GARY ANDERSON and Peter Wright failed to win a single leg as Scotland suffered a shock opening defeat at the World Cup of Darts.
Scotland have won the tournament twice before, with the same pair beating England in 2019, and John Henderson and Wright got the better of Austria in 2021.

Scotland came into the event seeded alongside England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Their first match was to be no easy task for the former world champions, with Gian Van Veen and Danny Noppert of the Netherlands standing in their way.
The Dutch duo got off to a dream start as they broke into a 2-0 lead over the veteran Scots as Van Veen pinned back to back doubles.
World number 16 Noppert made it 3-0, but the younger Van Veen took out a 130-finish in the following leg as the Dutch marched into a 4-0 lead.
Despite missing three-time World Champion Michael Van Gerwen, the Dutch still look a formidable force.
The current World Youth champion Van Veen made it a fantastic five in the race to eight legs in Frankfurt.
Danny Noppert got back in the action, as Scotland conceded their sixth leg without reply, and they couldn't stop the rot as Noppert goes back-to-back.
Team Netherlands walk off the stage for the break in play 7-0 up on Scotland, as the Dutch demolition duo moved within one leg.
Scotland missed darts to prevent the whitewash, and that allowed Noppert to step up and check out 25 to dump Scotland out of the tournament.
The Dutchmen averaged 100.2, compared to Scotland's measly 79.37.

Anderson and Wright only managed three darts at double in the entire match.
Danny Noppert told Sky Sports after the match: "I didn't expect this before the game" talking about Scotland's form.
Star man Van Veen said to Sky: "Even though they didn't play well, It was still Scotland, it was still Peter Wright and Gary Anderson, even though they didn't play phenomenal it was still the two legends of the game."
The Netherlands move on to the next round, where they take on Czechia.

The Irish defender travelled to Italy to complete the formalities of a six-figure transfer after a bid had been accepted. On X the club posted: "The footballer Corrie Ndaba arrived in Bressanone in the late afternoon, where he began undergoing medical examinations that will be completed on Monday." But Killie boss Stuart Kettlewell had also told reporters post-match there was "nothing" to report on Ndaba. Killie feel the Italians have jumped the gun believing Ndaba's medical and paperwork have still to be fully completed. But the expectation is he will become a Lecce player within 24-hours. The Republic of Ireland youth international will become the latest player to make the move from Scottish football to Italy. He'll follow in the footsteps of the likes of Bologna's Lewis Ferguson, as well as Josh Doig and Lewis Henderson. Scotland national team stars Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour had outstanding seasons for Napoli, helping them to lift the Scudetto. McTominay was even named Serie A's player of the year. Ndaba came through the Ipswich youth ranks but never played a competitive league match for the Tractor Boys. Stuart Kettlewell reveals if he regrets quitting Motherwell in exclusive first interview He instead had several loans spells, including one at Killie's local rivals, Ayr United. According to Sky Italy, Ndaba will sign a three-year deal with the option of extending for a further two. Ndaba made 38 appearances in all competitions for Killie last season as a key member of the squad under Derek McInnes. Team news reaction So that's a very interesting team selection from Brendan Rodgers. Perhaps he really wasn't happy with what he saw on Thursday against Ajax, or he's just decided to rotate things for freshness. Either way, it's almost a completely different XI from the side that lined up against the Dutch giants just 48 hours ago. The likes of Marco Tilio and Johnny Kenny have been linked with moves away and are surprise names in the starting XI tonight. Hayato Inamura also comes in for Kieran Tierney for a start. Kasper Schmeichel looks to simply be being rested, as is captain Callum McGregor.

'The nation is so proud you are through to the final, after some stunning comebacks! We are all cheering you on! W.' Good luck to the @Lionesses tomorrow. The nation is so proud you are through to the final after some stunning comebacks! We are all cheering you on! W — The Prince and Princess of Wales (@KensingtonRoyal) July 26, 2025 England clinched their place in the final with a last-gasp victory over Italy in extra time in Switzerland on Tuesday. England boss Sarina Wiegman conceded Euro 2025 has been the 'craziest' run of tournament matches in her managerial career. On Saturday, she said: 'In this environment you have challenges all the time. Before the World Cup, we had challenges with players who were injured. 'Of course, we prepare a lot and we know the players really well. We think of scenarios, 'Who is the first player to select? Who is the second?'. You're prepared for challenges. All together 🔗 — Lionesses (@Lionesses) July 26, 2025 'But in this tournament, it has been the craziest one with how the games went. That has been different.' Michelle Agyemang, 19, who had one England cap before the tournament, has been a rising star in this competition, and twice became the team's saviour with equalisers in their quarter and semi-final comebacks. She began her footballing career at Brandon Groves AFC in South Ockendon, Essex, and the club are anxiously waiting for the final. Roy Enright, 45, who manages the girls' team, said: ' I think it will be a tight game, very close and it might even go to extra time. 'Everyone is excited for the game.
