He became the first self-released artist to hit No. 1 on the country charts last year
Now, Baldridge is gunning for a second shot at the top spot
Country music's rising star Drew Baldridge currently finds himself on the cusp of perhaps another No. 1 hit with his current Top 15 single 'Tough People.' And certainly, he has Luke Combs to thank.
"Luke recorded 'Tough People' first,' Baldridge remembers in a recent interview with PEOPLE about the impactful song he wrote alongside Combs, Adam Sanders and Jordan Walker that was released last October. "I was looking for a second single and I had always loved 'Tough People,' but I just felt like the song was already his."
Nevertheless, Baldridge decided to call the two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year anyway. "I remember Luke saying, 'Dude, you wrote it, and you should sing it,'" recalls Baldridge. "'It's your song and I'll root you on all the way to No. 1.'"
And that is now looking like the trajectory that 'Tough People' is going to take — and Combs knows it.
"I saw him in Nashville when 'Tough People' had just reached the Top 15 and I thanked him and he was like, 'Shut up, man,' Baldridge, 32, recalls with a laugh of the moment he shared with Combs while out on tour with Cody Johnson. "He said, 'Don't say thank you. This is your moment. This is your song. I'm so happy for you.' And he was so kind. And it's just been another one of those things where you see why when you take a chance on yourself, you never know what might happen."
He draws in a deep breath.
"It's just been the roller coaster of a ride for me for the last 18 months,'"continues Baldridge, who also launched The Tough People Fund earlier this year to "highlight those individuals, families and communities that are experiencing the toughest of times." "Being in town for 13 years and being at the point of giving up … to scoring a No. 1 record."

Indeed, Baldridge's first No. 1 hit "She's Somebody's Daughter" catapulted the Illinois native to new heights not only in the eyes of fans, but perhaps more importantly, within the country music industry as a whole.
"Picking the second single was almost harder than picking the first, because I wanted to make sure I didn't end up a one-hit wonder," Baldridge says quietly. "I love 'She's Somebody's Daughter,' but I didn't want to be the 'She's Somebody's Daughter' guy forever. I wanted to be more than that."
Having become the first self-funded artist to reach No. 1 on country radio with their debut single, Baldridge's newfound fame not only left him in awe of what he had accomplished, but all that he and his wife Katherine had accomplished together.
"A lot of people don't realize how many sacrifices she had to make and how big of the story that she was," says Baldridge of his wife of almost four years, with whom he shares a 2-year-old son, Lyric Lee. "I was running a label and booking my shows and doing this all alone. And she was almost like a single parent sometimes because I was gone so much. She was drained. But she stayed with me through all of that and supported me. It takes a special partner in your life to do the life that we have."

It's also taken the love of Baldridge's fans to get him to where he stands today — especially the fans who stuck by him long before he found himself as a constant on the country music charts.
"Awhile back, I went around the country and played all of these people's backyards and it was those people that kept me going," Baldridge remembers. "It wasn't Nashville, and it wasn't radio in that moment. It was the actual people I was making music for. That's when everything changed. I realized that I was making music for real hearts and souls."
And it's those stories that Baldridge says he hopes to continue to tell.
"We're all struggling,' concludes Baldridge, who will head out on the road this summer with fellow country music hitmaker Bailey Zimmerman on his New to Country tour. "But let's put a light on these tough times that we're going through. We're all tough people. We all have a scar. We all have a story, and I think that's what I want my music to say."

