twice, once in late 2024 and once in early 2025 after they met at a gym in Los Angeles in 2023. The lawsuit also described emotional abuse and threats. On July 18, 2025, lawyer Tony Buzbee posted on Instagram: 'After protracted and respectful negotiations, we have reached a mutually agreed upon resolution. All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily … the lawsuit will thus be dismissed with prejudice'. That means the case is closed and cannot be filed again. Shannon Sharpe has denied wrongdoing. His legal team said the relationship was consensual and that Shannon Sharpe offered $10 million before the case was filed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? 2 months after Sindoor, Pak's Rahim Yar Khan base still shut

2 months after Sindoor, Pak's Rahim Yar Khan base still shut NEW DELHI: Pakistan's Rahim Yar Khan airbase, which was hit by Indian missiles during Operation Sindoor over two months ago, is still not operational, an indication of the extent of damage the strategic military installation suffered. Pakistan airport authority is learnt to have issued another 'Notice to Airmen', aka 'Notam', for its runway, declaring it unusable till Aug 5, sources said. The airbase, located around 230 km south of Bahawalpur, holds a strategic place in Pakistan's southern air defence due to its proximity to India's Rajasthan border. It had suffered massive damage in the precision strikes carried out by India early in May. In May-end, PM Narendra Modi had said at a rally in Rajasthan's Bikaner that the airbase was in 'ICU'. Located within the perimeters of an international airport, the airbase had issued the first Notam on the evening of May 10 declaring the runway non-operational for a week (May 18), and later extended it. Notam was again issued in early June, extending the closure of the airbase until July 4. The latest notice said the runway is unavailable for flight operations due to 'work in progress'. The airbase serves as a forward operating base for the Pakistan Air Force central command and was used heavily for military purposes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? How to get Internet without paying a subscription? Techno Mag Learn More Undo The missiles fired at Rahim Yar Khan airbase caused a massive crater on its runway, a Pakistan district commissioner had told the local press in May. However, the damage, clearly, was much bigger than a crater as the airbase has been non-functional for over two months. Besides this airbase, simultaneous attacks were carried out on Nur Khan airbase at Chaklala in Rawalpindi, the Rafiqui airbase at Shorkot in Punjab, the Murid airbase in Chakwal and the Chunian airbase in Punjab. Pakistan officials had acknowledged damage to transport aircraft at Nur Khan and technical facilities at Chunian. Similarly, the Markaz Subhan Allah terror camp in Bahawalpur, reduced to rubble in airstrikes, has been shut down indefinitely with the Jaish-e-Muhammed brass looking for a new address, preferably in a densely populated area, sources said.
