Son Heung-min will not be part of Tottenham's Post-Ange era, Liverpool won't make second Isak bid
Tottenham captain Son Heung-min has told media that he will leave the club this summer after a decade in north London. The 33-year-old attacker joined the Premier League side from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and went on to play more than 450 times for Spurs. In May he lifted the Europa League trophy but he had a poor season overall by his high standards and struggled with a series of leg injuries. 'Before we start the press conference I wanted to say I have decided to leave the club this summer,' the South Korean told reporters in Seoul, where Tottenham are on a pre-season tour. 'Respectfully the club is helping me with this decision.' Son, who has scored 173 goals for Spurs, did not say where he intends to go next and cut an emotional figure. He has been linked with a move to the MLS in the United States. 'It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. Such amazing memories. It was so hard to make the decision,' Son said, flanked by new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank. 'I need a new environment to push myself. I need a little bit of change -- 10 years is a long time. I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, such a young age. 'I leave this club as a grown man, a very proud man.' Speaking in Korean, Son said that winning a European trophy -- Tottenham's first European crown in 41 years -- played 'a big part' in his thinking. 'Winning a title in Europe felt like I had achieved everything I possibly could,' he said. 'I spent a lot of time reflecting on whether I wanted to experience football in a different environment, and I had those conversations with myself over and over again.' Frank, who joined Spurs from Brentford in June, paid tribute to the South Korean skipper. 'For me, personally, I would have loved to have worked with this fantastic person and player,' said the Dane, who took over from the sacked Ange Postecoglou. 'He is a true Spurs legend in every aspect, one of the greatest players to play in the Premier League.' Spurs will face Newcastle United on Sunday in Seoul, and Son is guaranteed a rapturous reception in front of his home fans. Spurs have had a fairly quiet summer in the transfer market so far, with attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus from West Ham their only major acquisition. Liverpool's opening offer came a week after Isak had admitted he wants to explore his options this summer. But unless Isak's side now start negotiations with the Reds again, it seems they won't be coming back in with a second bid. Making feelings known Liverpool's opening bid came after Newcastle fans made their feelings clear on Isak's situation. A banner was pictured hanging outside the club's training ground, reading: 'Isak is a pure rat.' Of course, this act won't reflect the entirety of the Toon fanbase, however, it shows that his reputation is now damaged to some. There is little sympathy from a part of the fanbase, but one person who does feel for him is teammate Anthony Gordon. Gordon had held talks with Liverpool over a potential move last summer, and it appeared to be close to completion. However, nothing ended up materialising and he went on to sign a new Newcastle contract in October. The England international has now opened up about that move and related it to what Isak is now going through. Gordon said in an interview with the Daily Mail: 'With PSR, I thought I was going to leave at some point in the window. It didn't happen. 'I had to get my head around that to begin with, and then to get my head around it again was hard. I'm a human being.' He added: 'I understand what Alex is going through. I feel for him. 'He will be going through a lot. The club is going through a lot. 'I hope everyone gets what they want in the end.' Chloe Kelly cannot only kick a soccer ball faster than a cheetah can run, she can kick it harder than any male player in the English Premier League. When Kelly scored the winning penalty for England in the UEFA Women's Euro final on Monday, she launched the ball at 110 km/h. Her kick was faster than Newcastle United's Alexander Isak whose strike against Liverpool reached 109.9 km/h and was the quickest recorded in the EPL. It wasn't the first time Kelly had upstaged the men. Two years earlier, in the round of 16 of the 2023 Women's World Cup, Kelly was called upon to take the fifth penalty against Nigeria in Brisbane. Just like the Euro final, if Kelly scored, her team would win the match. In what's become a routine so uniquely choreographed that fans have started mimicking her at home, before taking off, Kelly raises her left knee, waits, and then jumps onto it, propelling her toward the ball. In that game against Nigeria, Kelly's goal reached 110.79 km/h which fans again were quick to point out was faster than any strike made during the previous Premier League season, beating West Ham's Said Benrahma's 107.2km/h shot. For another comparison, cheetahs, the fastest land-based animal, run at 110 km/h. Though Kelly hasn't given much of an explanation for her technique, saying it became her routine when playing for Everton in 2018, her teammate Lucy Bronze described how Kelly's able to generate so much power in a TikTok video: When Kelly lifts her leg, Bronze says she's resting it: 'That's what helps her generate the power, resting the leg.' Kelly isn't the only female athlete to outdo her male counterparts.