Ana De Armas Likes Instagram Post About Nicole Kidman

Ana De Armas has people talking after she was seen liking a shady Instagram post about Nicole Kidman. This week, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Ana had liked an Instagram post questioning whether Nicole got plastic surgery. The post, made in February on the Instagram account @celebmess, included what the account holder says is a 1996 photo of Nicole alongside a more recent picture of her. Also attached were screenshots from a 2007 interview where Nicole was asked about persistent stories surrounding her appearance. The piece noted that Nicole had sparked "persistent buzz over whether [she] is overly Botoxed" following her appearance at the 2006 Oscars. In the profile, Nicole denied getting any work done. "To be honest, I am completely natural," she said. "I have nothing in my face or anything. I wear sunscreen, and I don't smoke." She added, "I take care of myself. And I'm very proud to say that." Nicole's response was included in the Instagram post — right next to a doubtful meme that said, "Sure, Jan." "When you keep it real," read the caption of the post, which also hashtagged Nicole's name and included the song "Denying" by the Spice Girls. You can see Ana's Instagram account, here, among the likes. It's still there, as of publication. Needless to say, people thought it was super shady. One Reddit user wrote, "what a sick burn 🙄." Another said, "Ugh. Shaming people like this is so weird." "De Armas is wow, so horrid for this petty crap," a third fan shared, as someone else said it gave "mean girl vibes." "I see some people still haven't graduated from that high school mentality. How embarrassing at her big age of 37," a fifth user complained. Others pointed out that the pictures of Nicole also appeared to be heavily edited. "They had to edit Nicole Kidman to even give the illusion she could have aged badly," one user said, as another stated, "Whatever, Nicole always has been and still is so beautiful to me." Ana has yet to address the situation, but it comes as she and Tom Cruise continue to face dating rumors following multiple appearances together since February. In a May interview on Good Morning America, Ana addressed their relationship and insisted it was purely a "working" one. "It's so much fun," she said. A source also told People that she and Tom are "just friends." Nicole was married to Tom from 1990 to 2001 and shares two children with him: Isabella, 32, and Connor Cruise, 30. BuzzFeed has contacted reps for Ana for comment — we'll let you know if we hear back.

Ana de Armas Caught Liking Shady Post About Nicole Kidman

Today in celebrities being messy, Ana de Armas was caught liking an Instagram post speculating about Nicole Kidman's facial work. Which is pretty brow-raising considering Ana's spending a ton of time with Nicole's ex Tom Cruise—to the point where they're fielding dating rumors. The post in question is from February 6, comes from the account @celebmess, and implies that Nicole's claims that she's never used Botox are a lie (they even employed the classic "Sure, Jan" meme). Meanwhile, Ana's like is still on the post as of reporting this. As for what's going on with Tom and Ana, they're starring together in an upcoming thriller. And while it's definitely possible that they're just friendly coworkers, they have been on multiple vacations together recently—prompting speculation that there's something more going on. That said, a source recently told People that Ana is single, and that "Tom is crazy hardworking and she's very excited to work with him. She calls it an opportunity of a lifetime. Tom is an incredible mentor to Ana. She has nothing but amazing things to say about him." Meanwhile, another insider told the Daily Mail that "Tom has been showering Ana with gifts ever since they met, it's his thing, he is thoughtful. First it started with her favorite flowers then books he thought she would want to read because she's an avid reader. The more they got to know each other, the bigger the gifts became. There has been jewelry like gold bracelets and designer clothing, things like that, things every girl would love. Probably the biggest gift he has given her is being able to go anywhere in the world at a moment's notice, not many people can do that. She loves to travel."

File Photo by Jim Ruymen/UPI | License Photo July 28 (UPI) -- Selling Sunset television personality Chrishell Stause married her partner, Australian music artist G Flip, for the second time Saturday. The couple originally took to Las Vegas to tie the knot in 2023, and then celebrated their love again with a vow renewal the following year. Saturday's ceremony took place in a Los Angeles castle tower turret. Stause wore a corseted white gown with puffy, off-the-shoulder sleeves, while G-flip dressed as a knight in a red ensemble with black boots and a sword. An invitation for the event encouraged attendees to wear "medieval, renaissance, regal and festive attire." "Lots of gay merriment to happen later today!" Stause captioned the invitation, shared to her Instagram stories. Stause also re-posted a photo from the wedding on Instagram Stories. Stause, 44, and G Flip, 31, had previously promised to celebrate their love every year. "We promised we're going to just do it every year, whether it's another Vegas situation or somewhere else," Stause told People. "But just every year, something around the same time, spontaneous, fun -- get everybody together and every single year, just celebrate." The pair began dating in 2022. Stause and Justin Hartley (This is Us) had been married previously.
